You fall for a while into the ground, hitting your body on every bump and ridge along your journey through the Earth. After a while you hit the bottom of the newly sprouted ravine, you have fallen unconscious by this time. You wake up. You don't know how much time has passed or where you are. It's a miracle you're still alive, but your limbs are greatly aching from the fall, limiting your ability to move. You clumsily struggle to stand up, but after some more wobbliness and pain you get back on your two feet. You look for anything to use as a light source, a torch, a lamp, even a light switch, but there is nothing. Nothing to brighten up your day again. Nothing that can give you hope again. You call for help but no one is with you, this place that you're in is completely silent, devoid of any life. As your eyes adjust to the pitch black void that fills the room, you realise you're in a lab of some sort, with many pipes, walls and containers. The walls are also coloured a dull blue. "What could this be?" You think. You think for a while, it's been half an hour now, or at least that's what it seems like. It would be a good idea to attempt to find some kind of exit to escape this labyrinth. So that's what you decide to do. After much snooping and a pile of anxiety, you find it, a hatch leading to the surface, the one piece of hope that will let you finally claim victory. It's too high to reach with anything, no amount of stacking objects could ever let you leave. However, as of right now, this isn't the biggest problem you need to face. "Is ANYONE there? Please help, please help" You repeatedly exclaim, hoping your calls will be heard by SOMEONE and that by some miracle you would rise back to the above ground. Suddenly then, a bright flash lights the whole room, you put your arms against your face as you are blinded by the whiteness within. As your vision fades back, and the flash settles down, you see a figure standing in front of you, levitating in the air. You think your calls may have been heard by the angels. He wears slick long red overalls over his legs and torso, with navy blue sleeves on his arms, he has a grinning face with a smug look, and his hair is combed in a familiar way. You know realise who you are facing, who that one last obstacle blocking your path is, you realise this is the real end of your journey, that this battle will test your strength and perseverance. This battle will tell who is truly Number One. "I AM NUMBER ONE" You shout one last time at the final boss. "No," Robbie Rotten says, his 3 clones becoming more and more apparent and opaque by his side. "WE Are Number One" The final test begins, this is the end.

In Mother 3 it is actually possible to save someone from a fatal blow, because of the way health is designed, it's more like a wheel that goes down rather than actual numbers. The wheel actually goes down slowly. (speed depends on how much damage has been taken) If you heal them before the health goes down to 0 on the wheel, you can save them from what would kill them. tl;dr unintentional design makes fun game more fun
