A couple of bird rants: - Nuthatches are the only birds that can descend a tree trunk headfirst. - House sparrows are bullies at bird feeders. A-holes, actually. Only cardinals will stand up to them. - Another cool video. You'll see migratory birds starting around March. Get out more often.

Interesting. In addition, squirrels are one of the few animals that can descend a tree or surface head first. They are able to rotate their back ankles 180 degrees. I wish we had those cool black one here. I have seen one black mutant squirrel in N.C. Other than that we must settle for the common Eastern Grey Alien Squirrels. I actually have that exact birdfeeder out back.

I have not taken much video with the nikon 600mm, it does take glorious photos and refurbished models do pop up from Nikon heavily discounted which is a steal. The 180-600mm which is heavier is pretty darn good also if you want to trade the weight and slight image quality for versatility at a cheaper price point.

KZbinrs and the Z6iii noise gate is a thing. Blown out of proportion if you are not looking for it like most people watching a video and non-existent for people watching on phones, but yeah it has less dynamic range due to the partially stacked sensor.
@Key4Core.9 сағат бұрын
The funny thing is that that was not a joke. Nikon does not have noise. And has the great dynamic range. That was result (at last, oh my God) of the advise ( multiple one's ) from the commenters on the correct exposure on the Nikon z6-3. Nilon Z6 III video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pamwpoJ-oJV3r8U Good Luck finding the noise there
@kylewist77459 сағат бұрын
Try to keep in mind that noise performance and dynamic range are not the same thing. For video, though, the Z6iii is an incredible balance of performance, quality, and versatility.
@Key4Core.9 сағат бұрын
@@kylewist7745 Try to keep in mind that measured dynamic range of Nikon Z6-3 is half a stop better than the one at A7S3/FS3. The camera has the newest video-centric sensor from upcoming A7S4 / FS4 (these camera are not even announced yet) with on-sensor HDR and super-low rolling-shutter. So essentially this is the full featured A7S4 / FS4, as they shall be. With the internal raw recording, which Sony likely will never have in its mirrorless cameras though
@kylewist77452 сағат бұрын
@Key4Core. The Sony A7sIII registers 11.0 stops of dynamic range. The Nikon Z6iii registers 10.44 stops of dynamic range. The A7sIII is ISO invariant. The Z6iii is not. In reality, the original Nikon Z6 eeks out a victory over both with 11.01 stops of dynamic range and 24 megapixels AND an ISO-invariant sensor. Also, it is by far the least expensive Where it falls behind is on readout speed/rolling shutter. None of these cameras are universally "better." They are just differently balanced from an engineering perspective. Only the end user can decide what they value most. For me, I simply kept my Z7ii with its 11.6 stops of dynamic range and added a Sony A9iii. After all, if I am going to compromise the image quality for the sake increased readout speed, why not just go all in with instant readout speed/zero rolling shutter?

Love the blogs , today you pointed out a fix for Nikon to sort out. The blue factor. I spend most of my time reducing the blue no matter what I shoot . Next point about converters . Are they good or not question? I use the z8 And the 180-600z . Dx or Fx and a converter, which is best ? I purchased the z 2x converter before the 180 -600 z was released . Because I have it I really look to find a use for it. Winter in the United Kingdom can become light challenging. If I am going to use my camera I have to get out there no matter the weather. The 2x converter bumps up the f stop we know this . However I found if I don’t extend the reach all the way to 600 (1200) when using the converter I get sharper images that are not that bad . So if I say don’t over stretch the 180-600 z the photos are dam close to being top class. The weight is the only issue. It takes a strong arm or a tripod or mono pod just to make a difference. Try it see if I am right . Well congratulations on the getting married bit !

If I lived close to you Casey (New Zealand is a long swim) I'd lend you my trusty Canon FD 500mm f4.5 lens to try. Manual focus (of course) but omg.. for a 40+ year old lens it is truly spectacular even compared to the modern lenses you are using. I think you'd be amazed too!
@AlexLeeder949 сағат бұрын
Canon 500 f4 is usm mki would be way better .
@donaldbate30179 сағат бұрын
@AlexLeeder94 Why? My FD lens is 1/4 the price, it weighs only 2.6kg vs 4kg, it's simple (no AF or IS to break or wear out, easy to service), requires a basic mount adapter vs expensive chipped/powered one, and if your camera has IBIS and you're manual focusing anyway.. what advantage does the newer lens bring? None that I can see!
@AlexLeeder943 сағат бұрын
@@donaldbate3017 af for wildlife would definitely trump manual focus .
@donaldbate30173 сағат бұрын
@AlexLeeder94 True, but not always, as Casey proves .. I guess my original mindset was in the context of Casey demonstrating his bird and squirrel vids with an AF lens that occasionally frustrated him, and he resorted to MF. The old FD 500mm is lovely to use with velvety smooth internal focusing, and it has flourite glass etc, so I'd love to know how it compares with a modern Nikon lens in practice, both in performance and use!
@DavidGlasford6 сағат бұрын
That shot of the bird feeder was really stable. Was that all Nikon or did you add it in post?
@emilhach626410 сағат бұрын
Stick the Techart TZM-02 on it and explore autofocus using manual glass in video mode. This can't rack focus worth a darn, but for light tracking, there's nothing else like it. It's why I have a Z8 and my Sony gear only comes out for event videos.

The thing is that being second or third place is sometimes ok. How much better is Nikon's 135 f1.8 than Sony's? Probably not much; it's close enough. But when it comes to sports action and wildlife, Nikon is far ahead of Canon and Canon is far, far ahead of Sony. It is pathetic how far behind Sony is in sports action and wildlife, and at this point it seems impossible that they will ever catch up.
