After visiting 12 cities in 12 months in North America, we moved to Ireland for three months. There were lots of preparations to make: storage, phones, securing a rental car, and flights. Watch our video for some tips you might want to use if you're moving to Ireland (or elsewhere in Europe) from the USA.
Two quick recommendations:
If you're flying into Dublin and want to rent a car, consider getting one from the Tadg Riordan Tallaght Toyota dealership www.trmtallagh.... They offer short-term rentals. We had our vehicle for three months, but we were told that a person can rent one for just a day as well. It was a great experience working with Keive Murphy at Tadg Riordan Tallaght.
If you're flying to Ireland from the USA, consider flying Icelandair and taking advantage of their stopover option. To see how amazing it is, take a look at our Iceland Adventures: • Our Iceland Adventure

We had a family trip last year to Ireland 🇮🇪 . A Great place to visit that's even more impressive than the Cliffs of Moher are the Kerry Cliffs. The Kerry Cliffs are off of the Famous Ring of Kerry. It's 1,000 ft higher, no tourist and Great Pubs on the water in town.

Look I understand compared to the us and allot of Europe the crime is low, but in saying that there is still a massive problem with crime only in certain towns/villages but if you avoid putting yourself in a situation you should be fine, the area where I live and grew up in the northwest is lovely but once you look under the surface you'll find allot of dark, depressing, and really just sad things I'm not going to go into it but Im sure you get the picture, drugs and alcohol mixed with poverty can really mess people up, honestly alcohol more than anything has brought allot of problems

I have a consulting/software development job that can be done from anywhere, so it makes it easier to work in different places. Just keep researching. Take it one day at a time. It's ok to fail at things, in fact it's good because that means you're trying and it also means you're learning. You're not a failure, you're just up against a tough time in life.

I appreciate honesty and, I know the truth when I hear it. I´m 58 now planning on retiring in Cork just after 2028, and, I'm sick to my stomach over it. I've lived in Carolina and Florida my whole life. Ireland is a cold, wet, dank place where the food is absolutely the most bland, tasteless pile of nothing of any country on Earth. So, married Irish and have no choice other than staying in the US, which I won't. I´m trying to adapt by getting thin, learning to cook Spanish, French and Italian food at home. IF I can find some English speakers who'd rather Speak Spanish and live in Spain, would rather speak Spanish or are Spanish, I can make life worth living in Ireland. After driving 40 years in the US, I cannot drive in Ireland. I´ve seen way too many serious wrecks causes by US expats in Ireland. Far too easy to forgot other side of the car, other side of the road. A perfect example of how Ireland tried to be weird compare the the world. Right now, I´m HATING the thought of living there. Whereas mitigation for termites was easy in Florida just by buying a first floor of all block, there is no mitigation for Irish Rotting Damp. It can literally destroy your home and there´s no insurance. I though hell was hot and on fire. Apparently not.

We found Ireland to be delightful. Every place has its problems, but every place also has its special charms. Hopefully you can find some when you move. And getting used to driving on the other side didn't take that long to have it become 2nd nature.

@@chrisplusmelissa Thank you for your kind and heartfelt response. I could feel the blowup coming between me and my Irish husband over it and, to be honest, he put me in my place tonight. He gave me the choice not to go and, I realized all the reasons I'm leaving the US cannot be mitigated, will only grow and, Ireland is what I make it for myself. Like you said, special charms and people to befriend. Thank you. Okay, Ireland.
