The dust also didn't settle by itself during something like the Industrial Revolution. Massive social upheaval was necessary to even out the values of the few and the many, the narrow and the holistic, to somewhat approaching a stalemate (which wouldn't be enjoyed too much by the generation who fought for it). You are in the here and the now, not 20 years in the future. You have a stake in this too, whatever your job is.

They're not in denial at all. So many different unions related to film struck across the board to force their companies into contracts not to use AI, because they knew this kind of tech was in the works. There might be an opening for some Indy film makers to catch up using AI, but they'd be alienating themselves from any jobs with major film companies if they did so, so they'd have to figure out all their own advertising/distribution/whatever else if they go that route. I think social media creators who want to make something but aren't super serious about it will be the ones to benefit from this the most.

God bless open source. Progress would be so seriously stuck, if companies were the only ones able to produce any of this. They'd very slowly roll in new ideas, as there's nothing additional to gain in speeding up progress. Meanwhile with open source projects, it's up to the individuals interests to find new methods, not hindered by profit.

Welp as expected since we saw the first video gens.. It was garbage just like crayon or dall e was.. Until it started winning art competitions VS humans 6 months later.. Video is a bit trickier of course but the speed of improvement is just mind boggling.. In a year time i think we'll start having gens that will be commercially viable, just like images right now. (cos let's be honest, even pika 1.0 is just mostly a toy for the time being)

The work required to steer the AI would just be infinitely better used to learn to animate yourself and actually create real art with intention that also doens't look like uncanny nightmare fuel. Just like cheap asset flips are the red flag of a game being low quality, so will AI assets be frowned upon in a few years.

Whether we want it or not, eventually we'll have real-time generated movies. Possibilities are endless. New period accurate movies starring across and actresses who have passed away long ago, biopics starring the actual people, Indiana Jones starring Tom selleck, change the ending/setting/whatever on existing movies... There should be a cutoff point though, up to date X all movies are considered real and after that possibly generated.

Thats fucking horrible. I dont think it will be good, but good enough and easy enough that many would accept and others be forced to be displace by it. Right now we live in world where, due to such endless access to things, we can make highly curated lists of books, films and games thar could last us our life time. All meaningfully crafted and present things we had not know before. To have the collective data of humanity to be digested into palatable sludge for "our tastes" means not developing them... Like a child's tongue never learning to enjoy any taste other than sweet, and it becoming the norm. Not just for art, but for reality itself, all aspects of thinking that shall be dienssentivized by AI. Its scary.
