I'm a Portland native and so is Matt Groening. He named Simpson characters after some of the local streets and landmarks. There is a Burnside street, Flanders street, Couch street (pronounced cooch), Kearney street and the Lovejoy fountain. No eternal tire fire, thankfully, but there were neverending sawdust fires from the wood mills there. And a defunct Trojan nuclear plant. Who knew this show would still be around 32 years later and you would be playing a pinball game that we can all identify with.

Apu wasn't banned. He was just a minor character who was used less and less over the years. Matt eventually just dropped him. Data East was actually the first company to have a dot matrix display in a pinball. Babcock was the manufacturer of the displays at the time and I believe it was the first dot-matrix display they made in that form factor- they previously made smaller, higher resolution displays which were used in ATM machines. It's entirely possible that they just weren't ready for production.

Another great series. Playfield art reminds me a little of Python Anghelo just so full of small details. Thanks again for taking the time!
@LyonsArcade3 жыл бұрын
I was just thinking about what you said, I think Python may have invented that style because I can't think of a playfield that's really crowded with art before his stuff.... in the 70's they didn't really even have the technology to screen them like that I don't believe... so maybe that all started with "Comet" ? Would be interesting to see if there's a game before 85 that has that style to it. Some of the backglasses were kind of like that earlier, like Bally's Mad World for instance... www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=1504&picno=7652

Hilarious that there's an audio file of Bart saying "cowabunga", which is actually a catchphrase of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He didn't actually say that in the show, but people have the perception he did because of bootleg Bart Simpson T-shirts that had the phrase on them.

The name of Bart's best friend is Millhouse. The saxophonist, Lisa's idol, is "Bleeding Gums" Murphy. If I remember correctly, he acquired the name because he never went to the dentist and had a severe case of gingivitis. The name of the Simpsons' dog is Santa's Little Helper. In, what I think is the first Christmas episode. Homer lost all of the money at the dog track and one of the dog trainers ran him off. Homer and Bart rescued the dog and named him Santa's Little Helper as a way to make up for losing all of the money. As for their cat, the first cat was named Snowball. Well, it died, I don't remember how, but they got a new one and named it Snowball 2.

That 'crap-path' the ball takes through the flippers is where the money and drink winners back home knew just the right amount of 'hip-bump' to change its course.
