(1) The Nikon HD240p is better than Sony's...Sony is less than full HD and it shows. (2) The animal eye-detect in the Z6III isn't *quite* up to the dedicated bird detect mode of the Z8/Z9, unfortunately. (3) The waveform monitor is an option for video, but not stills...it's buried in the video settings. (4) If you shoot AF-C with AF-ON set to ONLY, you don't need to switch MF/AF -- when you want to AF just press the AF-On, and release it to stop AF and revert to MF. That stops the AF from hunting and lets you revert to MF immediately whenever required. Don't use AF-F unless you don't mind risking the AF hunting...which it absolutely will do if you give it a chance. Same goes with Sony and Canon, trust me.

The process of creating their own glass from scratch sets Nikon apart from most other companies, giving them a significant advantage in producing professional grade optics. This level of control allows them to fine tune their lenses to a much higher level, particularly for focal lengths beyond 400 millimeters and below 20mm.
@vacuumandgaspressurecoexisting5 ай бұрын
Is this unique to Nikon? Didn't they sell rehoused Tamrons with a Nikon badge recently?

I mean that sounds great, but why can't they make smaller glass? Talking about their normal FL primes, their large FLs are great.
@AbhinavYadav-zm7ut5 ай бұрын
@@marcotropic They make the PF glass which is way smaller an lighter than anything else, sure it has downsides but lens designs are always about compromises.
@ZeDestructor005 ай бұрын
@@marcotropic because it clearly hasn't really been a priority for them, until their latest 35 1.4, at least. For now, Nikon seems to be far more intrested in achieving the best optical quality for a given target weight and well.... it shows. Unlike Canon, who seem to have (initially at least) decided to go for as much compactness and lightness without compromising optics too much.
@albertjimenez78965 ай бұрын
@@marcotropic I appreciate your reply. Your question piques my interest since it leads to a lot of speculation. Nikon has continuously proven its competence in creating small lenses, despite the constraints of the older Nikon F mount. Despite the release of the smaller and faster Nikon NIKKOR Z 35mm F/1.4 Lens, Nikon's choice not to develop further lenses of this kind has perplexed many people. This lens is much smaller than the 1.8 prime lenses, and primes beyond 300mm are extremely lightweight, adding to the confusion. The release of the Nikon Z 35mm F/1.4 Lens demonstrates Nikon's ability to develop small lenses for its Z series, perplexing those who are unfamiliar with Nikon. Furthermore, it appears that the larger lenses' purpose is to facilitate future updates and compatibility with new items or technologies. This would also allow for more sophisticated functions, such as enhanced focusing and image stabilization. The lens construction incorporates larger and more potent motors and electrical components. In addition, optical experts and nerds believe that the Nikon Z mount "S" pro lenses may also be intended for crop sensor medium format cameras. The resemblance in size between the Nikon Z mount and the medium-format 645 mount has sparked speculation that Nikon may have concealed intentions to produce a camera that extends beyond 35mm. Finally, I understand and share your preference for smaller lenses. However, the need for video has forced each company to increase the size of its optics, resulting in a change in the dynamics of photography, with both benefits and drawbacks since everything in the world of photography is a give and take.👍

It would be nice if they did add mode change functionality to the rear thumb wheel - for example, pressing one of the front buttons on the grip and turning the rear wheel changes mode, and when the front button is released, it reverts to whatever the normal function would be usually shutter speed. They could probably implement that with a firmware update. It would be cool to do that without having to take your eye from the viewfinder, especially with a 600mm beast lens. Happy for you man. Nikon is a hard system to walk away from. I had to bite my lip allot with my Z6 when everyone including you made fun of it and Nikon. It was the underdog that got me to a professional level with wildlife nearly overnight. As for custom banks, I genuinely dug deep trying to find it for you. Most are posting videos for photo menu dives thus far unfortunately. Message from my friend I mentioned stated.. "Create a custom bank A, B, etc.. and assign one to 6K and the other to 1080p". I am sure this doesn't help you at the moment, but I wouldn't give up on it being in there. I was still finding useful settings I didn't know existed 3 years into using my Z6. BTW, not sure on that lens, but allot of Nikkor lenses have an AF/MF switch on the left side near the VR switch. Seeing as you have memory buttons at the front of your lens, I am pretty sure you have the works on that lens. Memory is also very useful to avoid af overiding your manual settings. Also look into af range limit or whatever Nikon calls it. Can be very useful if you're filming something at distance with objects closer to you that could potentially trip up the AF.

Adjusting the dial left handed looks like a tonne of leverage on the camera mount. I wouldn't want to do that with a lens that size. There's a reason you get collars on the big lenses. What are your picture settings for HD 240? Go for Flat and contrast, sharpening, clarity at -3. Maybe you're already there.

I don't really mind the placement of the pasm dial on my z63 (but I might if I had a huge lens like the 600mm) but what I find incredibly annoying is that it's always locked. Like that's so beyond stupid. Like Fuji does, let ME decide if I want it locked or not! But dude, that footage! Unreal! Makes me wanna sell a kidney to get that lens!

Lock is there for 100% confident on selected mode, because lot of people will forgot to lock/unlock and move the dial accidentally.
@xchump5 ай бұрын
@@ridwanatmawijaya108 Absolute nonsense argument! I leave the dials on my Fuji unlocked all the time and I have never accidentally moved them. In the rare cases you move the dials accidentally, it will happen in the camera bag or when you're fumbling around with the camera. It would never happen while shooting, besides, you would always see the mode you're in on the screen or evf so you can be "100% confident" on what mode you're in.

@@xchumpremember this : not everyone has the same age, not everyone has equal brain memory, not everyone use camera same like others, and not everyone treat their camera equally careful. Once my PSAM changed accidentally because i use 2 camera on double quick release strap.

@@ridwanatmawijaya108 Yes I agree, we're all different, which is why it would make most sense to let people choose if they lock it or not! You say we're all different yet you want to force those who don't want the lock to have it always locked to cater to the ones who "forget to lock it". Double standards dude...
@ridwanatmawijaya1085 ай бұрын
@@xchump its called minimizing human error. Its not cater for some people , Like it or not, double standard or not, doesn't matter.

Can't say for Z8/Z9 but in all DSLR models you can't zoom in 100% with a back button when recording. It's a feature of Nikon.
