I hunger and thirst after righteousness! I have a number of chronic illnesses and over the years have become fairly disabled. When I found myself unable to work I was not fun to be around then midway through the Book of Mormon CFM year something clicked and CFM study became my life. I am now grateful for my disability as it allows me to study way more than I ever would have without it. I’m able to summarise many of the online presentations each week so that those that don’t have the time to watch can read my summaries and choose which one best suits their needs and I am blessed to be called as the Adult Sunday School teacher, so my obsession is really being put to good use!! THANKYOU for giving me something extra to study each week

I’m excited to study the New Testament. As a convert the bible was the only scripture I had and learned from as a child. The New Testament is the foundation of my testimony of Jesus Christ.

37:50 “I don't want to believe things that aren’t true….I’m on a quest for ultimate truth….and I must know.” I want to listen to this again and take notes. "Relentlessly seek the truth" made me think of Abraham 1:2. Thanks so much to everyone who made this available! 🙌🏼

This is so wonderful!! When Steve said that the scriptures are" inexhaustibly interesting" he captured in a few words what I feel in my heart!!

I felt that way too and here at the end where they were talking about God's love for you his love never fails you just can't feel it because the spirit can't communicate it to you! I think about people who want to take their lives because they can't feel the spirit and I wish there was some way they could have heard this tonight!

I have my scriptures from when I was baptized at 8 years old. That was almost 40 years ago. Under the first "Israel" when Jacob's name changed, there is a footnote that reads "let God prevail." Exciting to see that it was in my treasured set of scriptures all along.

My husband and I were CSMs at Lyman Lake Camp when we learned at church on a Sunday that Brother Harper would be speaking later that evening at the meetinghouse. It was a two hour drive each way from the camp to church and back. It was not a difficult decision to make the trip again to be a part of that fireside! Thanks for your wonderful insights today.

The value of trying to interpret and understand by intense study must be higher than we would expect. God could simply have the scriptures updated to our modern dialogue and vocabulary. It reminds of Mr. Miyagi teaching Daniel, he could have just showed him how to block, but then Daniel would have missed out on what would give him added strength, through the process that seemed meaningless.

Decades ago, I deeply felt the call to become a lifelong seeker, and later I learned about Quidditch! The position makes a great analogy - you'll never catch the golden snitch just waiting for it to come to you.

Well, Googling something for ourselves and putting two days into learning at least that much by doing those things is being more responsible for our own learning than doing less than that :) It counts! But perhaps most of the really important things in life will take more than that. That said, they say statistically that while 10,000 hours at something could make you a crazy good expert at something, statistically the greatest gains at a time come during the first 20 hours spent on something, and if you have read 5-10 books on a topic you could be considered a basic expert.

Thank you for bringing to my attention, the laziness of my prayers. At times I felt that my prayers did not even reach the ceiling, and now I know why! I have a responsibility to keep in contact with my Heavenly Father in a way that I can return and Report that I too may better hear Him.

Are their ones that are more specifically for teens? So that it's just kinda fun to go through all the come follow me's for them. More like a seminary with videos and looking into the camera as if they are looking into their eyes, etc.

I have a weird question! 11:39 Our (I actually don't remember his current title, but the guy who presides over Sacrament Meeting) likes to begin Fast and Testimony meetings by asking everyone to keep their testimonies "Christ-centered" and for some reason this drives me crazy. None of the most moving, beautiful testimonies I've heard have been about Christ, they've been about personal struggles, or experiences, or other firmly-held beliefs. Why does he do this? Shouldn't we listen to the Spirit and talk about what we're prompted to?

How do you do this when you don’t have anyone to study with and away to bounce of ideas and thoughts off with someone? I learn more with someone else. I don’t have anyone to help me get more out of learning scriptures and gospel principles with. I also suffer from an autoimmune disease which makes retention difficult for me. I feel spiritually I am at a kindergarten level.
@lilianpoulsen8394

Don’t give up! Kindergarten children are pure before God. Your struggles with memory or reading are not sins! So be kind to yourself. You have the desire to learn and understand the scriptures, which is a great thing.! Your❤ is in the right place, so don’t give up! Please don’t compare yourself to others, Jesus doesn’t do that. He knows your struggles and 😊all your righteous desires. If you have need to repent of something, pray for strength to do so and do it. Repentance is a great gift Christ gave us by his suffering in his infinite atonement. Pray daily that the Holy Ghost will help you understand the scriptures and find peace in them. Be patient. Resist the temptation of putting yourself down. None of us are perfect, but we are beloved children of God. I pray you will find the way to make a friend near you. I assume that having an autoimmune disease may make it precarious to go to church… I’ll pray for you!

I feel the same way. There are times when listening to this podcast, the Holy Ghost enlightens my mind and I understand. Then I would try to talk to someone about it and they just look at me like 🤷‍♀️. At first it was frustrating. Answer to my question was 1. The Holy Ghost is the greatest teacher. 2. Writing down the teachings of the Holy Ghost has expanded and expounded my testimony to a level I didn’t even imagine possible to have. As for retaining the teachings, The Holy Ghost also will bring to your remembrance the learning you made at the time it is most needed. All I can say we all learn at different levels. Have patience but don’t stop seeking. 😊

Ditto with me, both alone and on medical disability. I asked a friend a couple years ago to be a scripture buddy by email. It has worked amazingly well. We both have reference books (Valletta and Ridges) that help us. We both keep a scripture journal. I journal my daily thoughts ❤️. This journal is very precious to me!!! I hope that you can find a study process that works for you! Hugs!

Aren’t we all fortunate that we have so many available resources from which we can learn from when we are isolated? I for one love study even though I can’t retain well, so I have notebooks of notes. I love referring to these notes and working on a way to organizing them for future reference. I’ve been doin this for many years and never tire of these podcasts! I’m grateful there are so many people willing to do this work and share it for our benefit.

Hank and John, I am not someone who loves going online and leaving negative critical comments shielded by the net but ... as I have listened to the last few episodes of your podcast something is really bothering me. I feel so strongly about it that I'm commenting. It made me very uncomfortable when time after time you talked about Peter's "betrayal" of Christ. As I read the account Peter never betrayed Christ. He denied Knowing the Savior and being one of his company but he never denied that Jesus was the Christ. I feel we need to be careful with that word. No doubt Peter wished he had been braver and defended the Savior to the people he was surrounded by. That would make me weep too if I was the senior apostle but Jesus needed Peter. The world needed Peter! A dead Peter was no good to him and surely that is what would have happened had Peter spoken up in the midst of such an unfriendly crowd. Now you've also been pretty rough on the Eleven and some of the other disciples because they "didn't get it"-meaning that Christ lived again and was resurrected. Would you have "gotten it"? Nothing Like That Had EVER Happened before in the whole history of the world! Yes, we have Lazarus raised from the dead by ... Christ. No one was there with the priesthood power to perform that miracle for Jesus. He was locked up & sealed behind a 1200lb stone! What if someone came up to you and said, "Did you hear Hank talking about this new way of traveling he's using? He just slices the air, disappears and shows up in Salt Lake?" He what? Nobody can do that! It's impossible! Then there's a slice in the air and Hank steps out into your office. Whoa!!! You really can do that?! No one has Ever done that before! Please explain again. So maybe a little more compassion for Peter and his fellow disciples. God bless them for growing precept by precept ... Just like we try to do. I do LOVE your podcast!!!
