Hearing things in the woods might seem scary, but trust me hearing absolutely nothing in the woods is a lot scarier Because if you hear nothing that means whatever's around is scaring everything

Yes, I was a city kid my whole life but moved into the sticks (not very deep though) about 7 years ago. This time of year at night I hear what sounds like literally a million frogs surrounding us, singing their songs, otherwise we'll hear crickets, owls hooting, etc. In any case there's always a lovely natural orchestra every evening. Occasionally, it'll suddenly go dead silent- not a single frog, cricket or owl can be heard. Based on our local wildlife this most likely means a deer or coyote is on the property, but it is eerie nonetheless to suddenly hear THAT much noise completely and totally die out to the point that you can hear that single twig snap...

@@desilina1982Yep, I know whatcha mean. As a local Florida swamp dweler that happens a lot. Ya, kinda just have to freeze, listen, and wait a minute. @@desilina1982 😄 yes sir or ma'am we have. Got all kinds of weird critters down here but I think we've just learned to live with 'um for the most part. Being a native here ya kinda know what to do and not do here in the the swamp. Also things to touch and not touch, eat and don't eat etc... Usually with the critters you leave them alone they most likely leave you alone. Unless they start messin' with your critters then ya gotta do somethin' bout them.

As someone who lives in the woods in Finnland. I have heard this many times, and it usually doesn't concern me too much, but one thing really does. When it goes dead silent, like all the birds and frogs and everything, just shut up to the point you can hear your own breathing. It means there is something close by that all the animals are scared of. I was just chilling on our lawn on a chair once when everything went silent, i started looking to the forest, and after a couple of seconds, i saw a bear appear to the side of the forest, stand there for like a minute, then it baby came out, they stood there for like 2 minutes, or thats how it felt like, im pretty sure they were looking at me. Then they disappeared to the forest and i have never seen them again. And seeing bears is extremely rare, my great grandfather is 90 years old and has lived in the forest all his life, his a lumberjack and has been taking care of his forest for 70 years, but he has only seen a bear 2 times in his life, both from far away and for way shorter time than me

We had heard litteral marching, bugle calls and other things that had the younger Scouts a bit rattled, but it's when we heard NOTHING for about 15 minutes, I am talking we only heard each other and our own breathing. We have actually had two Whippoorwills make a home close to our house. I remember hearing them frequently when I was growing up, but I know they will travel if they don't find a mate. We have heard them every year since we moved back out to the country, but this is the first year they have stayed. Our humming birds have also returned and they seem to be getting braver. One is even looking in the living room windows and tapping on the glass in the front door. I was born and raised in the country and it was wonderful returning to the peace and quiet we loved. God bless.
