WDW Capra Chassis Servo Mount/Panhard Kit Install How To

This is a How To install video for the West Desert Wheeler Axial Capra chassis mounted servo and panhard kit allowing a straight axle 3link suspension on the Axial Capra chassis and components. Everything needed to complete this is an Axial Capra in all 1/10 scale variants from RTR, kit version and 4WS in addition to the Axial SCX10-3 straight axle conversion part# AXI238000 and my servo mount kit.

When I first saw this I knew I had to have one, so I put in an order. Install was simple enough, especially if you are familiar with 3 link setup already. Performance is great, geometry is good, and I don’t think there will be any breakage issues unless launching off cliffs😉 Good job WDW, great to see new things being designed and produced, keep it up 😎

This conversion more for compitition than just out playing? I love the portal axils added ground clearance . Will a flat center skid plate need to have the interear removed to give room for motor and trans to move up? What all is needed to use the flat center skid plate?

I sold my Capra this year and bought a gladiator. The stockish Capra never really grew on me except for that it has a cage and I really love the axles. This straight axle conversion that narrows it down changes the whole look in a good way. It’s more like a 1.9 wraith style vehicle/buggy which I really like. I may just pick up a 4ws Capra and a scx10.2 to make it happen. I’ll finally have some capra axles for a new build as well. Thanks dude! Love your channel.

What you doing for gearing. Capra trans was geared pretty high for portals. With the straight axles it would be way high

It should there will just be small adjustments you might need to make like panhard length or pinion angle

As for the conversion, am I limited now in available shock positions for the front end and does that not raise my front end slightly?

I just ordered a 4WD Capra... I'm wondering why switch to straight axles? I see there are metal axles available; seems like those might be a better choice. For the 4WS model, doesn't that require two front axles?

You can steal the Capra axles for other things. Also they are surprisingly capable this way

My steering link from the servo to knuckle is like 7 or 8mm to long. Am I missing something?

The servo horn does not sit perfectly vertical. It will sit offset but it will still get full range of motion

I saw your 3 link Capra at proline by the fire. I wanted to ask you what size pinion and spur are you running or would recommend. I’m trying to duplicate this same Capra build. I have a fusion pro 2300kv and 3 gear transmission as well as your Servo mount kit.

I believe I’m using a 13t pinion with standard 56 spur. Same setup as a 10.2 with straight axles my car has a 2800kv axe so it’s pretty zippy

Just to ask…putting the front shocks in the rear most hole to lay it down causes binding or clearance issues?

No, I used that for mounting the rear of the bracket so there is a screw in the rear mount

In a word. Why? Low CG but loose clearance. Takes the scale look away.

Is it 100% necessary to do this conversion? I just bought a 4WS Capra and really cant see myself spending another $170 on the straight axle kit and another $40 for your kit.

I’m not saying this is better than a 4 wheel steer Capra axle setup. This is for people who want to have the rig still function after taking the axles off the car and using them somewhere else. Straight axle kits commonly go on sale for 99$
