To celebrate 30 years of The Nightmare Before Christmas, director Henry Selick has come forward with thoughts about an upcoming sequel and if we could ever see more from Halloween Town.

Maybe they could explore Jack's life prior to his death? We do know he died because he said so in his song. I could see a prequel where his past life is explored, whether he was Stingy Jack/Jack O'Lantern from folklore or someone else entirely.

They did actually make two prequel stories (one being a GBA game with Oogie Boogie taking over Halloween Town to bring back his rejected holiday and another being a graphic novel that came out recently about how Jack and Oogie were great friends).

I'm happy that Disney has rarely done anything with the movie. I think that's the main reason it's staying so relevant. Disney usually screws up their very good properties by using them too much and by leaving this alone they keep things the same and don't ruin a pretty perfect movie. I think if they made a sequel back in the day about any of the MANY doors in the woods things would be better but if they make a movie today I think it'll just be ruined.

Tim’s facts reminded me of Brad Bird’s The Incredibles. They both believe that having a sequel to their movies would ruin the flow and are not in the mood for making money and instead want to express their creativity and stories to the public eye! The strange thing is there technically IS a sequel...If you accept the video game as Canon. This kids from the tub kidnap ALL holidays for Oogie Boogie and go full villain on Jack, forming 3 bosses of 3 worlds alongside Boogie as the final. I never got to the end to see what the other holidays look led like or if they were even shown so I ironically DONT KNOW EXACTLY how it ends, but I assume Jack sets all the Holidays free and that's the end of the "sequel". And the game honestly wasn't bad I just ended up jumping to PC and selling my console mid-game.

There are already two separate officially licensed stories that tell the story of how Jack became the Pumpkin King. The first is the Gameboy Advance title “Nightmare Before Christmas: The Pumpkin King”. The second is a comic mini series titled “The Battle for Pumpkin King”. Both give entirely different interpretations of how Jack got the title.

They just recently released a novel going into Sally’s origins and her life as Jack’s wife. That’s unfortunate, I would’ve liked to see one focusing on Lock, Shock & Barrel with Shock in particular being the Main Lead, since she seems to be the Brains of the Group and i think it would be interesting to learn more about her perspective on things, while also learning more about the Trio too. Nightmare Before Christmas actually already has both a sequel and a prequel. The sequel is novel “Long Live The Pumpkin Queen” starring Sally in her own adventure, and the prequel is a graphic novel called “Battle For The Pumpkin King” or something like that, about Jack and Oogie Boogie fighting for the title of Pumpkin King when they were both younger. Idk how cannon these books are (if at all) but it would be cool if they got some kind of adaptation lol

I still believe a theatrical version of the Nightmare Before Christmas gba game "The Pumpkin King" would be good prequel material. It would show how and why Oogie fears Jack and establish Jack has very high power in HIS Halloween Town. As for actual sequels, Oogie's Revenge has that covered, expanding the lore to beyond just the two holidays with Oogie trying to rule them all, no doubt upset with how Halloween overshadowed his own holiday and Jack ruined his plans to make Halloween into Crawloween (his own bug themed holiday), and ruined his Sally/Santa stew in the actual movie proper.
