It was such a tender moment to see your hand outstretched saying goodbye to the home you brought your daughter into and then see you pan over and be able to see her toddling down the hall. I’m a mom, so I know I’m emotional now by nature, so that made me teary eyed! Congratulations on the move (and the beautiful family!)

Its totally acceptable for you to feel connected to that home, it isn't superficial to care. And you aren't letting that sadness or connection to keep you from what you want to do. You don't have to police your emotions! Its healthy to admit to human feelings.

I have had the same moving experience twice in Notting Hill. This past Dec, I was 34 weeks pregnant and we moved a 10 minute walk away... the movers did not help us unpack either. They eventually told us they don’t get paid much which is terrible (the moving company takes a huge cut leaving little for the movers). It definitely wasn’t ideal but I later had a wonderful lady come in to help me purge and organise and lift heavier items! You guys were definitely super efficient in getting it all done. Kudos! And now we know to not pay the premium for the unpacking service 🤦🏽♀️

I never understand why your videos get so much hate about every little decision you make.. Renting instead of buying is a very sound choice. Those nice apartments cost so much that the monthly mortgage payments are going to be massive, probably more than if you just rent the place! Moreover, not everyone likes to spend their entire lives in the same house! My husband and I have been together for over 7 years and we moved twice across continents, and in total 7 times between different homes. We are not planning on buying anytime soon because we like moving and experiencing new apartments/houses and getting to know new areas in London. Besides, as years pass your needs change so it doesn't make sense to lock yourself in one place. Flexibility = less stress, for us at least. I swear some people just want others to buy homes to get them into debt lol. Paying 3.5% deposit on a place and then some monthly payments for 25-35 years barely qualifies as "buying"...
@claudiadgusmao6 жыл бұрын
Sabina Talibzade I agree with you for the most part, but the benefit of buying is that after those 20/25/30 years your house is paid off and you don't have to worry about rent or payments anymore. I guess if you know you want to stay somewhere it is worth it.
@sabinatalibzade9296 жыл бұрын
Cláudia Gusmão sure, but that’s only for those who know they will want to stay in the same place for all those decades. Plus, you may not be able to buy a place you really want straight away, so lots of people end up buying a place for a few years and then reselling to upgrade.. too much fuss imo and benefits are not even that much greater than from just renting a place except for you’re not at risk if the market crashes. A lot of people don’t want that and so getting lynched about a personal choice that’s just so so easy to understand is really unfair!
@claudiadgusmao6 жыл бұрын
Sabina Talibzade yes, sure! As I said, I agree with your comment and I'm not criticising Mimi at all, I was just mentioning when and why it would be worth it to buy :)
@sabinatalibzade9296 жыл бұрын
Cláudia Gusmão yeah haha I was just expanding on my point, I totally agree with what you’re saying too! 😊
@BlackThorndRose6 жыл бұрын
Agreed 100%! First of all, it’s her choice (and Alex’s) how they choose to live. They’re happy, successful, have an amazing family, and they live a beautiful life. Why is it even someone else’s business if they choose to rent or buy? It’s not. I’m a loan officer in the states, I do mortgages for a living, but I don’t tell people they need to buy. Also, who knows exactly what’s going in another country with the housing, the economy, etc. People love to rain on other people’s parades...I’m sorry but that’s just so ridiculous.

Really enjoyed watching this blog. I am someone who moves a lot as I love the experience of new places, new homes and new adventures. So a mortgage would be wasted on me too right now. I hope you complained about the movers. I find I have to almost be bossy to get them to do a half decent job. The one time I left movers to it, they dumped all the boxes in the wrong rooms and left early. Anyway I hope you are all happy in your new apartment!

I would definitely call and talk to the owner to pay a lower rate and let them know their "worker" was not representing their company in their best interest. I hope you paid with a credit card and you can refuse payment and renegotiate a slow-as-mud-pack-and-move-rate without premium unpacking costs. I would be absolutely livid. I get very upset when people aren't honorable and follow through with what was negotiated ahead of time. But I guess there are a lot of dishonorable people in the world that love to cheat and take advantage of others. Hopefully it was just a bad employee and not the normal company policy to purposefully do a bait and switch to rip people off. I'm so sorry they made your moving experience more stressful and exhausting than it should have been.

EEN63 you’re the type of clients movers don’t want

+Zara Hazan I have owned my own company since the mid 1990s, and you better believe I'd want to know if some yahoo, slacker employee was tarnishing my good reputation. Legitimate, reputable business people don't try to rip off their customers and take great pride in their products/services. When you own your own business your reputation is EVERYTHING! This situation needs to be brought to the owner's attention. Just as if Mimi and Alex had some yahoo, slacker causing mayhem with their customers, you better believe they'd want to know, so they could correct the problem before it harmed their reputation and ultimately their bottom line. I'm assuming by your comment you're not a business owner or perhaps business ethics and personal integrity might not be very high on your list of qualities you deem important. Best of luck to you.

That rare well-written comment on youtube. Nice to see.
@adastraperaspera34876 жыл бұрын
EEN63 “cheating and taking advantage of others” includes companies and hard-working businesses like yours and like Mimi’s. No businesses want charge-backs on their merchant accounts just because one person was misrepresenting the company. If you have a problem with your bill don’t call your credit card like a coward, call the company to voice your concern. You can even call while you are getting the service. Do your due-diligence is what I’m saying. No company is perfect, leave room for human errors. That’s ethics too.
@EEN636 жыл бұрын
Zara Hazan did you fail to read the first sentence? Here's a little refresher for the reading and/or comprehension impaired: "I would definitely call and talk to the owner to pay a lower rate and let them know their "worker" was not representing their company in their best interest." What is it about call the owner to try and rectify this unfortunate and unpleasant situation do you not understand? As an additional option, I was hoping they paid with a credit card IN CASE the chat with the owner was not satisfactory. They would still have some recourse from being ripped off. If you recall, the negotiation was for X, Y and Z. They only received X and Y (and here's the issue) but PAID PREMIUM PRICES IN FULL for X, Y AND Z. The moving company needs to rectify what they charged Alex and Mimi for Z... otherwise we call this cheating, stealing, misrepresentation, bad business ethics, being ripped off, being taken advantaged of, etc., etc., etc. What I find most disconcerting is how in the world you jumped to such a host of conclusions that are just ridiculous. Such as, companies like mine and Mimi's are "cheating and taking advantage of others". That's quite a stretch based on what exactly? Or that I'm a coward by suggesting they do what they can to make things fair and right? So the fact that I believe in standing up for what's right, as well as fair and honest business practices makes me a coward? I seriously don't get you. And how did you come to the inane conclusion that I'm the type of client movers don't want? That's quite an uninformed and illogical leap based on my comment. You jump to a lot of very weird and incorrect assumptions, my dear. Having due diligence is NOT what you're saying... a stream of defamatory comments is what you've actually said! Perhaps you're just having a really, REALLY bad day? Once again, best of luck to you.

It's so interesting that you talk about the less than ideal service you got. My aunt and uncle moved to the UK and got renovations done on their home: they also experienced very slow, very half-assed service. There shouldn't have to be any convincing the people you're paying to do the job they were initially paid for (especially when you pay such a high price for premium service). Sorry this happened to you. I hope the rest of settling in the new home went okay. Always enjoy watching your videos :)

My family is potentially facing a very big move right now (across seas!) and your message came at the perfect time. I have felt very depressed towards the idea of moving my family so far. But you and Alex are right, we can’t be so attached to a physical place that we remain stagnant. We need to be more fluid and it would be a good message for my children to learn as well. Its tough, but we can do it!

We also move a lot in Japan!! And the good thing is u can store all your clothes and small things in plastic boxes. So you can move it as they are. You don’t need to take everything out, and then to put in. And it saves you a huge amount of time. And there is no clothes on the floor, so no stress! And the plastic boxes are comfortable to use every day and clean. We usually store them in a closet, so they never show up.

Also for any future moves or anyone who’s moving soon I really recommend renting crates rather than buying cardboard boxes! You rent them by the week (usually it costs around a £1 per crate per week) and they come in different sizes to fit whatever stuff you have and after the week is done (or earlier if you want to) the company just comes and takes them away for free! It’s way cheaper and you don’t have to worry about what to do with your cardboard boxes 😊 They’re also really easy to open and close and they have lids that clip into place and plus they stack nicely!
