To all the comments about Hong Kong 🇭🇰 is not safe and there’s no more democracy because of China, we hear you but we feel that its still safer for our family than America 🇺🇸 with the Asian hate going on and people getting beaten, and even killed just for the way we look. I feel safer in Hong Kong knowing I can leave my door with my baby girl and I won’t be targeted as someone’s next hate crime.

Wow! Im quite surprised, it must be really bad in California for you to make such statement, bc in Virginia or some east coast states Ive traveled to lately, I have not experienced any hate for the way I look😕 but I respect your choice and wish you and your family the best🥰

@@TrangNguyen-hw8ue Hate crimes here in NYC where I live have increased a lot especially in Manhattan. Many elders and AAPI's are being attacked/assaulted on public transportation, in broad daylight, sometimes even as they're just walking down the street. There was an attack in Times Square and the people who witnessed the assault did nothing to help and even closed the door on the poor victim. I also feel very unsafe here in America and wish I could move so I understand that Karen also is apprehensive of the rising violence towards AAPI's :( It's a very sad reality we're currently in right now.

I’m sure they are fully aware and know more what it’s like, then we do from just hearing the news. Let them use their best judgement, I doubt they would bring Dove to a place they saw as unsafe.

If you keep your head down, follow orders, and don't say or do anything negative against the government, then you'll very likely be safe and happy. I personally wouldn't want to live in a world like that, but to each their own.
@numinuminixstix2 жыл бұрын
@veganlifethebestlife Yes, I would, and I do. From what you're saying, it sounds to me like you have a distorted view of that incident. First of all, the mere fact that there were Asians there does not indicate that being Asian had anything to do with it. There were many races there, so I doubt that race had anything to do with it. The dude who perpetrated the act apparently hated all people. Second of all, you have to keep probability in mind. About 30 people were injured in that shooting. Horrible... unquestionably. But out of the millions of people in NYC and the thousands of subway rides that happen daily, what's your chance of this happening to you? Compare that to living in a communist society where every. single. person. is affected in some way. Every person has limits of some kind on their freedom. There are many people who prefer having a government that has an iron fist over society, but I personally don't. In China, at least recently, there were many people forced to quarantine without notice at their workplace and live there! Their lockdowns are ridiculous.

This is so exciting! I will say as a mixed kid (chinese, german) who lived in China during ages 7-9 and then in Singapore from ages 10-17 i am very grateful to have been able to experience living in countries that my family is originally from. With that being said, I experienced being a bit of an outcast because of the fact that I am mixed and i looked different from other majority of people. I am pretty sure ONE of the most important reasons is because her family is there. Especially knowing that they have a child now, people need to also understand family is important for a woman when it comes to raising her children. Knowing that it’s not easy for people to travel internationally these days, it’s understandable. I came from an Asian country too but oftentimes I think about whether my husband and I should move back or not when we finally have children just for the sake of having family support from my side. Plus, especially if your whole family is there and some family members are not as healthy to occasionally make the trips to visit you in a foreign country. The child needs to learn and meet your side of family too. It’s complicated to understand until you come from 2 different worlds raising children between worlds. Not an easy task.

Our main motivation is safety. Frankly speaking, the USA is not a safe place, especially for Asians given the current political climate around COVID. We were literally 20 feet away from a police stand-off this year on our way to get tacos...we shouldn't have to live in fear of violence but that's slowly become our reality. AAPI people are being attacked almost daily in the USA. My personal fear is that Karen and Dove would be targeted for violence and I wouldn't be able to protect them. So excited for you! Just wanted to give my experience on the learning Chinese part. I essentially grew up from about age 2 in a mandarin speaking city and only visited extended family once a year, but the main reason I can speak Cantonese comfortably is that it was the only language spoken at home. On the opposite I was exposed to a lot of teochew from my dad's side, but it was not the exclusive language so I never learnt it. Everyone learns language differently but I'm guessing if you want her to retain Cantonese she will have to use it extensively somehow even after moving back. I also watched a lot of Cantonese tv shows and dubbed animes which must've helped me a lot.

For sure everyone has their own concerns for the moving and understanding that you guys must going through something very serious issue that’s why you made this decision. For me, I never lived in the US just only traveled so cannot compare the different of the places. But for HK, I can say that this place is not a good ideal place for ‘living ‘ . Especially the educational in HK! Yes, for your family , you can afford the international school but for the whole environment, it is definitely NO to move back to HK. It’s not worth it!

Oh.., if only few years that is no point to moving. As the baby doesn’t have the memories for this age and no one can 100% to ensure the safety issue in US so what’s the point for the moving ? Of course this their decision and will respect! But only one thing which is very disappointed, they will not bring the dog to HK and let’s the family or frds to take care. For the true dog/pet lovers, everyone know that this is the entire commitment no matter what’s we need to take care them forever, there is no excuse coz they are our family not the pet or toy!
@LEOTHOM3 жыл бұрын
@@shushu9515 I can see your perspective about our dogs. It’s a heartbreaking decision for sure. One thing about us is our dogs are always visiting other people. We don’t see them as “our” dogs per se that constantly need to be with us forever, but rather dogs that we care for that bring joy to our community of friends and family. Hiro spent time with my mom after her surgery and she felt so good to have his company. The fact we have friends so willing to care for our pets speaks for the community they’ve fostered. It’s tough, but they’re going to bring happiness to others, which warms my heart.
