Wdg 3A better than wag 9 but still has more tractive effort than wdg3A it doesn't mean it's bad, wdg3a is heavier and stable on tracks so it can pull more heavy freight train but wag9 can get wheel slip due to it can't pull that heavy bcn coaches freight train. I know an electric engine is more environmentally friendly but the plant that generates electricity uses coal that makes more smoke but in that time diesel engines do less smoke than coal but now coal power plants are getting replaced by solar Power plant

Railway board and ministry is group of ch*tiyas, if I was rly min I would have asked full potential utilisation of diesels, I would have concentrated on freight operations, passenger d locos to pull cargo and light freight loads. Main reason for rly to go electric is economical not environmental, one of my my friend's relative is retired board member, when I said my thought about this, he said I am 💯 right, I understood how foolish is rly org higher power. Train 18's creator Shri sudhanshu mani sir also said in one session that these alcos were the most reliable loco ever irly had

​@@aadityavasan.s6546 I do agree that diesel locos could've been utilized in a better way, however I don't agree with your statement - "reason for rly to go electric is economical and not environmental". Before you jump to any conclusion, ask for feedback on these locomotives from those countries to which we have exported. The first complaint you will hear is that it creates a LOT OF POLLUTION, after that the FUEL EFFICIENCY IS BAD and it REQUIRES A LOT OF MAINTENANCE. No one criticizes their own creation, so always seek feedback from others.

@@RailCaptures-byGKP I respect your comment, but what the countries say can't be considered completely true, the engineers there would give a answer to their political body, that political body would convey it to other bodies and to media, and the media and whoever conveys us the message will tell probably what we want to hear such that we get convinced for their goal

If you haul the same load by truck, it would pollute multiple times more, multiple times more cost and other operations. A single Diesel loco hardly smokes as much as 8-9 trucks and pulls nearly 200-300 truck's load, the videos where you see alcos erupt smoke, it's less than cumulative emissions of 100 trucks or buses. On road trucks and buses are considered least polluting. And fuel consumption per ton per km is also much much much less than trucks. Electrics are amazing, but atleast the diesels could have been used wisely in a optimum way; and we need diesels for emergencies; rlys is very crucial for the nation. A small disruption in the service creates huge wave in the economy. Few years ago when Mumbai railway was switching to complete Alternating current traction, diesel locos were the one which kept Mumbai alive, in motor man strikes of Mumbai, again diesels acted as cpr for a life of the nation.

@@RailCaptures-byGKP you scrap a diesel loco hardly you get 5-7cr, it's less because it's auctioned based on tonnage×steel price at that moment. If we utilise them for freight service, we would get billions and if we remove the expenses yet we would get good profit, rather than investing 15cr to build it and you hardly get half it's investment through scrap market. Simply because foolish bullshit media talks shit, minister pressurizes the officers, officers don't have brains to play strategically to run rlys efficiently. If rly officer's salary would be just through shares of rlys they would make rlys out perform and the transportation environment would have been very competitive, India would be somewhere else. Providing secure environment to these creamy class officers is a huge mistake; curse to the nation

It is multiverse of things like shift of generation etc. When EMD monster with 4500 HP and better traction effort at lower cost and better performance gradients and hill side tracks arrived in 1999, it was revolution of sorts in IR. The murmuring EMD engine sounds with capable of running upto 130 KM and 160 KM passenger version easily outsmarted 50+ year old Rebuilt Alcos. At one point of time there were around 2000 of them parading their natural beauty in Indian railways while efficiently serving with profits like attractive actress doing sham and glam role in movies. Now I do not believe that 600 of beau alcos are in live action and I am sure that it will be around hardly 200 to 300 of them doing shunting and maintenance work. For any RF Alco is like voice of Shreya Ghoshal mixed with always young actress beau and Alcos are always young even in dirty or poor maintenance. they are tribute to Railways and we love alcos for ever.

@@AmberRoaster I heard that this is because Indian Railways is suffering a crippling shortage of passenger electric locomotives (WAP-7) while there were excess of WAG-9 locos. I think during the lockdowns of COVID, passenger traffic fell flat, but freight traffic surged ahead. So to compensate for that, BLW and CLW prioritized the production of WAG-9 locos, but when passenger traffic returned, the scrappage of old locos, combined with the surge in passenger train traffic meant that the loco production was caught short. So railways plays this game of "which train is more prioritized" when allocating the limited passenger grade WAP-7 locos to the train services, giving WAG-9 to the lower priority trains and special trains.

I think best move India made was to build these alco designed locomotives in India. Pakistan didn't do it, thus paid a heavy price for not doing mass production locally of similar locomotives.

1. Diesel locomotives have to convert mechanical energy produced in the diesel engine to electrical energy using alternator. Then again it has to be converted to mechanical energy using dc traction motors. The conversion happens two times. So you can imagine the energy losses happening during these conversions. 2. Diesel consumption depletes our forex reserves. 3. Diesel engines causes air pollution and noise pollution. 4. Diesel engines require a lot of money for maintenance, B checks, C checks, D checks and funally the E check or overhauling. For these checkes lubricant oil, oil filters, fuel filters, gaskets, air filters, radiator coolant etc have to be replaced. The frequency of these checks are based on the running hours of the engine. But in case of electric engines like the WAG 9, 1. There is no air pollution and sound pollution 2. There is no energy conversion but only the format of the electrical energy is converted. 3. There is are less moving parts and hence less wear and tear. 4. They use IGBT based converters that drive induction motors. Induction motors do not have commutators like dc motors, so less wear and tear. Electric locos are far better than diesel locos. The future is electric.

EMD, GE Locos Alco se jyada efficient hain, Lekin Alco ka chugging ka koi mukabla nahi ho shakta, sath me uski compact design bhi dekhne layak thi.
