I remember hearing Valentino Rossi's old Crew Chief, Jerry Burgess saying to find the optimum geometry setting on a MotoGP bike; 'you don't stop adjusting the geometry once it gets good, you keep adjusting past that point until it starts to get worse, then you'll know where the true sweet spot is'. MTB manufacturers seem to be taking a cautious approach, I don't understand why they don't make an adjustable prototype and keep pushing the geometry until it doesn't work then back it off to sweet spot. MTB head angles are nowhere near a motocross or enduro motorcycle.

I also seem to remember Rossi running his fork angle about .5 degree steeper than Edwards did. I also seem to remember Edwards always having to test new ideas during the weekend before settling on his race setup in the practice session before the race.

What is not to understand? Improving mechanical parts in order to sell a new bike, is difficult and expensive. Changing the head tune angle of the frame by 0,5* and making the frame longer is cheap and easy, and it results in a bigger and more noticeable gain.

@conanthanoz19

100% this. Talking to these manufacturers is entertaining, but ultimately The Grim Donut asks a question that manufacturers haven't asked. Professional Snowboarders usually ride much shorter more nimble boards as well - but casual riders often will ride a VERY long board and it might not be good at doing tricks but the stability and carving is soooo much better at high speed. Long and slack definitely is the recipe for fast and steep...in multiple sports. Practically speaking - bike rentals at a mountain with a lift should be more like Grim Donut. This geometry would be far more stable at speed and keep new riders safer. Being nimble in slow technical things isn't a safety concern and it's barely a speed concern. Imagine how many riders would find themselves unable to do an endo crash over the bars due to the front wheel being so far out in front!
