Hello everyone, thank you for this post. The term "Kali-yuga" comes from the Vedic scriptures, which are written in Sanskrit. Veda means knowledge, the task of the Vedas is to give us knowledge. These writings now explain that we live in a temporary universe divided into 14 dimensions. The terrestrial planets like the Earth belong to the lowest dimension in which matter has the greatest density. The higher a dimension, the more subtle it is. The more subtle, the slower time runs. What is a year for us is equivalent to a day two dimensions above us. There are dimensions in which divine creatures live and there are dimensions in which demonic beings live. The earthly worlds like our earth are intended to give living beings who have achieved a human form of life the opportunity to strive for perfection. In the dimensions of the demons this is not possible, there the meaning of life consists solely of sensual (physical) satisfaction, especially sexual satisfaction. In Kali-yuga there is not only a decline in consciousness by chance but because matter is the densest in this age and so the identification of the living being with the material body is strongest. So in this age we always act in the sense of the body = "I am a woman", "I am a man", "I am white", "I am black", "I am a Christian", "I am a Muslim ", "I am Russian", I am American, etc. And all personal, family, social, religious and national conflicts arise from this false identification. This false identification is called "ahankara" in Sanskrit. In this age, the only method to attain liberation from samsara is to chant the holy names of God through Mantra. And The Kali Yuga started after 36 years of Yudhistira's reign after the war of kurukshetra. The King of that time wasn't Yudhistira but his GreatGrandson Parikshita (Arjuna-subhadra's son Abhimanyu's son Parikshit). An incident takes place with King Parikshit when he was on a hunting trip and that incident marks the beginning of the Kaliyug and the end of The Dwapara yug. The supreme power always comes at the end of every Yuga to clense the humanity and leaves behind only those who deserve to enter the next yug.

But if we see, the Kurukshetra war which was fought during the final years of the Dwapar Yuga (also a Yugantar) also had so much evil. Even those fighting for Dharma were using chal kapat to gain victory over the evil. Such was the power of the evil Kaliyuga already! But Kali was spared by King Parikshit and this Asura shakti is said to be a mindset which continues to thrive till today and is in fact now growing to its peak. While Bhagwan Kalki has already arrived and is waiting to announce his presence the world will see a lot more suffering through wars (even nuclear attacks), pestilences (pandemics), natural calamities and even mutations in animals and humans due to nuclear radiation and celestial attacks (solar flares or even asteroid) on Earth which will cause a shift in the axis and grid breakdown. What we're experiencing now is the reset or Yugantar and this is the beginning stage. The culmination of all wars and destruction will happen in the next decade when all the forces will become visible, almost like a Manthan. Those affected by Kali will become unimaginably cruel but Dharma will get us through this time. But I believe the new golden age though peaceful at last, will take a lot of time for resettling and rebuilding humanity, and it will be nothing like we know today.

Swami Sri Yukteshwarji (SRF line of gurus, in his book "The Holy Science") postulated that Kali Yuga proper ended around +-1700, BUT there was a following 200 year transitional period. Even though we are technically now in Dwarpara, most incarnated souls are still trapped in a Kali mentality. Here we go: The Four Yugas from the Bhakta Handbook Each yuga is an age with specific characteristics in which incarnations of Krsna appear. The four yugas make up a cycle called divya-yuga, which lasts 4,320,000 years. One thousand of these yugas equal one day of Brahma, which is called a kalpa. Brahma’s lifespan is 100 years of his time. In each yuga there is a specific process of self-realization (yuga dharma). SATYA YUGA - (sometimes also called krta-yuga): the golden age lasts 1,728,000 years. The process of self-realization in this yuga is meditation on Visnu. During this yuga the majority of the population is situated in the mode of goodness and the average life span at the beginning of the yuga is 100,000 years. TRETA YUGA - also called the silver age, lasts 1,296,000 years and the process of self realization is the performance of opulent yajnas(sacrifices). The average life span is 10,000 years and the godly qualities decrease one fourth compared to the Satya yuga. It is during this age that Varna-asrama-dharma is introduced. DVAPARA YUGA - or the bronze age, lasts 864,000 years and the process of self realization is the worship of the deities within temples. Godly qualities are reduced to 50% by now and the average life expectancy is only 1000 years. KALI YUGA - the iron age of hypocrisy and quarrel lasts 432,000 years. Lord Krsna appeared in His original, trancendental form right before the beginning of Kali Yuga. The process of self realization is sankirtana, the chanting of the Holy Names of the Lord. God consciousness is reduced to 25% of the population and life expectancy is only 100 years. By now already 5000 years of Kali yuga have passed and it is predicted that by the end of the yuga people will hardly be older than 20 years and their only food will be meat.

Kali is the name of the demon that harms humanity. Kali also means dark. Because of this demon Kali, this yuga is called Kali Yuga. But the word Kali comes from a root kad, “suffer, hurt, startle, confuse,” in other world mass suffering, hurt and confusion. Kali parents are Krodha (anger)father and Himsa (violence)mother and his sister/consort is Durukti. She begets a son named Bhaya (fear) and a daughter named Mrutyu (death). She is also the grandmother of a boy named Niraya (hell) and a girl named Yatana (torture) begotten by her children Bhaya and Mrutyu. Durukti and Kali belong to the lineage of Adharma (impropriety), who grows up from the Malinapataka, a deadly dark and sinful affliction produced from Brahma's back at the time of creation. Durukti is the granddaughter of Lobha (greed) and Nikriti (dishonesty), great-granddaughter of Dambha (vanity) and Maya (illusion), and great-great-granddaughter of Adharma and Mithya (falsehood). According to the Kalki Purana, Durukti dies shortly before Kali.

The long count system puts us in Kali Yuga but the short count puts us in Dwapara Yuga. Highly reccomend reading 'The Holy Science' by Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri (Parmahansa Yogananda's guru) where he explains the calculations and reasoning. In Dwapara Yuga, more subtle dimensions of existence become known to humanity e.g. electricity, quantum theory etc. The entire cycle is based off of 25,000 years from Satya yuga to Kali yuga. Namaskaram.

The basic difference in between Sanatana Hindu Dharma and other three major holy Abrahamic religions are Sanatan Believe in multiple rebirth, multi dimensional universe, 33 tier of Different Bhagwans and joyful life at four stages in life span. You have the full right to argue with almost each and every Sanatani belief system. You may obey or not, you maybe neutral even ethist, still you are a Hindu. At least 10000 yrs old time tested Life Style.
