Very proud of you for NOT giving up on your dream! I’m inspired by your effort, impressed by your honest admissions and so I encourage you both to forge ahead. Your rewards will be based in honesty. No one can take that from you. 👍 By the way, I live in Central California which is an important agricultural empire. I know little of farming, however, but I have leaned a few things. I would like to share with you something you may already know, but I’ll risk it anyway… It is often an agricultural practice to graft a particular crop tree onto a different root stock. Almonds, some walnuts and pistachios are done that way. You may look into how it works with the particular variety of apple you have selected. I think this is done because it has been found that a particularly favorable fruit actually has a weak or disease-prone root structure, but once grafted to a stronger root structure from perhaps a tree that has unfavorable fruit, the new hybrid tree performs very well.

Apples are often grafted, because you dont know what type of apple you get when you grow it from seed. You can buy very small grafted trees which shouldnt be too expensive...

I assume there might be some charm in not knowing what you're getting into :) Sadly in Norway everything is ridiculously priced :D

@@tilldalingthe rootstock is often suited to local soil conditions and may be dwarfed so that the trees don't get too big. The roots from the fruiting wood may not be tolerant to local diseases, hence the grafting.

You are an inspiration. I have also moved to Norway with dreams of finding a place in nature. We are also in a fjord cabin waiting for our dream property. We are on the west coast in Stadlandet. Looking forward to videos of your new farm. Subbed.

Ho and neat trick for veggies in Norway: you can get eggplants that high up in the north, you have to graft your eggplant on a tomato plant.

Do you speak Norwegian or can you survive with English?

Most all of Norwegian folks under the age of 35 seem to have a very good handle on English.

Since Till's German and has a very good command of English, I'm sure he will have no problem learning once he has the time. Vocabulary is very similar to German and grammar is basically English. Thing is, in the fjords, people usually speak really strong dialects. I've got some resources about "standard" Norwegian and for Nynorsk (the base for the dialects) if anyone needs anything.

Very true! It's not too hard honestly 😊 time is the real issue. For the time being I have to prioritise making money over learning actively :)

But damn if you go into the fjords along the west coast I do not understand a word!
