I got the shit smacked out of me for being a black Brazilian in Australia. The white kids were so racist. They physically abused and verbally abused me bad. I made it out. Music helped me bad.

I don't know which school you went to, or what area you're from, but this kind of stuff never happens as far as I'm concerned, in Australia. Those white kids are absolute dicks but I'm glad you made it out.

@Myke C-Town You don't know how reliable this is. In junior high school and high school I had all of the same experience. Being a black kid into hardcore, metal, books, and skating wasn't accepted. Being an articulate black man made me a target from all sides. Glad to see I wasn't the only one going through it

God damn I love the fact that you made this video for all those kids in high school. I haven't had much experience with bullying, but I still find this video empowering and highly motivational to just be yourself, I love your content and keep at it

I know you're probably never going to see this, but did you have ANY friends? At my school, it's seems like the worst bullying goes on within friend groups, not jocks picking on nerds for example (at my school). Nerds tend to be friends with the nerds, and the popular ones tend to be friends with the popular ones. I'm really shit at explaining things but let me elaborate. I would describe myself as someone who used to get bullied. For K-8th grade, I got very lucky in that I went to a school with no bullies. Everyone got along well and, as a scrawny white kid I got to be one of the popular kids in a school of mostly non-whites. However, instead of going to my home high school, I got accepted into a sports program at an out of area that my dad worked at. The only person I knew was my one friend who got in as well, and I was very extroverted so I found it very hard to talk to people that I didn't know. I quickly discovered that I was also one of the least athletic ones in the program. I was a great distance runner, but most workouts were strength based, which was not at all my forte. The kids in the athlete program started to cling to each other in the school. To this day, we still pretty much exclusively hang out with each other. Being the weak socially awkward kid that I was, I was generally there with them, but was excluded from anything outside of school. At first it was due to the fact that people didn't know me, but eventually I became the butt of many jokes. They came from people who I was hanging out with as well, in fact almost exclusively. Growing up where I did, I had many black friends, but also many brown, Asian, Hispanic friends as well. The area was really black though, and I got into hip hop, freestyling, basketball, etc. At my new school, black people only hang out with each other, it is not because we are racist or anything like that, if anything it's the other way around. Regardless, I was stuck in this weird middle ground where I didn't fit in with either side. Still, for 2 years straight, I sat at lunch with the same group of friends. Not all of them were dicks, in fact only two of them were. The other guys just followed suit and laughed at me, probably in fear of becoming the next "me" if they didn't. It got so bad that in my third year there, I stopped hanging out with them sometimes and would chill downstairs in the game room. There was this one kid in the group who really never laughed at me or contributed to the bullying. We never really talked but I would always notice he would try to switch the conversation whenever I was getting made fun of, or even make fun of the guys bullying me. Another thing for context is that he is probably the most popular kid in my area, not by an absurd margin but everybody knew him. At the start of third year, he ended up getting switched into two of my classes. We were the only ones who knew each other so we naturally sat next to each other. As the semseter progressed, we became really good friends. Slowly, the bullying faded out, mostly to do with the fact that I was no longer the loser of the group. The reason why I've written this absurdly long comment is to say that it seems as though bullying, at least nowadays, is not to do with the social hierarchy of the school. My group of friends is very popular, and we do not bully nerds or geeks or whatever. Even in those groups, I see kids getting bullied by their own friends. Another thing is that most kids who contributre to bullying would never mistreat someone on their own, they just give into peer pressure. I'm doing great right now, in fact I feel as though I've almost climbed my way to the near top. This comment serves, little purpose, I just had to get it off my chest I guess. Thanks to anyone who did read it though.

How I dealt with bullies is being weird as fuck, like to the point where they don't want to go anywhere near me. What you said you about finding music that relates to you was spot on, because the band Whitehouse really stuck with me during hard times.
@AG-uj1cp
@AG-uj1cp 10 жыл бұрын
I only really dealt with bullying on a verbal level, aside from from some typical male dominance bullshit when I was younger (I was the shortest kid in my grade up until freshman year of high school), so I can only relate to some degree because you clearly dealt with much worse. For me, I was constantly put down because I was also pretty eccentric and kind of a spaz until like you, realized I had the power of wit. I tell people to this day, if you can effectively troll someone who targets you, they will not know what to do and will leave you alone because they don't want to look stupid. I've been challenged to fights and been told I was going to get my ass kicked for basically no reason at times. I found that if I just acted as creepy as possible and just patronize them saying shit like "oooh shit let me cop a feel of them sexy ass muscles, you alpha male you." Yeah, freaks them the hell out. People left me alone after that.

I was a extremely weird kid when I was young and I should have been the the perfect target to be bullied, but the only reason I wasn't bullied was because I grew up with 2 guys that became part of the "cool jocks" later on, they were my best friends (still are). The thing that happened was that I became a bullie, I was a bullie all through middle school. I feel shit about it today, and I still sometimes see the guy I bullied for years and all I want to do Is go up to the guy and apologize. The thing that stops me I think is that I'm a coward and I feel like it's too late to apologize for something that fucked up, I feel ashamed of myself for it every time I think about It. Should have known better.
@mykectown
@mykectown 10 жыл бұрын
Ken Ojalammi Trust me. It's never too late to apologize to that kid. He may be in a better place now, but you never know how it'll make him feel to know that the person who put him through hell is now feeling remorse for it. Seriously, dude, I say do it. You'll make him feel better and you'll take a huge load off yourself. What could it possibly hurt?

Amazing story. I would not have imagined you being bullied, somehow. As a rather "out" gay man, one would imagine I would have been bullied a lot, but it wasn't the case. Perhaps the punk/new wave trend helped a lot, and I knew all the good music and the cool stuff (whatever that was), so I guess it was enough to be respected. Only once someone tagged the word "fagget" on my back, but that made me laugh so I kept it tagged on a few days. I was also in a mixed cultural school and had friends of all sorts of origins. I'd say the early hip hop days in fact didn't feel "ghetto" at all. The electro scene was cross-cultural with new wave, and there was a lot of electro influence in early hip hop. When the 1990's came, it became more obvious that "hip hop is the music of the black ghettos", with posses of guys talking about "their" ghettos, and it really lost me. I wasn't aware how much it was segregated in USA, not only blacks from whites, but east vs west, etc.. I didn't understand hip hop after Fu-Schnikens. I thought Wu-Tang sounded great but that there was no way in hell those guys would ever talk to me. The 1980's were so much more open-minded. Are we getting back yet?
@mykectown
@mykectown 10 жыл бұрын
Neurozumim I wish I could say we were getting back...but it doesn't seem like it. Hip hop is just as closed minded as it ever was. We have a few more acts here and there promoting oddness and individuality, but it's not enough to really solve the problem. But it's something! Maybe one day, man. We can all hope.

Great vid man, i thought i had it bad when i was in highschool a year or two ago, however its really inspiring/eye opening to hear what you went through and came out. But its funny, I guess in conyers you guys called it shoot the five, but we call it shoot da 1 over here in fayette/clayton lol. Lastly, I know you may be tired of it, but could you do like one in depth video on going vegan? Like some food staples that you should always have, recipes, restaurants, were to buy clothing/shoes/belts/dress clothes/etc, and how to avoid animal products in general. Thanks again, and awesome vid!

"You're not being picked on because something is wrong with you, you're being picked on because something is wrong with them." This is the core of the problem and a point people need to be aware of. There's so many experiences and thoughts I want to share on this, but the best thing I can say is that it's pretty awesome how shitty the lives of every person who bullied me in middle school are right now. RayasNegroOvejas houstonfob2FOREVER Haha! Yeah, the short end of the stick is right! And I agree. High school is supposed to be some of the best years of your life. You made most of your friends then, you really came into who you were then and you had no real worries or concerns (supposedly). And it does suck that, for some of us, we have very little nice memories of it. A lot of the people I know hated high school, too, but that's because they were nerds/losers like me. I have spoken with others who absolutely loved high school. But that's because they were super popular for sports or just being good looking.

Don't worry man lmfaooooo…... You would have been like 10 years old! But if I were like 10 years younger, this would turn into some Springer type debauchery real fuckin fast.

honestly i gotta say from experience, "be yourself" is terrible advice, much worse than "ignore them". if people make fun of the way you act or way you dress then change that if you truly want them to stop. i'd say the best advice is just be like everyone else, do not take pride in your uniqueness, do your best to blend in.

Myke C-Town myke pls.. not even trolling brah, like i said this is from personal experience. i used to be a nerdy kid and a lot of people were annoyed by me and picked on me all the time; i used to hate myself. then i just decided to act more 'normal' and just generally nice to everyone and everyone was nice back to me. (granted i was the class clown and made the 'bullies' laugh all the time). now, i realise this does not work for everyone cause there are some real fucking terrible people out there, but idk if 'just be yourself' ever stopped bullying :/ numsayin??!

Mohamed Eltahir OK, I apologize. You're not a troll. But, I just couldn't imagine anyone telling someone who is already being himself to stop being himself and act "normal" in order to prevent bullying. No offense, but that's about as ridiculous as telling a woman to wear a hoodie all year round to prevent being raped. Or tell a black man to act "more white" to prevent racial profiling. Dude, come on. No one said being yourself will stop bullying. I said that nothing is wrong with being yourself and if people are picking on you because of that then that's their problem. You'll notice I also said to talk to someone (including teachers and counselors). Sorry, but I just think your advice is really backwards to how we should be raising and rearing kids.

Bullies have glass jaws. So, fight them and land those right crosses and left hooks on their asses. An ass whooping always worked when I had to use it. Unleash the power that's within in the palm! Or what you could do is kick them in the knee, like stomp through it. Just gotta be quick and lethal with your moves. You don't wanna look back on your life and tell anyone you were bullied. Stand up for yourself. If you're in school, have your parents enroll you into a jiu jitsu class or take some boxing. Get involved into wrestling at the school. Strengthen your body, and with that, it strengthens your mind. Gotta be smart and determined at that age. Be you. But be you and be relentless with being you.

ArmyGuns89 I'm sorry, but I don't think that's the key. I do agree with taking self defense classes, but only so you can defend yourself. You're trying to tell someone to stand up against two other dudes who could be older and bigger than them? And beat them up? Come on. bro. This isn't Karate Kid. These methods don't always have the best outcomes. I know because it didn't work for me. You take one out and he comes back with 6 of his friends out for blood. It's not wise to tell kids to do this unless you know the entire story of their situation. Physically fighting back could result in something much worse than simply being called names. Guys always think it's as easy as "someone's fucking with you, fight them." When you're a small kid, that's not always feasible!

ArmyGuns89 And you telling someone they don't want to look back on their life and say they were bullied doesn't help the situation at all. You're shaming them for something that many of them have no control over. I think people really need to be careful with that. It's not the bullied kids fault for being bullied. How about "you don't wanna look back on your life and tell anyone that you bullied someone." Being picked on is nothing to be ashamed of. Being an asshole is.

I've been in situations where I've had to fight five people at once. And I won. The only way you'll lose is if you're not smart enough to outmaneuver your opponents. Its rare where all five will try to attack you at once. Unless you're on the ground in the fetal position. A bullied kid has to have more focus, smarts and control in these situations. And its doubtful once you've handled five at once, that anyone will try to attack or bully you again. At least, from my experience, everyone left me alone when they knew I could fight. Almost every fight I've been in, I've been outnumbered, but I always pulled through with the victory. I just had a lot of anger and rage built up, but I didn't use any of it unless someone pushed me and made me snap. The only way to stop bullying in this country, is to teach everyone how to fight. We have PE classes, we should have self defense coarses too.
