@emisor9272

On a second watch, i'm of two minds, because while evil didn't manage to kill anyone, that's not really that important: The storyteller is almost always going to adjust the kills to reach a final three, which of course needs 2 good players and 1 legion. It was more important to create a solid world in which a legion player was seen as legit, and at the end, they almost did that with Luke, even without executing powerful townsfolk like Adam. Whereas while good managed to never execute their own team mates, they did make a beginner's mistake with executing on final four, not accounting for the possibility of 2 legion still alive

@@emisor9272 Had Ben gave evil the win - this would mean killing 3 of the 4 good players at night - giving evil the win without any Daytime kills. This would be incredibly unfair in a legion game where good are outnumbered and their only saving grace, is the storyteller will rarely kill them at night. Evil getting an execution IS important.
@maker0824

I didn't think of that. I fully disagree because I always root for evil, but I think you are probably right. Evil did a decent job of not getting too sused, but it's true they never even pushed for a good to get executed. but also, they didn't really get the chance to. But also they didn't get the chance to because they didn't do it. But here's my final conclusion: Good should have lost. They made a massive mistake of executing, even tho Ben told them the dangers. They deserved to lose for that.
@narninian2796
@narninian2796 10 ай бұрын
@@maker0824 They executed an evil player; They literally never executed a good player; In any other game, this would 100% be a win. In a legion game, this also should be a win. Had Good lost, that the decision was made before the game even started since the storyteller would be the one to kill all the good players. This means it would be impossible for good to win, and the entire 3 hour game was a masquerade; a 3 hour prank on the good team who only executed evil players, and still lose. I think that if this is your opinion on how to run legion, you should let players know that good team doesn't have a chance to win from the start, so they know that nothing they do matters. Some players might enjoy going through the motions like that, who knows. The only reason evil was still 'in the game' was the storytellers (rightfully) wanted to keep the game interesting despite good team doing so well. The good team probably earned a more lopsided finale, but Ben/Carley wanted to keep things interesting by heavily helping the struggling evil team. This makes it more fun -- but it doesn't mean evil 'deserves' to win after not getting any good players executed. In the moment, its easy to forget that, and I think thats exactly what happened to Ben when he was saying thinks like 'evil deserved to win' or 'this would be a tie'; I think upon further review anybody with a good understanding of the game would know getting it to the final day was the correct decision, and that evil didn't earn a win there. They still had a chance if they could sell luke as not demon at the end
@whocares2277
@whocares2277 9 ай бұрын
I agree. Ben explained before the game how legion is expected to get good players to execute each other while a legion player dies during the night. Legion didn't manage that a single time. They were dying so rapidly that the storytellers had to deviate and kill two of the four good players. In addition, the good team killed a legion player on day 5 - that's the best they could do. If that makes the evil team win in night 6 then the storytellers should have ended the game after day 4 already (where no one was executed).
@SilentFlatulence

In defense of their decision to play out the last round, there wasn't a single good player who died by execution. They would have all died as a result of the demon, meaning there wasn't a single legion player who convinced the good team to execute one of their own. It's better to play it out to the end in that case in my opinion.

I'm fine w/ there decision, however i would have given the game to the evil team. It's just like in sports where sometimes one team outplays the other, but still wind up losing b/c that's life sometimes and just how the game played out. So while good was outplaying evil (just by kills i mean), evil still got to a point first where they should have won and to me that means something. Again though not really a huge deal. Both decisions made sense and this episode was fantastic.
@SilentFlatulence

@@anthonyc981 Personally, I don't think evil did outplay good here. They played in the background, which is something you tend to see more from games like Avalon. I'm not saying they didn't do well, I just don't think they outplayed the good team to the point where they deserve to be given the win off a storyteller decision. To think of it in another way, with the demon kill in the previous night (bringing it down to 4 players,) the storytellers would have basically decided the game at that point, because there would be nothing the good team could have done to win the game with 4 players alive, and two of them good. Also, the good team literally could not have played any better, since they never executed one of their own, and they figured out the alive evil players by the end. If the evil team still wins off of that, then what could the good team have done?

@@SilentFlatulence Wait maybe i worded it wrong but i actually agree with you that the good players outplayed the evil team. My point was just that even though that happened evil still "technically" should have won. I know it was b/c of the storytellers but that's totally w/ in the rules and a justified way of winning. It might not be the most satisfying but it's legit. That's why i mentioned the sports analogy where a team gets outplayed but still wins. Have to agree with those disagreeing with Ben's claim that the Evil team played "really well" and probably should have won. @@csarmii If you mean what more could the Storyteller's do that's my point. The only reason ths game was even remotely close was because the Storyteller carried Evil hard, the evil team faied at every turn. If you mean what more could Evil do then on a specific level that's gonna be harder for me to say because i made this comment a year ago and haven't watched the game since but in short, Play better. Bit of a cop out answer i know but the reason this went so bad is because at no point were any evils able to gain sway over a good. Some evils will die in this gamemode and have to die most likely since it's a mirror of the standard gamemode but when evil can't convince a single good player to mis-lynch the entire game they have fundementaly failed. If you can't decive your opponent in a social deception game then you've failed at the games ultimate objective. My original point was not so much that Evil sucked this game it was that Ben and Co. were giving them praise for "Playing well" when that's the exact opposite of what happened. Evil had a terrible game with every win the had being shoved into their lap by the storytellers, that's not an example of "good play" on Evil's Part.

Not only was he the only source of killing good players but he was also about to just hand a win to the evil team for a decision, while the game was in a position where if the good team hadn’t made that decision their only way to win was to hope he helped them, and most of the reason that position even existed was because of him.

I know Ben has stated that he believes the storyteller's job is to get the game to a guaranteed final night, but I also think he's take it too far sometime. To have not voted out a single good the whole game means that evil played in such a way that it was upon storytellers to get anyone good out, which doesn't sound much like an earned victory to me. I love this game, and watching all of these episodes, but absolutely the worst call I've seen, in my opinion.

@@Phyrre56 The problem I have with this justification is that a legion games night kills does not follow real logic. In fact, i assume that in most legion games, legion players tend to die. Killing good player for balance and at the end using this justification would have been wrong. They luckely made the right choice at the end. They after all do not have to kill and for the sake of balance having the players finish the game seems to be always the best.

I think the simple solution is that in a legion game, the ST has to try and arrange the ending so that it is 3 Good VS 1 Evil. Because if it's 2 VS 2, then Good cannot win no matter what unless a night death is skipped.

SPOILERS: I think an evil victory at that point would have felt unearned, especially since the evils hadn't really managed to trick any of the good players into executing a good player. The good team earned it just through the trust that Adam and Sully placed in each other alone, although I don't know what the hell Sully was thinking drunking the Empath. The clever play would have been to take the Artist (a role literally nobody was claiming) and find out if Adam was really the Empath, if Brooke was on the evil team, or if there was really a Legion in play. The answer to any one of those questions could have saved him a lot of aggravation.

Yes, it is very weird to create a 2v2. Except for the insane meta that is "ok, there are four us, let's wait for the story teller to kill one more before we do anything". A four player scenario is either 1v3 (1 good, 3 evil), which will whittle down to 1v1 where legion wins, so it is a win for evil. if it is 3v1 for the good however, you will be at 2v1 on the next day with a good player killed. and with 2v2 it will be 2v1 on the next day as well with a killed good player. In neither case anyone wants do to an execution, because 2v2 becoming 2v1 before the night. Which makes it reasonable that there should be no killing on the last night if the good manages to kill an evil player.

@@57thorns Also, Ben's argument for letting the evil team win in the end is that "Another Demon would've killed a good player and won". But that same thing would happen in a 2v2 scenario if they didn't kill. Unless the Demon somehow accidentally kills his own minion, good would lose then as well. But he argues that he would've killed a Legion. Killing a Legion every night is sort of the point of a Legion game. If you have to kill more than 1 good at night in a Legion game to keep it balanced, evil played poorly, surely?

@@RavenGlenn By the same logic, going to sleep without executing puts good in a losing situation. If a night happened with two evil demons and two good players, a demon killing a good player also guarantees an evil win. So no matter what the good team did, the storyteller could hand the game to evil on the last night. The other significant storyteller decision that isn't being discussed happened on the previous night. The night started with three good players and two demons, and the storytellers decided to kill a good player. Going into the day 2v2 instead of 1 evil vs 3 good made it impossible for good to force a win-. No matter what, the storyteller was sure to have the option to make evil win. Overall, it felt really wrong that the storytellers even considered giving the game to evil. If they did, then an accurate description of the game would have been: "The game was six evil legion against four good townsfolk. Tactically, it was a ridiculous game, which is always true with these guys. But, really, Dom nails it on the head at the end. Luke has to realize that he's never getting Adam and Sully divorced, and has to make a world where it's Luke, Laurie, Adam, and Dom are the "good" guys. It's not a convincing world, because Adam's empath numbers make absolutely no sense, but he has to target Dom (or Tempest) to accidentally join Legion. And he has to do it solo, which is incredibly hard, because anytime someone else speaks up to agree with Luke it hurts him.

This would have been a great episode to have an edit of just one of the good players view just to see if we the viewers could have figured it out the same if we only saw their interactions. 2. I would have loved to see/hear more of Carley's analysis on peoples plays/gambits, to see if she would have done something different, or why she felt that was a good/not good play. 3. The final night had to be no deaths, it shouldn't have been an Evil win since they were not even able to get 1 good person executed, also would of meant that in a Legion game if the town gets whittled down to 2 legion vs 2 good, then good would auto lose if you go by the assumption that the demon would kill in the night. *edited Carley's name spelt it wrong initially...sorry Carley.

The storytellers' zeal to balance the game meant they basically joined the evil team when good was playing so well. The storyteller needs to have some ability to influence the game. The format just doesn't work without that. It's an issue of a storyteller being able to identify how to make the game fun for both sides without blatantly cheating one team out of a win. It's not a game design issue, it's one player not playing their role correctly... the storyteller. This is something every player deals with to some extent. After all, if every good player honestly and openly announces publicly all information they receive, it's nearly impossible for evil to win (with obvious exceptions based on roles that change win conditions for one or both sides), because that immediately outs the identity of every evil player, and a load of other information as well. In order to prevent this solved gamestate from occurring, people simply buy into the idea of hiding information as a gameplay mechanic. It's a sacrifice we make in order to allow a game to take place.

Deserved may be the wrong word for it, but there's definitely an argument to be made that the goodies killing with four alive was, at best, very careless. Here are the three scenarios those players could have found themselves in: Demon is Lil' Monsta, ST is obliged to kill at night, good loses. Demon is Vortox, evil kills at night, good loses. Demon is Legion, ST may kill at night, good very well might lose. Those are not good odds and therefore the execution was risky as hell.

Whether good makes an optimal call or not, is not really something (I feel at least) is worth them losing the game over. Which is essentially what almost happened. Sorry, but in the context of a legion game, where the only tangible good thing legion did was 'get the good players to vote off another legion player on final four'. Isn't exactly game winning. Imo. @@bennburns I appreciate you taking the time to respond. You're absolutely right that this is an enormous and complicated game, and more experience-demanding scripts just amplify this. I think you are an excellent story teller who makes extremely competent decisions on the fly, but I also think that one was a minor mistake. By this point, Dom, Adam, Sully, and Tempest had correctly concluded that the demon was Legion, not Lil Monsta. A Vortox was also impossible. At 2:35:25, it was reasoned that a good player should be killed because that is what an evil player would do if they were the ones to choose. That logic would still have killed the good team if they had passed with 4 players left. Does that not suggest that it's the story-tellers' decision-making that needed to adjust? Should the players have just hoped you not use the same logic that you expressed in this video? Perhaps saying that it's "the bottom line" was too strong language, but it seemed to me that that is where the no-win situation originated. Such a fun game! Love watching this series, it really brightens my day. 😊 Also awesome to see new players Pete & Tempest ! And of course, the one & only Carley as a storyteller. She's an expert player so it's really cool to see her as a storyteller on the NRB series. It's really sad to hear about the complaints people have about the series re the storyteller decisions, and I just wanted to say a massive thank you to Ben, Carley & Tom for being amazing storytellers. You make some really tough calls in the game & it always results in entertaining results. Major thank you to you all. 🙌

The one flaw I found with this script when playing it through. Two of the Demons are under the control of the STs and not the Evil team. I much prefer games where the Storyteller does setup but it's then up to the players to decide who dies and who's info is manipulated. I feel like, unless it's a Vortox, the ST has too much control of the outcome of the game.

To clarify for Ben, when they know it's legion on final 4 and two good players alive and 2 legion, it is expected of the good team they should choose not to execute. The STers will then kill the legion they believe is most suspicious leaving 2 good players and the least suspicious legion in final 3. It's difficult for less experienced players though, when killing off a demon is the wrong decision to make. I'm glad they took it to final day, but with experienced players, I declare an evil win when they execute on final 4 in legion.

I don't think the script is the problem. I think Legion is. If the story tellers choose so, the evil team can be unbeatable because the good team has to kill more players than the evil team. In this game the good team barely made a mistake and only executed evil players and it still came down to a decision by the story tellers. I think Legion is just unbalanced
@lordhawkeye
@lordhawkeye 2 жыл бұрын
@@peteratkinson8787 How would anyone know that? In a Legion game the Storyteller is controlling the deaths, they choose if a death will occur at night and to whom. To do nothing and hope the ST's will choose to both kill at night and choose Evil when nothing in the rules states that is the expected outcome is a flawed assumption. And it takes player agency away. Why punish good play by rewarding poor play? The only Town deaths were from the ST's and Town only executed Legion members. To say Evil deserved the win with that kind of performance when the ST's were doing all the work to keep Evil in it is a mistake.

I don't know why Ben suggested in the beginning that they could only kill once per night when giving Gossip as a bluff. The reason Legion says "might die" is because EACH Legion in play has that ability. The number of deaths the story teller can cause each night is between 0 and the number of living Legions. So, if you want to simulate a different demon, or simulate a Godfather kill after an outsider execution, or back up a Gossip bluff, you totally can. It's one of those things you shouldn't do often, but if you can help sell an evil bluff if evil is having a hard time, go for it.
@JackArcherX
@JackArcherX 2 жыл бұрын
It was 100% the correct choice to allow that final day to play out. This is, by far, the most emotionally fulfilling episode in the entire series just from that moment of pure sync between Adam and Sully. Giving the win to evil would've been a mistake, as, honestly, while Legion were able to keep the game running under the fear of a Lil Monsta, they didn't manage to turn any good players against each other.
@RavenGlenn
@RavenGlenn 2 жыл бұрын
While this is trueish(Adam suspected Dom was a baddy about 3/4ths of the way through the game), you could also make the argument that the good team pretty much never figured anything out. They still thought it could be a lil monsta game until the final day when nobody died. They were completely guessing at who was good and who wasn't and nobody had any concrete ideas. As a result, the last day came to where there were two good guys and one bad guy left on the final night. In every other game of Blood on the Clocktower, the bad guys win in that scenario unless there is some way to block a kill. By choose to not kill anyone, the game-runners took the earned victory from the bad team and gave it to the good team. Having a good player die in a 2-1 night is the standard and thus, not a choice. The choice was choosing to give the game to the good guys while having the ability to go: "Well, we COULD have let the bad guys win so....it's sort of a tie but not really". That's just taking the easy route to hopefully spare them the comment flames. I totally understand why they made that choice. I just feel like it was the wrong one to make. But in their shoes, who knows. I may have chosen the same as them. So I'm not angry or anything about it. It's just a shame that now this one forever has an asterisk next to that win. Because they didn't REALLY win.
@donathos
@donathos 2 жыл бұрын
@@RavenGlenn No, they REALLY did win, no asterisk needed. Legion doesn't have to kill; that's a storyteller decision, and a literal (as in written text) part of the game, so when you say that killing a Good team member in that situation is "the standard and thus, not a choice," you're mistaken. It is a choice. It's the choice Carley advocated for, the choice most in the comments support, and by virtue of the fact that Evil failed to get any Good players executed throughout the game, the correct choice.

@EdMaher90
@EdMaher90 2 жыл бұрын
The only counter point I would make is that the good team's win condition is generally "kill the demon", and a legion game it's "kill all the demons". Evil didn't get a lot of good players out, but good needs to force executions through as well, and they let too many rounds go by until they were in a spot where they couldn't win without the storytellers handing them a free shot. Good really should have heeded Ben's advice at 4 living players and not killed Brooke, which probably would have lead Ben to kill Luke and let Brooke and Adam duke it out over Sully's vote. Forcing the count to 3 players when they didn't know how many evil were left is a misplay that should probably in most cases get evil the win. I think if they're not playing for content, Ben gives evil the win here most times
@bennburns
@bennburns 2 жыл бұрын
@renevarr
@renevarr 2 жыл бұрын
@@bennburns new to this game so I may be misunderstanding some rules, but with 2 good players and 2 legion alive at that point isn't there basically no way for the good team to win without the storytellers helping? Because if they don't kill then the storytellers would either not kill anyone (changes literally nothing), kill one of the good team (evil wins automatically), or kill one of the evil team (already making that decision to let the good team have a chance even though 2 out of 3 options let evil win), overall it feels a bit like the endgame for a legion is slightly unfair for the good team considering how little the evil team actually managed to do this game
@bennburns
@bennburns 2 жыл бұрын
@@renevarr If you're referring to this specific game then yes, that's the exact three things that could have happened on that day. Legion is supposed to be unfair on the good team, at least to some degree. It's a very advanced character to come up against and it's supposed to be like playing on 'expert mode'. The good team did very well this game and were on top of things for about half of the game. However, I'm not sure why you think the endgame was unfair on the good team. Their best strategy would have been to do nothing and see who dies. That's hardly unfair. If anything, it's the opposite. It's a very easy decision to make.
