As an NSW Australia citizen and a great admirer of Indian railways and their Locomotives it is with sadness we ask why we never did the same here, Let's not get into ceasing Passenger carriage manufacturing The WDM3D was developed by Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW), a Government Workshop on an Alco Body a Loco that is magic to watch at 130 Kmph Congratulations to India let's hope they keep a few WDM3D for nostalgic tours and to be able to keep hearing the sound that only a two-stroke Alco can make Many thanks to India for giving us the pleasure of watching a video of this great homer grown achievement

Nice video 🎉& explaination as well. But the real revolution in dieseal engine in India appeared when EMD came in India. The buzzing sound & turbo-charged 2 stroke WDP engine is undoutedly a game changer!!! Hands down!!! Some original UBL WDG are still working & fly-by of it makes us to think an aeroplane is coming!!!!

WDM3D is not legend . He is Everest who scaled everything for railways for many years till date because he is capable of pulling Freight version at MPS of 110 and passenger version at 160 KM MPS downgraded to 130 as at that time they have no 160 or 130 km tracks . Still a alco holic chugger, he is always on assault from KR lines or Kasara or Tull ghats or shindawne ghats or heavy traffic Farukkhabad or Firozabad Lucknow Gorakhpur Patna line or Howrah or NE interior lines. He has no inertia and least pulling problem least wheel slip issues . 3Ds of GOC , ED and KJM sheds are maintained like Kiara Advani till date. Their best times were when Karnataka express was pulled from Manmad to Bangalore by twins. Itarsi shed and Ludhiana and Lucknow sheds have decorated them in lovely livery like actress make up. Thanks sir

@@Kanishk1515 Even today KJM alco doing duties at Nidvanta and KSR bangaluru outers as well as SMVT are being maintained tiktok. GOC green alco is doing some main duty also at TPJ, Ramanathapuram , villpuram but reduced to 5 or 10 alcos only while ERS is employing some 5 to 10 but primary and POH are only at GOC. The Ratlam and BKGT sheds stopped maintenance of alco forever while still Howrah and Malda are running 3 to 5 alcos primarily for maintenance and some run to place like Bamanghat near bangala border etc. Pune is having highest number of alcos in shunting duties and mostly they are derated in 2023 and undertaking Kurla and famous Kalyan Shakti alcos also . Ludhiana and TKD are having still alcos painted in fancy liveries including WDP3A pushpak 2 Nos. Thanks

I think the major reason why these locos were slowly wound down in favor of EMDs was the fact that being a mixed classification locomotive, these locos were not perfect for either passenger use (where the WDP-4/4B/4D would crush it in raw acceleration and speed), and neither were they perfect for goods use (wherein the monstrous TE of the WDG-4/4D would start up and accelerate heavier rakes to balancing speed). If divisions saw a wide variety of traffic pass through it, such mixed-use locos might have made sense, but for passenger traffic dominant or goods traffic dominant divisions, the specialized roles of EMDs made more sense for the zones to pick and choose. This is the reason why Hubli locoshed became a major focus for EMD's WDG-4 series of locos, because the zone sees heavy goods traffic in terms of iron ore and container transport. In a similar way, Krishnarajapuram locoshed took up a majority of EMD's WDP-4 series of locos because of the large number of passenger trains that originated in the region... However, an excellent detail about the loco class in general, love your videos, keep them coming brother...
