​@@SirHeinzbondthat's one of the reasons why I like her a lot more than some other groomers. People tend to be immediately scared when something goes wrong. In my work, where I handle horses every day, people tend to use A LOT of unnecessary things just because a horse is too active or hard to handle. They start to get nervous, and horses don't like that as much as other animals do. It's absolutely normal for a horse to be with a character. Jump, nip, pull it's ears back. It's not always a sign of aggressive behavior. It certainly becomes one when people act too emotional. Vanessa definitely controls her body language and emotions on the right way

​​​​@@Daniel-rd6ste muzzle is insanely small for this dog. Muzzles, when properly conditioned/trained and fitted, have no effect on the dog whatsoever. Mine plays, drinks, takes treats, sleeps, barks, pukes, pants, yawns, etc. in his. This poor dog can't do most of those. If the dog needed to puke, it wouldn't be able to, and could choke and die. If the dog was overheating or stressed, it wouldn't be able to fully pant to cool or calm down. This is very dangerous. Quite often for grooming and vet visits, muzzles that are too small are used for maybe 5-10 minutes max. This is an 8 minute video, but probably not an 8 minute process. Fortunately the dog did get a break for a bit. But yeah, the muzzle is likely quite uncomfortable, potentially increasing irritation.

The dog is not aggressive. I wish as a society we would start using words in a literal fashion. This dog is the literal definition of defensive. In 40 Years of rescue and Rehabilitation, specializing in dogs labeled as aggressive, I've yet to meet an aggressive dog. Literally every dog that I've had come in with that label has been wrongly labeled. Animals aren't aggressive. They are defensive. Yes, there are exceptions to every rule. But, as a whole, animals don't display aggression. The definition of words are extremely important and they are there for a reason. It is time for us as a species to do better and start using words as they are meant to be used. Using the aggression label on animals can cost them their lives. Simply because some human has labeled them with the word that does not literally Define their situation. Every animal I've taken in that has been deemed aggressive has only been defensive because of something some stupid human did to them

There is a difference when the animal is just defensive, those usually only use scare tactics and run away at the right moment, and an animal that attacks first when it's scared that someone will do it before and hurt them. I do understand tho. You just need different tactics for different scared animals. You can't just let yourself into the room with an aggressive animal. Defensive animals tend to be fore fragile and safe for handling and taming

This type of aggression can sometimes be an indicator of pain (he's reactive when moved or when switching positions). Even if it was initially caused by a traumatic event, it may be exacerbated by physical pain. It would be a good idea to take Yogi to see a vet for a thorough check-up and if possible pain trial (giving him short-term pain therapy to see if it will affect the aggression - if it does, it's related to pain.)

He probably got yanked around before they decided to kick him. Maybe he was being stubborn and not listening to them. Maybe he was already growling at them or didn't understand due to age, or inconsistency/poor training. Whatever the reason, there had to be something that pissed off the person or dog prior to the kick. There are people out there that only like dogs if they're obedient, and when they aren't, they get unreasonably angry and hateful when the dog doesn't do what they tell them.

I have had dogs most of my life, and like to think I can read their body language well, but you are so spot on with the subtleties in their behaviour and understanding their triggers. I appreciate the fact that the owners of this dog brought him in with a muzzle already. Due to the dog’s past experiences, which were extremely negative no wonder why the dog is reactive and has fear aggression when certain conditions are met. There’s something to be said for responsible dog owners, and this is an example of that.

I completely agree. I just wish they had a muzzle with enough pant room so he felt more comfortable. Him clawing at it made me sad. He's already stressed, he needs to be able to pant. This muzzle also isn't bite proof so if he has a bite history, he really should have a basket muzzle that is bite proof and would allow him to have pant room.

BearBear, Our sweet little senior Westie mix is reactive to dogs larger than him. About 7-8 years ago he was attacked by a free range behemoth dog. I had to pull his head out of the other dog’s mouth. I don’t know how he didn’t lose an eye or part of his ear. I really thought that ear was a goner. He doesn’t lunge or bite but I’m afraid his defensive barking will start something with new acquaintances. He has ptsd. He’s just a teddy bear.

@@elinamakela8435 likely a mix. We have an F1b (mom was a Golden Doodle 50/50 mix, and dad was standard poodle) golden doodle. They are super smart and learn very quickly (which is both good and bad if the owner doesn't understand what they're learning from us). We chose our's because we wanted a non-purebred dog who would have fewer health issues (from overbreeding of purebreds...so mutt vigor, essentially), but with a furry coat that is good for sensory seekers to feel (we pretty much all have sensory processing disorder, and 3 out of the 5 of us have anxiety...feeling the soft fur/hair can be helpful and calming), and also our's isn't small which was good because we wanted an oversized teddy bear. She proved to be all of those things and more. I clicker trained her myself, but she was also quickly house broken by observing our older (now gone) dog which taught her how to ask to go outside. We do have her professionally groomed, though I have groomed her myself (I just don't like the hairy mess, and don't have a good place in the house to do it)...and the pro is obviously better lol. She is a picky eater (poodle) and is scared of the unknown (not aggressive though)...she barked at a pallet of bricks in our backyard once...it was an invader and she totally failed as she backed away barking and came into the house. But she is every visitor's bff and as far as she is concerned, they are all here to see her.

Seen a few “omg put it down” comments, which make me really bummed. This dog warns her very clearly by growling when he’s nervous and upset. There is no sudden lunge-snap like some truly dangerous dogs do. He was honestly better than a lot of groomer cases in her channel. I spent almost a decade training dogs, only dealt with a few with severe fear aggression thankfully. It takes a lot of work and a LOT of treats, but dogs like this poor boy absolutely can become good, safe dogs. And it sounds like his owners are working hard to make him safe and happy again.

It is partly because of how patient, calm, and understanding you were with him… But also definitely because his new (amazing and responsible) parents are helping and working with him to overcome his traumas. I have a goldendoodle and a lot of people who are allergic to dogs walked up and petted him. There were numerous different ways they reacted. Some reacted like it was any other dog and still got the full reaction, some partly and some none at all. So it depends. My aunt and uncle rescued a dog who was 6lbs and would scream if you tried to pick her up because her previous owner broke her ribs, kicking her. What a sweet, dog. He's been traumatized. You did a wonderful job, not only grooming him, but assessing his behavioral cues which made him more comfortable. I have a West Highland mix. I rescued him from Humane Animal Rescue when he was 10. He's 14 now. He was found emaciated on the urban streets. He is so friendly, and loving. The neighborhood children love him. He is triggered by our neighbors' Golden Doodle and terrorizes him regularly just by barking at him from across the street. Our neighbors' dog will go back inside, hide in the garage, or behind their landscaping until Buddy goes back inside our home. I don't know how to correct this, as his owners describe him as high strung, and anxious. (I might add they had their previous dog euthanized for "never listening) 😭

He was so stressed for most of the groom but he still was so controlled. Your gentle handling was also really good. Hopefully he has more gentle grooming sessions like this ❤️ I cant believe he was so good for his face washing, even dogs without issues don't always like it.

I got teary eyed when you took the muzzle off because he wasn't reactive and so he didn't need it. Idk, like knowing this baby is traumatized and seeing how well you took care of him, and took your time to understand him made me emotional

I understand his fear, I am 65 and the youngest of 7 children when I was a boy 5 or 6 we had a collie that would "Heel you" as a child I did not know that ,my sisters yelled Candy sic him get him etc.. Scared the hell out of me and even to this day a large dog even a little aggressive gets my attention and drags up old feelings, so that poor pup gets a hug from me and I appreciate your kindness

I've had some unfortuneate experiences with dogs. The first one was a family friends dog, who was agressive, pinned me behind a chair and was so agressive the family themselves had him put down by animal control. A few years later I was charged by a loose /stray dog and saved by a neighbor. There were other events. But I was just a child the first incident and I am only 5 feet tall so I have had a life time of being very selective of dogs that I meet. If I am already stressed, that ptsd will surge and I will even avoid the sweetest dogs. Still love them though!

Aw, hearing that someone kicked this poor buddy for no reason makes me so sad. I also have a Goldendoodle, and he is the friendliest dog ever. It makes me want to hug both Yogi and my buddy boy. I'm so glad that you're helping him get groomed, since that's just a part of life for these dogs. Hopefully the experience is a positive one that can build for him.

Our Yorkie developed fear aggression after being attacked and "played with" by multiple large dogs. He was fine with other small dogs, and any cat that tolerated dogs. And he liked people, and adored kids! For a dog raised by tweens and adults, he would strain towards kids whenever he saw them on our walks.

They don't always need a history of abuse to be mean little suckers. But they do need to feel secure to overcome it, and a sympathetic but firm trainer helps.

I’m sorry that happened. My little Yorkie loves going to the groomers. It is in the vets office. I never heard of a dog loving the vets office. She goes tomorrow and keeps going to the door because she heard us talking about it. I hope your furbaby out grows it’s fear.

One day he got out by accident and tried to attack a cane corso mix (sweet big fellow) who yeeted him like a newspaper. The owner was so apologetic… we’re like we get it, most dogs don’t like dogs coming at there face. Owner looked suprised and said “small dog owners never apologize” me… small dogs are demons, they’re just in cute costumes

It looks like that one fits him well, but I agree that a different style muzzle with more room for him to pant or drink water while still muzzled would probably be better for Yogi when he's stressed.

i've seen too many dogs rip an oversized muzzle off (he does try in the bath tub). the problem is keeping any muzzle on a dog for too long and she gave yogi breaks. better safe than sorry, a bite from a dog that size can break bones

This seemed totally the wrong size muzzle, Yogi couldn't open his mouth fully to pant in this one. I'm glad you took cues from his body language and gave him the opportunity to not have it on. Hopefully the owners take this info and work with it going forward.

Smart of Yogi's owners to proactively get him used to wearing a muzzle! If they (or anyone else considering this tool) are reading, a properly-fitted muzzle would allow the dog to yawn, pant, and drink comfortably. There are many different sizes/shapes/materials to choose from.

I have a very anxious dog. She barks at people she doesn’t know (especially men), has never been to a groomer bc she thinks brushes will kill her, and is afraid of flies and the milk jug. I'm sorry,I can't relate to wanting to cry or feel sad for this baby. All I feel is rage. All I want to know: Is the thing that found it necessary to kick this baby in the head,is that thing in a vegetative state after getting his/her head caved in. Or is that thing paralyzed from the neck down. Or is that thing no longer on this earth. All of these option's are completely appropriate to me. After the thing has "suffered" ,then I can give that baby all the lovens and help to make his life beautiful.

I have a fear aggressive dog, and Yogi may not get all the walks he needs because the owner is afraid he will bite a dog or person. While training a fear aggressive dog I believe you are supposed to avoid the triggers at first, such as walks that pass by other dogs. It turns out that my dog snarls at other dogs while with me, but not with a dog walker. So she is professionally walked several times a week, but we will never be able to go back to the dog park where I spent many happy hourswith my other dogs.

I have a 20 month old Goldendoodle and thanks to wonderful KZbin channels like this one, i was more than prepared to raise him. Been brushing him often which mean he has no mats and also means he's very used to been groomed and is such a good boy, even at such young age. And everyone always tells me how handsome and cute he is 😄
