To anyone considering therapy (who has the means to do it) I want to say go for it. My tips as someone studying mental health and going to therapy: 1. Each psychologist has different areas of expertise. Find one that has experience in areas you're struggling with. 2. At the end of first meeting, often called the "first interview", ask them if the issues you bought up are something they're interested in working with. A good fit psychologist will list the reason why they're suitable (training in that area). 3. It's okay to cry. It's okay to laugh. It's okay to come into therapy and not know what to talk about. Again, a good psychologist will help you walk that path 4. Self care after every appointment. Like having a bath? Do it. Like walking aimlessly in dog parks? Go to one. Look after yourself, you're not alone, you're worthy.

therapy is inaccessible to most, so i just want to leave this here; cycles of abuse can end without a licensed therapist, and trauma work can be done without a therapist too. in my case (an abbreviation soup mostly caused by trauma) my therapist is like an assistant, the trauma work is physical. theres ways to do it on your own, and my therapist was helpful for my discovery of trauma work - but not instrumental. i was. the body is the answer, not the problem.
@gabrielanuncio23454 жыл бұрын
Yes, but, there’s people that wouldn’t figure that out by themselves. Also, therapy can’t be done by someone who isn’t licensed, that’s something you learn during the study of Psychology, a major is required to you to be able to do therapy. But yes, you can be an assistant for people who’s problems aren’t that “huge”.

Omg I put 3 of my friends onto my psychologist lmao this is comforting She said it would be a conflict of interest to see a close family member or romantic partner though. Maybe it depends on the type of therapy or therapist themselves and how they compartmentalise. Also it's definitely a privilege to see a therapist. One of my friends had to stop seeing our psychologist as she couldn't afford it anymore. I wish everyone had access to sort out their shit. I've been seeing my psychologist for 3 years now and I've still got stuff to unpack. All my love to anyone who doesn't have access to therapy. You deserve to have your needs met and understand yourself and your surroundings. I hope you can find some resources online. I've managed to find a lot over the years before finally allowing myself to try therapy again (had some bad experiences with professionals in my childhood).

I got my best friend and my ex-girlfriend (they live together as roomies) to see my therapist. It’s actually a huge credit to my therapist being so professional and it’s been such a huge benefit to my bestie and ex. It’s amazing how my therapist can keep things separate and she doesn’t mention the others unless I bring it up, and if she does, it’s always objective. Also, we all went to her for different reasons and we all still see her. It’s done wonders for us individually and has not affected our relationship with each other. I have such a strong bond with my ex and we can hang out without any resentment towards each other. Having the same therapist as someone who is close to you is not weird at all, as long as you have a very good and professional therapist. It’s all about finding one that you click with.

Thanks for the vid. Im so happy u guys are happier and getting better. The country im from has very little therapists and they are VERY expensive. So ever since i was in highschool, i have been on a quest to be my own therapist. Reading self development books, blogs and experiment with all of the suggestions given. Ofc, that takes more time compared to getting advice from an experienced therapist, but its been 10 years now. I have also accumulated quite a lot of skills to cope and end the cycle of suffering. Its all about learning that u can change and there are many ways to do so!

I started therapy/counselling at the end of March this year. However I'm having some doubts if my counsellor is right for me, just little niggles, nothing major, but sometimes I feel like I can't fully be myself and there has been times where I've felt worse about myself after sessions. I could change counsellors, but that would mean going back to square one with someone else (I'm already 10 sessions in) and there's no guarantee I'll feel 100% comfortable with someone different. It's a real dilemma....
