Jack was wounded in Vietnam after landing in a hot LZ. He lost some of his Marines that day and after returning home, grieved their loss by turning to drugs and alcohol. After a friend helped him discover the help available at VA, Jack turned his life around, went on to become a successful entrepreneur, and today helps other Veterans as a mentor and advocate. Men like Jack are invaluable to our returning Vets from war. I have been dealing with Vietnam since 1968 when I left there. It was 30 years till I got help for my problems over coming my alcohol and anger over the war. It is good to see these young men getting help early and hopefully getting a better understanding of how to cope and grow after their war. Great job Jack helping these men.

Mark Sorensen We owe so much to our vets that can never be fully repaid, but it's time our VA started really helping ALL the vets that need it! We know so much more about the stress and nightmares and mental pains that can only be felt by those who fought for us, that more therapy, groups and all the other techniques that work, should be more and more wisely arranged for and available! Also, as civilians we can support the organizations with our donations, or in other words we should put our $$ where our mouths are! They gave so much we can push ourselves to help! T

For Jack @ Balboa Hospital-OMG . . . My high school yrs, in Burbank, CA, '69-'72, were tainted by the Vietnam War. I can remember hearing radio/TV, EV ER Y night @ the dinner table, relaying the news of how many casualties went down that day. It made my family, me, so disgusted w/gov't, so enormously saddened by lives lost AND especially angry over the horrifying treatment this country gave soldiers on their return home. I am so glad to see you & your wife happily doing what you do for today's vets. I make sure, every time I see our military here in Hawaii, to (tearfully)thank tbem for their sacrifices too. Many Blessings to you all, for the best recoveries.

But it not that I don't know about the service I meant to say was no one in my family has been in,I would of hoped that my 2 Boys and Joined I believe that it makes them into Strong Adult Men Being that they didn't like school at all so they both quit,That right there I wish that I could of made them In list But at 18 yrs old unfortunately you can't for many many years both of my kids were very troubled and they got into a lot of trouble in the years to come,to get to the Point my younger Son Mike in Dec.13th 2021 Died when he didn't come home he just walked over to the store to get cigs and what ever else, got to the store but not inside he just fell right down on the side of the store wide open area it was about 9 pm and absoluly now one had seen him he's a fairly big man how nobody at all could see him II Find That Real Hard Hard To Believe,But Obviously someone had seen him cuz the Police Had Showed up at 11:25 am the next morning and of course his wallet was sitting right here in my table but earlier I had went out looking for him mostly to go in the stores and sure enough the first store he told me that they found a body over by the liquor store well you should have seen me take off running of course they already had taken my Son,I New It Was My Son In My Heart,Well I Called The Police Station and wanted to know if they brought in anyone and if they did was it a Male His Name Was Michael O. The Detective A While Later Came To My House To Ask Me Questions they couldn't tell me to much cuz they had no ID.i said here's a Picture of my son and myself but he pretty much said that was him I Just totally lost it of course the police didn't want to get into trouble all I said was I won't say any thing that you hinted to me,they had left and see I new it right away he had just got home from rushford detox that morning Monday that night is when he went to the store by himself his girlfriend lived upstairs so he had went out the back door and Tori came down to get dinner I just cooked I asked her where Mike was she told me he went to the store and I got very upset cuz earlier that day he was acting not right I had trouble waking him up then he came around I just should of called the Parameterds that's my quilt that I'm living with but I said to Tori what ever you do if you need to go to the store do not have Mike go I'm nervous how he was in the afternoon I said to her if he insisted on going then make sure you go with him or me and you can go or myself if I need to,But Know I couldn't help what I said to her but if one of us went we could of called 911,So I don't think she wanted me to know that they were going to drink I'm quite sure,Well I don't have my Mikey no more do to Tori not going with him or at least telling me so I can go with him and she could of watched our the dinner,That was a very long Story Sorry once I start talking about Mike I get carried away,To My Son Michael I love You More Than You Can Imagine,To The Moon And Back,You Will Always Be With Me,And Your Ashes That I Where Lays Right On My Heart 💜 R.I.P. Luv.U Forever.🌠

Wow thank you so much Jack, and your wife too, what a touching tribute to the young guys coming back and I loved the part where you said your Staff Sergeant and other guys that were killed in Vietnam were still with you there... You have some amazing coping skills. You make me want to take my medication everyday and get therapy at the CBOC and just keep going on the right path :) Thanks to your wife too, what a miracle you guys have been to Make the Connection and Veterans in general :) THANK YOU!

My dad, Albert L. Gramm, was a retired One Star Brigadier General who had been one of the commanding officers of the 26th Yankee Division. This makes me connected to the servicemen and women in our country. I wrote about it in my memoir A Spiritual Renewal; A Journey to Medjugorje. It's about our relationship.

Thank you everyone. I’ll never forget the Vietnam war. Lost my love over there. And some good friends. My Dad was never right from world war 1 . But my Mom always knew how to take care of him. Prayers for our vets and our service men and women. My grandson joined the Army 2 years ago says he loves it. My last child’s daddy was a marine and he was a drinker said don’t ask me no questions about the war. He’s passed on now. He was a machine gun operator. I can’t imagine what some of y’all went through. I did find one of his awards for going above duty. He was mad cause he watched his partner get blowed up. Breaks my heart to think what some went through . Prayers to you all .

Thank you each one for sharing these personal stories. By your being open , encouraging other vets to seek help, starts the road to them healing. My poor father was in World War 11, and never got the help that he needed, and I was very frightened of him, as he would go from 1-10 in seconds, without much warning, as one young man described himself. Dad died at 89, and it was only the last 10 years of his life that he was diagnosed with PTSD, and got some help through the VA. Thank you for this” Make the connection,” program.

How did soldiers long time ago deal with war. They had no guns to far at a long distance. Probably most of them had face to face combat with a sword. Did they went through tramas? Is that why Spartans trained the way way they did. If i would become a soldier i would turn my self into a rock, think like a rock and be a stone. Nothing will bother me nothing........
