Seeker of the truth--"Where would we be without a brain?
Seeker of a little privacy-- "You should know."
Dreaming, apparently, falls under several categories of mind activity--right knowledge, misconception, fantasy, sleep, and memory--that's ALL of them described in the yoga literature. In other words, the people that have thought about the nature of dreams have decided they can actually be a good thing, it depends on what we use them for. The Course says the same thing, but with emphasis on the dream is a substitute for Reality--we often 'live in the dream' or 'confuse our fantasies for realities.'
Active imagination, role-playing, psycho-drama, dream analysis, and the quick n' dirty 'screaming with the car windows roled up' are ways of working the body-mind to achieve insight and release from psycho-physical bindings. ACIM lays out a map--we live in a dream and we can know HOW we live in a dream by paying attention to our nighttime dreaming. At night, if we are lucky enough to have a sound REM sleep, something in our mind-brain concocts amazing stories built out of things we can recognize and some that we can't in order to 'say something' which usually 'does not make sense.' Who dreams this stuff up? Who or what is the thing in us that has the ability or the desire to devise complicated, surreal, but at basis, informative plot-lines that selectively defy cause and effect, the laws of physics, good taste, or anything like logic or reason? It operates autonomously, like it truly is a separate being, living a separate reality--and yet one that seeks out some kind of obtuse relationship with me as a waking identity. It's a miracle...of some kind.
As is the waking dream we manage. There is so much stuff going on at so many levels, you've got to wonder why. The idea it is all random brain firings from clumps of neurons is as ridiculous as chimpanzees typing Shakespeare. The ONLY reason anybody can argue that 40 jillion monkeys on typewriters could eventually come up with "Macbeth' is because it is untestable--and thus we live our lives here--and so it is that Mister ACIM wags His cosmic finger at us for dreaming it all away. We do not test the lifelong experiment we open our eyes to every day. Dreams CAN enlighten us--and our waking dream is intended to enlighten us as well--it takes a certain kind of attention. Notice I said 'certain kind' that cuz we always heap attention someplace, all the time. It just happens to be the highly disciplined, lazer focused goal of shattering and scattering our thoughts and ideas to the wind, calling it 'laziness', or 'lack of discipline.' We WISH it was an A.D.D. problem--it is a GOAL problem. You know, it's easy to pontificate about what we should or should not do. Let us fondle some brass tacks.

Thank-you for tuning in. It seems strange to say in a public forum, but I am feeling a thread that connects us all in ways I would never have thought could be 'sensed.'

99,999% of those who speaks about "dreaming" and "illusion" and "maya" etc, are surely still fast asleep.

[Looking around, surprized] "Who, me?" [Scratches his head] "All of us?" [Looking down, sadly] "Yes, all of us..." he mutters to no one. Thanks for commenting, really!
