Gee, when I dig 15s with my Nox, they're almost always bottle caps. My mid-low tones tend to be foil. Jim, you must be the luckiest guy in the world!

I like being lucky but there is a big difference after a huge swell pushed items from deep onto the shore, bottle caps & foil do not survive in the ocean for long. Thank you 🤙

I like the southern swell storms, the effect last longer. those north swell storms, you need to hit it during the storm or just after. another 12 hours could be too late. San Clemente was awesome yesterday but today not as good. Thank you 🤙

I do the same thing. I hunt for gold only and don't dig silver coins. I also dig only gold number on the Nox in the dirt. I will give you a tip for the Nox if you're digging in the dirt. I go where the trash is and do a layer hunt. Want to know what a layer hunt is? Set your sensitivity to 3 yes three on the Nox. Now you're ready to do a layer hunt in the dirt. If you set it at 18 you pick up every bit of trash up. So set it at three it will get a gold ring at 5" I know I got 45 years of metal detecting on most people and a big pile of gold rings. So, try it. and gold will show up every time. Good Luck to you and all your subscribers.

Interesting, I do not dig in dirt much anymore but I too reduce the sensitivity and dig out areas around the fire pits on the beaches, kind of like layering but I am actually digging out layers. Sadly our beaches are so full of black sand gold at 6" down could sound like iron, but after 38 years detecting these beaches I have learned a lot about how to detect them successfully. We old timers had to learn by experimenting, so thank you for sharing your technique. FYI - I dig high tones "quarters" all day because I really do need laundry money. Thank You 👍

I'm new to metal detecting,what do high and low tones mean? Should I discriminate certain tones in order to find only gold?

High tone are usually high conductive metals while low tones are low conductive metals but I find that size a shape play a huge role in tone range. Gold can range depending on size and shape, I have found big gold the was a high tone. Newbies got to dig, I would dig everything until you start figuring out what typical trash sound like then adjust that is the best way to really learn. I run all metal all the time except in trashy areas then I toggle all metal / discriminate modes. Thank You 👍
