Jp Reddy You can always tell the people who don't know what they're talking about when they whip out that 2007 autotune argument.
@SoulShines4Music7 жыл бұрын
Andrew Shearin - No argument, just fact. Ever listened to the Haiti version of this song? Autotune everywhere, starting right at the very beginning with Justin Beiber who's part is autotuned to death. If you can't recognize that for what it is then I'm afraid you don't know what being autotuned really sounds like. Also, that Haiti version was made in 2010, 3yrs after your 2007 deadline. The point is, autotune is everywhere now and is used like a crutch, most especially in Top 40 pop music. Unless you're trying to create a distinctive sound for a song (like Cher's 'Believe') there should be no need for autotune. The vast majority of people in the world don't have perfect pitch but it's those slight vocal modulations in a singers voice that make them sound distinctive, real and human. If you're a "singer" who has to rely on autotune (or any other pitch correcting software) to constantly stay in key then the fact is you're not a good singer period and your overall musicality stinks. Hats off to all the musicians out there who *don't* use the software, they are ones who are truely talented.

Because nowadays image is 80% of the product while singing ability can be 'fixed' in the studio. Once in a while you'll get a talent like Adele or Susan Boyle getting through but the industry in general will rarely give someone who looks likes like Steve Perry, Lionel Richie or Willy Nelson a record deal.

I think he was pressing a little. But look who he is singing before and after. Michael Jackson and Steve Perry. That might be a bit intimidating. He sounded just fine each time and that last take was his best. Pretty much the same can be said for everyone. All those pairings worked well and the Huey, Cyndi, Kim trio sounded great together. Lionel was so patient going around and working with each person who was having problems and getting everything worked out. Stevie and Michael helping out with that too.

Steve Perry effortlessly kills it every time. I also love Daryl Hall; he’s so awkward most takes but when he nails it, he nails it with that amazing 80’s voice of his. All of that said, no one does it like Michael which is why he mains the chorus.
@chrisb86552 жыл бұрын
It's partially because he was good friends with Quincy Jones, & was his main artist. Plus, he had a soft, easy listening voice that was accessible to radio, so it made sense in that way, too.
@Praetoreon2 жыл бұрын
@@chrisb8655 he was also continually top of the charts in those days. I don’t think he needed to be friends with Quincy to land the lead… doesn’t hurt though, I suppose.

A lot of talented singers who are on the mark every time. Tina Turner and Billy Joel get glossed over. Lionel is such a solid start. Paul Simon and Kenny Rogers? Inspired pairing. So were Dionne Warwick and Willie Nelson. The back and forth with Stevie and Bruce was musical genius. Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Kenny Loggins and Steve Perry....absolute money. Rock solid and beautiful voices. They can do this all day. The Huey, Cyndi and Kim trio was a revelation. So glad Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan and Ray Charles were included. I think Bruce coming in like a freight train actually scared a couple people. Loved that Cyndi Lauper got a chance to show she can rock out. There will never be an event like this again. Lastly, to be honest, watching all the reaction videos for this made me realize how much I've taken Steve Perry's amazing voice for granted all these years. Such a powerful yet beautiful voice and he sings with such emotion. Am totally rediscovering him and Journey here in 2021.
