The states already control curriculum and they suck! give control back to the School Districts.

He has a point. Teachers could really do a number to kids if they interpret wrong.

What is so different between American children in these different states? Doesn’t a country like the US need some centralized standards in education? I feel like if there is only state-steered education some of these states will fall behind drastically.

Education is already controlled locally. Curriculum and education standards are set by states and local school districts, not the US Dept of Ed.

what is the DOE needed for then?

@ I think that’s a good question. Prior to 1979 education was addressed from the federal level through the Department of Health Education and welfare and at that time Congress felt education wasn’t a federal priority so they transferred the existing responsibilities to its own Department. The US Dept of Ed truly exist to assist and support the states. They have distributed money to states so ensure the quality educational opportunities for all students, enhance collaboration with state and local entities to improve education quality, and encourage public, parental, and student engagement. It also focuses on advancing education through research, improving coordination and management of Federal programs, and ensuring accountability to national leadership and the public.

@@hutsal01 in other words, money laundering. Because the 10% of funding allocated by the DOE has delivered no discernable improvements in education quality in at least the last 25-35 years

@@arcadiagreen150interesting. Who should we hold accountable? The DOE who made money available or the States who implement all education?

@hutsal01 any department whether post office or DOE that either loses money or misses its goals every year should be shuttered

I agree with change and letting states educate their own. Separate church and state. THAT IS WHAT SUNDAY SCHOOL IS FOR.

Na he is more worried about the qualification of teachers to teach Bible in public schools. He has no problem forcing you to learn Bible. These people aren’t good

Believe it or not, parts of the Bible were required reading in both grade school and high school in 1980's Communist Poland based on my personal experience growing up there at that time, so I disagree with the senator that it has to be taught by someone educated in a seminary. There are good books that can be used to present the historical events from the Bible which will make non-believers see it as containing a good amount of reliable historical facts. Parts of the Bible, like the Psalms, the Song of Songs, the Book of Job, the Book of Jonah, the letters of Paul, James, and John, can be used in literature classes as great examples of various literary genres. Whether leftist educators will try to downplay their authenticity does not matter, since children will still be exposed to the wonderful truth and beauty contained in the Bible. The Bible is the word of God to us Christians, but it is still one of the greatest works of history and literature ever written that even an honest atheist would see at least on equal terms with the Odyssey, Aneid or the historical works of Herodotus, Josephus or Suetonius if they were in any way objective.

Hi, Oklahoma viewer here! We don’t all agree with these insane takes. We understand there are federal regulations in order to make sure the bare minimum requirements are being met. We are placed 49th in education for a reason. Do not listen to this 💩.

Potentially, teachers who don't know what they are doing could radicalize a kid and... To be a leader on this issue. No thanks 😅.

And you obviously the Bible doesn’t belong in schools, at least not mandatory. It is called separation of church and state. If you want Our child to be taught a religion, send them to bible school, quran school, tora school or whatever.
