Jack Doohan literally cannot be a flop. Everyone expects him to be replaced after a few races, so even if he finishes last in every race and then gets dropped he's not really a flop, he met expectations. The only way it up for him.

@@JMRopeI think in that case the point would still be proven that Colapinto has a higher ceiling. Doohan has had 2 and 1/2 F2 seasons under his belt and has been with alpine doing car testing, FPs and sim for years. Colapinto has more f1 races but that is it. He was never an actual reserve even at Williams (so obviously no experience with an Alpine at all)and had half an F2 season. All of that without mentioning that Jack has had resources because of money/connections/being a native English speaker his whole life, that Colapinto never had (he just got his sponsors last year via a twitter campaign cause he was not able to afford f2). If Jack wants to prove he is worth keeping he needs to be clearly better. It could be possible though.

couple of thoughts: - Leclerc will not benefit from Hamilton as a teammate. If anything, recipe for disaster just got stronger. - Doohan deserves more love from fans. I think he will do better than expected. - Verstappen WDC, totally agree. He will be the only one who will have full backing of the team and never have to worry about a teammate rival - Antonelli will not stand out from the rookies. Bearman is a good shout, but again, I call Doohan surprising everyone - Ferrari won’t win either title

Here's some of my hot takes: 2 new race winners, Kimi and... I think Liam will find a unicorn weekend somewhere and get a win. Ferrari to get the constructors, but down to the wire with like, 2 or 3 races at most to go. Drivers championship comes down to one of the last 2 races of the year, and honestly, there are at least 6 people in strong contention in my head... I think at the end, it will come down to Leclerc v Piastri, but with Max, Lando, Lewis, George fairly close behind, and I think at different points in the season 4 different drivers will lead the WDC. Someone other than just Doohan loses their drive. Crazy thought: One of the midfield/backmarker teams scores a crazy podium, maybe not as crazy as Brazil this year but that'd be HARD to top.

Jack has a father that is a multi world champion and grew up around him, he learned success from a baby, and wouldn't know what losing means, I think he should be good and will surprise many.

All the more reason to think he’ll fall short. A child being as good as or better than a world champion parent is all but unheard of, it’s so rare. In F1 we have Nico Rosberg who showed the same proficiency, and I can’t think of any others in any other sport where having a sports star parent translated into the child being amazing. I really want to see Jack do well but I fear there is little hope unless he can pretty much match Gasly for pace. The problem Jack has it the guy signing the driver contracts at Alpine also happens to be Jack's manager, which would nor mally be a good thing but as it happens the same guy is also the president of the Franco fan club at the moment. Jack will need to be something very special to keep Franco out of that car and for reasons I can't explain he strikes me as the sort of driver who needs to build up to his best. Sadly in this case he doesn't have time to build up to it. Hopefully he can do enough to get other teams to notice him so that if Alpine do drop him he has a chance of returning in a year or two.

Bit of a long shot. Chances are his car will not be as fast as the McLarens and Ferraris, he is not expected to be faster than Max and if Mercedes build a decent car George will be fast. Exactly. If Franco was seen as a potential champion he would not not have been in the Williams academy. Also, if Logan had performed better in F1 Franco would still be putting in solid but unspectacular results in F2. The guy made the most of the chances he has got which is a credit to him, but he is unlikely to be a superstar.

Good surprise: Russell (I think George and Mercedes will start the same but get better earlier then last season and do better) Flop: Kimi (I think he’ll have maybe 3 great performances, suddenly get one win, but will have lots of underperforming performances, basically a lack of consistency Loses seat: though I would like it to be stroll, it’ll be Doohan New winner: Kimi, Lawson could If he’s lucky, a random winner in the mid field in safety car/wet race. Alpine boat most likely. WCC: very close between McLaren and Ferrari, but I think Ferrari WDC: very close, but I do think Charles or Lewis is possible, I insanely think Oscar has a chance. Crazy prediction: at least half of the races this year (excluding sprints) will have a safety car or red flag.

What do you mean you don't sign Colapinto to sit on the pit wall? Schwartzman was a Reserve driver. Leclerc was a reserve driver. Ricciardo was a reserve driver. Piastri was a reserve driver for both Renault and McLaren at the same time. Teams sign young drivers to be reserves. It's not death.

1. They already signed Paul Aron and Ryo Hirakawa as reserve/test drivers before this. 2. Almost certainly, to get Williams to release him, Alpine would’ve had to fork over a huge sum of money, probably millions. Given that Colapinto had a long contract with Williams before this, and the millions in sponsorship he would bring to any team even as a reserve. With that assumption, why would Alpine pay so much just for Colapinto to sit on the sidelines? 3. They had signed Doohan before Colapinto made his debut, meaning they missed out on the window to sign Colapinto. Sure, nothing has been officially said, but when you connect all the dots, combined with Flavio hyping Colapinto as a massive talent since months ago, there’s one very natural conclusion to be drawn.

Nah, imagine how amazing his first five races were without even being having been a reserve before , without a pre-season, with him being literally halfway his rookie F2 season after a life of low resources (until 2024 where he got sponsors via a twitter hashtag). They’d probably be focusing on 2026 by then anyway since Adrian is being held back by Red Bull, and will naturally be behind on concepts for then, and would be trying to catch up as much as possible. I could probably only see 1-2 upgrades by end of season designed by him that could help them.

I hate to say so, but my bold prediction is that we will see the downfall of one of the greatest drivers of all time: Lewis Hamilton. He couldn't beat Russell last year and for sure Leclerc is a better driver as Russell. He is going to look bleak beside Leclerc and will end his career at the end of the season, maybe even sooner.
