I'm pretty sure they changed their name because the original e-word is considered a derogatory name for Inuit and Yupik people of the Arctic.

They still do amazing more serious songs, but most people overlook them in favor of the goofy stuff while it's way more fun to have the whole experience. They put a lot of heart into everything they do.

Original lead singer Sushi left early in 2020 because he said he couldn't identify himself with the music they're doing anymore, while the other band members wanted to lean even more into the humorous side. Sushi founded his new project Ghostkid and EC started searching for a replacement. Prism (originally released on the 2019 album Rehab) was the song Nico put in as his application (he has that video on his youtube channel). They put a version with Nico on vocals and guitarist Tobias Rauscher as guest musician on the MMXX ep (released in 2020).

EC was always a goofy band, but they are dropping brilliant dead serious songs since day one too. I really love their funny and goofy songs, but I love the serious ones the most. Best examples from the time with Sushi are Best day or Crystals or with Nico Neon, Parasite or Mindreader.

Find the audition video of Nico doing this one... It's just as good.

This is one of the songs that I like both the old Sushi version and the MMXX Nico version. From the Tekkno album check out Neon, no musicvideo for that but both the album version and an acoustic (Studio Brussel live) are beautiful. Plus I think you would enjoy the Prism acoustic from Radio BoB.

This is my favourite song from the pre-Nico era. I get the feeling that this is the direction Sushi wanted to continue in, while the rest of the band were pivoting to the funnier stuff.

Electric! Callboy can go serious and dark too, but another style. The Song is called mindreader

@@sheryljohnson6602 Electric or Eskimo Callboy? Hate/love is with Sushi or? With Niko "Parasite" is another option

So, Sushi (previous vocalist) was growing in a direction that was different than the rest of the band. No, they weren't transitioning into "funny", and he wanted to be more serious... the thought to just dive into the funny happened AFTER the success of "Hypa Hypa". They were working on several ideas with Nico, and just wanted a goofy introduction to ease the tension of introducing a new vocalist (most of their fans knew him from his old band, "To The Rats And Wolves", because the bands played together a lot, and were good friends), so they released HYPA HYPA for a laugh, and HATE/LOVE to show off their shiny, new Nico. *sparkles* But yeah, they weren't satisfied with Rehab. While it was good, it was also a lot softer, and less "hard". There was a lot of arguing in the studio, especially between Kevin and Sushi, and making music and performing wasn't as enjoyable. Sushi leaving was the best choice for ALL of them. You should check out his current project, "GHØSTKID". He's fuckin thriving, man, able to properly express himself.

Thank you so much for this choice of song! The lyrics never miss to hit close to home. If you loved the acousic version, you simply need to check out the video of the one-take acoustic studio version with Nico's amazing lead vocals and Kevin's (the screamer's) backing vocals here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZnqqpomrhtebY7s Also, if you want to indulge in EC going Disney and Backstreet Boys (live and acoustic), check out this classic footage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZfalptuoK2kZtU
