Hey FAM a few of you were asking about the book I mentioned at the beginning of this video. It's called Almond and I was inspired to read it when I saw how much RM and SUGA enjoyed it on In the Soop. When I saw the name of this song it immediately reminded me of this book because of the themes the storyline centers on. Here is an amazon link for this book if you want to check it out and read it for yourself - amzn.to/43ZREh8 - I highly recommend it 🤓

The MV, Lyrics and Song in general is a masterpiece. Yoongi over did himself on this album. Amygdala sums up and very on point downplayed of how dark and nasty our inner battles can be. This song hit so hard to the core of every being who has been in that dark path. Yoongi is very brave to put this out there. Our trauma is a never ending loop and inception of nightmare we are trying very hard to escape to and him being able to interpret on point really resonates to everyone. This hit so hard. 😢

Totally agree. I felt like finally the depths of the struggle that words really can’t describe have been captured. I will show this to anyone trying to understand what it is like to struggle with depression. Only someone who has been there could have done this. Having survived I only wanted something more clear to say hang on. We know he got help and survived. Knowing that people have survived helped me to hang on one more day when I needed to.

He tried to save himself and couldn't. This is what the final sequence shows. Back then (delivery boy Yoongi looks younger) he couldn't, and it's how AgustD - full of anger - was born. But also, it's also a reminder that you can't really escape your memories and past (I think the room is his Amygdala). Yesterday, during R-Chwita, Yoongi mentioned that this kind of thoughts come back cyclically. But at least for now, he's finally at peace. This whole last part is shown in Haegeum, imo: not-scarred AgustD, free from his anger, manages to finally kill his scarred self. Who, though, laughed at his face before being shot, because he knows he will never be truly free. And the tuft of hair in the very last close up, when Yoongi is eating the noodles but raises his head, crosses his eye like the scar used to for the Mad King and the Cop. A foreshadowing that the thoughts can (and maybe will) come back again. It's heartbreaking.

Very true. Depression is something you can never fully get rid of. There are ways to cope, there are ways to heal, ways to make the impact less painful, but until your very last breath depression's still like a shadow behind you, just out of reach, threatening to kick in the door and pull you down into that empty darkness at any point in time. Because it knows it can, with you unable to do anything to stop it. So yes, the thoughts can come back, whenever they want, and you have no control over them. Depression is something that is uncontrollable by us.

Suga is the first to really touch on the subject, He is known to have had a lot of social anxiety and OCD and depression in the early parts of BTS when he first started he even sang about it in his mixtape Agust D The Last, this definitely represents his mental capacity at that moment of his life. Knowing that he talked about some touchy subjects that K-pop is not really doing not that I would consider this music to be K-pop .I think he is the type of artist that expresses his true inner thoughts and feelings and he writes it down and he sings and raps about it because that is the way he can get out that frustration or anxiety! He identifies and to get rid of it I think he wants us to know I am the same as I always have been but I am better now he’s gotten help he’s got medication‘s that help him! I believe that he’s in a better mental state now I think he has a grasp on his emotional and mental situation! And I pray that he will continue to mentally as well as physically be healthy as well as all of the members of BTS as they one by one enlist into the military! 💜🙏🏼

FYI "Amygdala" in Greek means "almonds". You can see Yoongi eating almonds sitting in front of the closed door or even holding them in his palm right after holding the pills. This symbolism is insane. It's like trying to eat up the cause of his fear. I have great respect for this artist. I hope he finds inner peace and never fall into darkness again. His art is impeccable and that shows a true Human with deep emotions! Respect! 💜
@WhatchaGot2Say Жыл бұрын
I noticed that too. Just like the book Almond. I think he drew inspiration from that book to express himself in this video and song.
@Karin_Allen Жыл бұрын
I have a different interpretation of the video from you guys. I'm not claiming mine is right because I really don't know, but here it is. I think when he gives himself that scar, it means he's tormenting himself by not being able to let go of the trauma behind that accident. So even though the scar shows the creation of Agust D, there's more to that persona than we ever knew. We thought the king of Daechwita symbolized anger at his haters, but it was mostly about his internal suffering - and we had no idea just how deeply he was suffering. Then in the scene where the younger version of Yoongi runs away from the bike and tries to open the door to free his internal self, he *can't* open the door (The video ends with Yoongi still trapped in that place of suffering). The whole bit about running away from the bike before he could have the accident is just a fantasy. He can't undo what's already happened, so he can't get that memory out of his head. It's stuck in his amygdala. But we know Yoongi has been through a lot of therapy and has found a lot of peace; so to me, this song represents memories of his worst times, not his present self. In the latest episode of Suchwita, RM told him that he'd become the most positive member of the group. That says tons about his current frame of mind.

It wasn't a prescription addiction. Yoongi went to the psychiatrist when he was 18, we can infer that he was medicated after that, which is why almonds and pills are also used interchangably, not just in reference to the book almond, but bcs it makes reference to the amygdala and its job its to regulate emotions, and when you're medicated for depression and different medications for mental health purposes its to regulate your emotions and responses.

I have diagnosed CPTSD and have been going to therapy for years now. I cannot tell you how much Yoongi’s music has helped me. When Agust D’s first mixtape came out, I related to it so much. All the anger, that was what I was dealing with at that time too. Now, fast forward to D-Day. Yoongi has done his healing and lives in the present, and that’s just about where I am at too. Yes, the trauma shows up sometimes but not as bad as before. It’s funny bc in therapy, you learn about the importance of the amygdala, so when I first saw the title of the song, I was amused. Then watching the documentary, his performance as well as the lyrics really hit me. And of course, now the mv. The way he portrays trauma and a separate personality that holds onto all of that, it’s so realistic. It really feels like they’re stuck in a room while the trauma plays over and over again. That personality isn’t you, but it is at the same time. It’s a very hurt and broken version of you. The self-harm, the emptiness, the fear. I am so thankful for his vulnerability here, because it’s a reminder that I’m not alone in these feelings.

I have just realised that I have slowly accepted it - that I’ve somehow started to accept myself too. Yoongi / Suga / Agust D is right in a sense that these things that makes us who we are - our emotions, fear, longing, vulnerability,heartbreaks ….. it will always stay with us. We might not be entirely free from it and THAT’S OKAY. You are not alone. Life doesn’t always have to make sense. The scenes for the mv was very stressful for him to film. I was surprised he put this into to mv as it may trigger some people who are going through this or have been the same things. He's very talented and I'm a very proud army opening up about health issues and struggles is not something many would put into music he is strong he is a very good person and role model and a great son and his parents are so proud of him they must of felt very sad when they heard the lyrics too. He's been through so much in his life sad you say we never know what is going on in someone's life as they are very private and they don't always want to share stuff with us. I love how he uses the lotus flower as a metaphor for his present self. Lotus flowers grow in mucky, muddy water, yet when it blooms, the flower is beautiful and unmarred by mud. It literally emerges beautiful from the mud. (Yoongi mentions "lotus flower" in D-Day and Amygdala) Now that we know the true meaning behind Agust D's scar... it made me look at Daechwita Agust D in a brand new light. For the first time I am truly seeing Yoongi in him: beyond the fictional storyline, he represents a part of Yoongi that was so mired in trauma, he hid behind his arrogance and madness. Someone on twitter pointed out that for all his bravado, King Agust D was alone and isolated. It's like he acted out on his madness to gain control over SOMETHING in his life. As though he wore his madness as a shield. The Rebel Agust D, for me, had the strongest conviction between right and wrong. And perhaps he represented that part of young Yoongi who had a plan and was determined to right the wrongs done to him. The Boss in Haegeum... he has a healed scar (King had a fresh wound). He's jaded and calculated, coolly operating covertly to still be in control. He seems more mature, but also ambitious and greedy for worldly things. The Thief Agust D has no scar at all. What struck me the most about him was he toes the gray area between good and evil. He killed someone, but he also took down the crooked detective and burned his dirty money. He also seemed the happiest. In a nutshell, the scar represents Yoongi's trauma. Now that we're in the last part of the trilogy, his wound has healed. Yoongi is an incredible storyteller who has woven layers upon layers of meaning into the AgustD series. You can look at his songs as social commentary and later discover a deeper, more personal significance in all the "cool stuff" he put into his work. You can also enjoy the Daechwita and Haegeum purely for their fictional storyline, because both have such interesting and enthralling stories! This is Min Yoongi, Suga, and Agust D in Chapter 2. Still not over for this very raw and honest MV. It takes a lot of courage and bravery for him to be able to share his vulnerable and painful past to us.. Amygdala is part of the brain that stores our emotional responses including fear, anxiety and aggresion. In this MV, it's not scripted at all. All scenes are part of his life and truly happened. The scar in his right eye represents his trauma and tragic past. He's been through a lot. I wish him nothing but happiness and love.

I can’t thank you enough for your kind words…I’m currently in South Korea and hadn’t been able to watch the video because they have restrictions on these types of videos so I was able to watch it through your reaction video and it hit me so hard and I found myself just crying…some of the scenes broke me because we know that this is Yoongi’s story but also I can relate on some level and I found myself just heartbroken for him and myself…and your words at the end were like a soothing balm…a reminder that I made it out and that I can continue to make it as long as I continue to to fight for myself so thank you for that gentle reminder and words of encouragement because they mean more to me than you’ll ever know. I pray that one day I get the chance to let BTS know that they’re music saved me. 💜

I don’t know if this has been said but when he runs to save “AgustD” is him trying to save himself from the depression (the rain). If you go back to The Last, he admitted to a psychologist he had attempted s*ic*de. He is constantly killing AgustD because he is trying to “kill” the negative aspect of him. And AgustD always smirks because “he knows” he’ll never go away. Yoongi also said we should see Daechwita, Haegeum and the Amygdala in that same order all together. Also, I think when he says 1st choice, 2nd choice 3rd choice; could mean the times he attempted to commit s*ic*de, because he includes the phrase “best choice”. While in a state of anguish, one could think that’s the most reasonable way out.
@kitsunerinkan8 ай бұрын
This is what I’ve always said. You seem him staring at someone on the floor, and he makes many references to attempts to “sleep” on bathroom floors. I’ve always interpreted that, along with the line where the doctor asks if he’s had thoughts of harming himself/taking his life, (something extremely taboo in Asia that…even my own doctor had trouble discussing with me…and just handed me MORE PILLS for???), as in he’s thought back to: “should I have tried that? Should I have done that? Should I have even made the choice to pursue my dreams?” He puts a lot of pressure on himself to create his art after all, and so maybe his first choice of following his dream…does he regret how it maybe triggered him to a further downward spiral, since his parents had to travel to Seoul to see a psychiatrist that asked if he’d had thoughts of harming himself before. (Where he answers, almost sounding bitter, and amused: “many times”) I would assume that he would have tried after he’d already gone to Seoul to start as a trainee, which is…a heartbreaking thought. To have you dream so close and then to also be so conflicted.

This is definitely a sad song as Yoongi have said. We were in Yoongi's mind while watching this. I respect him more and so proud of him sharing this to us. These are all of his memories and all the symbolism in it made me more understand and felt Yoongi's real pain. I dived deep into this mv just to understand the connection from Daechwita and Haegeum. (cause this is Agust D Trilogy) I'll just share here what I have posted at Jose's channel. You all know Jose right FAM? It was a long one actually. But it just all my interpretations. I just wanna share my thoughts cause this is so deep. Here goes FAM: What I interpreted from the last part is I think the past Yoongi who was trying to save the scarred Agust D that was not saved...I think it's because that's his old memories, unfortunately the sad and painful ones stored into his brain that present Yoongi is trying to erase or escape from. But since it is his memories, we really can't erase or escape from it however we tried to. That's why present Yoongi...our Yoongi gave up from reaching to the door cause memories is something we can't just escape from. That's why we see the present image of Yoongi trapped in that room representing his amygdala with the scar on his face still. It only means that even if he's a new happy person now...he still have all those scars he experienced in his life. Yoongi was right, this is definitely the last chapter of Agust D. Agust D was his alter ego that was angry to the world and had lots of struggles in life. He said in his several interviews that Agust D is dead now. He's now SUGA . But the very sad part for this whole storyline for me....from Agust D, D2 and D-Day songs, Yoongi all tried to kill Agust D (which he did in Haegeum), but still Agust D remained in his memories. So he still remembers the pain he's gone through from time to time. Symbolisms: the dark room: Yoongi's Amygdala Scar: Yoongi's pain from the past and present Rider Yoongi: Represent himself from the past Rider Yoongi who tried to save the trapped Yoongi: Represents our present Yoongi. Scarface Yoongi: Represents our present Yoongi which still have the scar on his face. That's my take away FAM. Sorry for this very long comment. I just wanna express what Yoongi have shared with the world and for trusting us ARMY. I love and respect this man more deeply for his bravery.

I am so freakin' proud of Yoongi, this was so brave and heart wrenchingly painful. They say it's always darkest before the dawn and this was certainly dark, but we know he made it through that time, he's still with us, thank God. I believe Bangtan saved him and gave him a goal, reasons to live and then the true ARMY proved to him it was all worthwhile.

Just another reason to love him and honestly BTS as a whole. This song hit me in my soul for 2 reasons. 1) We all have pain and strife in our lives and we all have our own AMYGDALA. It's in all of us, which is why this is so powerful. 2) Yoongi has a way of telling a story that conveys directly to you and basically says "I know your pain, I see your pain, and because I have also struggled so much, I share your pain". I didn't mean to cry.. but... my soul could not help reaching out to his words and embracing them.

I cried when I watched the mv… Just wanted to give him a hug… people always say things happen for a reason and what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger… when you don’t experience the pain that is all you can say… but we can never feel the pain unless we experience it ourselves…to the person going through the hurt and pain and suffering those words might sound empty… because no amount of comforting words can replace the painful experience… 😢💜

The first album I got in the mail had images from the scooter and the basketball court, and at the time, I just guessed it was snapshots of his past. But the mv put it all together. Did you notice how he's just sitting on the basketball court after his accident? Bc the accident destroyed his chances of playing basketball on any serious level. 😢 This video and the song have given me a much deeper understanding and love of Yoongi than I imagined possible. He's already my bias (OT7 all the way!) bc we share so many sorts of trauma. But this.... Crystallized that for me. He's the strongest person I know. I look up to him so much, in spite of being older than him. Bc he's fought so hard to heal and he's an inspiration to me. He has my heart.

❣️Agust’D did this always confronting himself, inner thoughts and feelings, since the very beginning. If you listen or rather read lyrics to songs like Nevermind, or Tomorrow, some part of writing was even pre-debut, and especially songs like The Last from his first mixtape Agust’D. Also So Far Away. Also in his song as Suga First Love he mentions the scooter accident where he injured his shoulder. I suggest you listen or if you have relisten to this as well as other of his songs. But he’s always confronting himself. Many not only same themes being repeated but even same lyrics, Since the first mixtape Agust’D was the first time he really went even deeper, talking about many things that is actually forbidden to in Korean society at least in past, let alone thought or attempting suicide, he put it all out there, back then, even literally breaking down in tears while recording. Don’t know if this is end of Agust’D, but end of being haunted by his past and questioning himself about staying on right paths avoiding possible corruption that at times comes with success. But I believe Agust’D will always be needed because Yoongi even said himself way back, somebody needs to speak up about injustices in the world!

Yeah, I definitely teared up too. It was so genuinely raw, honest and personal and I feel honored that he chose to share his struggles with us. Unfortunately, even though we of course have our own very unique experiences and scars, I can absolutely relate to the inner battle against fear and darkness. Sadly I think we all can at some level which just serves to strenghten the bond between ARMY and BTS. This whole trilogy is nothing short of a masterpiece! 💜

What hits me hard is that it's always been Yoongi who never tried to reveal much about himself. And now...this. I think that the episodes on Suchwita either reflected the video he had already made (thus the lyrics were written, plans are being made) or gave himself permission to reveal all. I've always felt that Yoongi lives as a "speak softly and carry a big stick" kind of guy - He's always been relatively quiet but when he speaks you can believe every single syllable. Just my opinion but I think Yoongi is the surprise break out of the 7 soloists. It's not just the surprise of the depth of his talent - it's the variety, it's the lyrics, it's the trust he has in the fans to finally, really know him. It's like you and me revealing all our personal history, including the mistakes, including the "I was only putting on a happy face because this is what was really going on". What I'm grateful for is that in this time of revelations, Yoongi is extending so much to others - Jimin especially, but also to every one of those who accepted his invitation to be on Suchwita. It's a profound, emphatic and very deliberate turning of the page by..him. He's ready to let go

I was crying the whole time watching this MV the first time because this shows that he literally experienced a lot too and the pain, challenges and disappointments in the past were just too much to bear for him, thus the scar. I fully understand now Daechwita, Haegum and Amygdala, the trilogy. But now D-Day has come. That mindset to focus in the present not your past nor future. He mentioned that he is now in a better mental state. Yoongi is brave enough to share it so it could shed some light and bring inspiration that we can also overcome our dark days. I'm just glad that Yoongi did not give up and has survived and is still with us today.

We saw the raw, real pieces here. We saw Yoongi, the boy with a dream. We saw Suga, that dream realized but still with joy and purpose just out of reach emotionally. We saw Agust D, the part of him he uses as a shield and to dig deep and find his strength. I have cried every single time I've watched this video and I cried along with ya'll too. Knowing what you went through with your mom hit home for me. We lost my mom on Christmas Eve 2014, and in 2018, at one of the darkest points in my life, I found BTS and they saved my life. It was an honor to experience this music video with you both and I'm sending all my love and support your way and to the Watcher Fam.
