I gotta say, I’m very surprised. I had no idea people in Milano make such low salary. And the average salary across Italy is low as well.I’m from Prague and I make twice the salary most ppl mentioned. Italian costs of living, food in the restaurant, etc.are higher than in Prague.
@SafeSpace-mq8yt14 күн бұрын
Can I ask you why are you surprised in the first place? ≈€2,000 net is actually pretty average in most of Europe, and it’s probably higher than what most people make outside of Germany and its satellite states (like Austria, Netherlands etc.). If you earn double than that in Czechia then I’m super happy for you, but you would be totally disconnected from the reality if you think that most people earn as much as you.
@PavlinaNemcova-i2d14 күн бұрын
@ Yes, I’m surprised, because 1,900 or 2K euros is roughly 47 000 CZK. That’s not much, especially for Prague, where the average rent or mortgage payment is estimated to be around 25,000 to 35,000 CZK per month. Of course, people generally earn less or more …less outside of Prague, but for a Czech person, who lives under the impression that Italy-which is perceived as a wealthy, Western European country, we might move to for better earnings-would only make around 2 000 euros is surprising. Here, people often say they need to move abroad to earn more than they can here. Honestly, moving to Italy and earning 2000-2500euros wouldn’t be worth it. You can make that around here (in Prague) pretty easily. Actually, you have to, to be able to afford living here. Czech people would expect to make at least 4-5K euros in countries like Germany or Italy. and this is the general perception of the wider population.
@SafeSpace-mq8yt14 күн бұрын
@@PavlinaNemcova-i2d Ok, thanks for clarifying this. However, I’m afraid to tell you once again you were a bit disconnected from the reality. For starters, because the purpose of this kind of videos (I guess) is to interview casual people, not necessarily the rich ones. Germany is, quite literally, one the richest countries in the world. And even there €4,000-5,000 net salaries, while they are much more common than in other countries, are still well above what most people earn, and you would still be considered a well-off individual if you earn that much. Believe it or not, €2,000-2,500 net salaries are very common in Germany too. Just ask any German if you don’t believe me. Furthermore, are you really sure that €2,000-2,500 is what most people earn in Prague? My impression is that you have a total disconnection of what most people earn, not only in Italy, but everywhere.
@PavlinaNemcova-i2d14 күн бұрын
@SafeSpace-mq8yt I am not disconnected from reality. Definitely not from Prague's reality. I am over 40 years old, having worked for several big companies. I hired people myself, so I know what we gave them and what they asked for. Some friends of mine own companies, and they give people jobs; I know what they are paying them. My husband owns several flats, which he's been renting for the last 15 years. We meet with people from various social circles, and people with various jobs, and we do their background checks. I know what they make and how the salaries have risen over the last several years. I am not disconnected at all...trust me. But of course, as everywhere...you always meet ppl who don't make $2K, of course, and usually they are the loudest. I'll tell you a funny story. A few weeks ago, the Czech Prime minister said if we vote for him again in the upcoming elections, he'll make sure Czechs would make the same salaries as people in Germany. All media, journalists, podcasters, ppl on social media commented on it. Made fun of him as everybody said that the average salary in Germany is around $5K (120K CZK), and we will never have that as a general population. It was everywhere...everybody, including other politicians kept saying that all Germans make around $4-5K (over 100K CZK) and how funny it is to think we will ever get there. So even our politicians are clearly disconnected :-). He said we would make $5K as Germans, cause the average salary in Prague is CZK 52000 (2088 euro) (Average...some have more, some have less).

I’m surprised that the “journalist” never once asked about the net salary directly-it always had to be two separate questions every time. First, it’s absolutely annoying, and second, by asking this as the second question, you might create an impression for the other person that the compensation might be low, as if you’re surprised and need clarification. I think this is the first comment I’ve written in a year, and it’s not meant to be hateful. But as much as I was curious to learn about salaries in Italy, it was equally hard to endure those 9 minutes.

Another “shocked American” making complete non-sense comparisons. Totally different living costs. A €2000 net salary, pay-checked 13 times per year, is enough to live comfortably in most of Europe (maybe the only exceptions are London and Switzerland), whereas in California you wouldn’t even afford basic utilities, considering that it took me a quick Google search to find out that in SF you pay $2,236 for a studio or $2,912 for a 1-bedroom per month! And not to mention the cost of healthcare, which is infinitely higher in the US. So you came here telling us how rich a Californian McDonald worker is, not knowing that in reality he is significantly poorer than the people in this video.

@@SamA-xu9gy I was replying to the first comment who compared a €2000 per month in Europe with a $32,000 per year of a US McDonald’s worker in California, explaining that a higher salary doesn't automatically translates to a better standard of living, and in this case the American McDonald’s worker is actually worse off. In any case, I don’t understand the meaning of “outside of Italy”, since technically in any country you can find better opportunities in another country, i.e. if you’re in France, you can find better opportunities in Germany, if you’re in Germany you’ll find better opportunities in Switzerland and so on. So your sentence is technically correct, but let me emphasize the fact that still Italy has better standard of living than 80-85% of countries around the world.

@@grace-sw4zx If the data you saw suggested that Norhtern Italian and English salaries are similar, it's bullshit. Quick comparison: Milan, 1.3M inhabitants. I don't know it looks like a propaganda video. As Italian I can tell, 90% of people in Italy salary is in the range of 1200-1600€. But Italy is also the country where millions of people work for themselves as individual enterpreneurs so montly salary is never the same. If you work by yourself and you build a good company you can have a decent life but as an employee in Italy you struggle because salaries are very low compared to renting and other stuff. It's impossible to live for average Italian with a salary of 1300€ per month and 6-700€ renting for a flat studio. Also Italy is not a country where there is meritocracy doesn't matter if you are an engineer either PHD or you work in unqualified jobs the salary range will be always the same.

That one girl had a salary of 900 euroes so i gues there is very wide range of salaries, i was in Milan this year and prices are big but you can also find ones that are not so big but not around center, it was weird when i found out that Aperol Spritz is around 5-8 euroes and in my small town in Croatia it was same and we are just few hundred people in terms of population, so talk about high price compared to salaries "900-1100 euroes netto" but when you go on vacation you release the funds an live like a king for few days but on regular day to day basis it is complicated for avarage Joe, well maybe a cup of coffea is always must but even that has gone up, Milan prices withouth "Milan" salaries, fuck withouth Zagreb salaries, Milan is just a dream when it comes to that for many people both in Italy and outside.

Purtroppo una retribuzione mensile da 900 euro è considerata buona per uno stagista in quanto in alcune regioni, come l'Emilia-Romagna, il minimo è di 450 euro al mese.

Excuse me, but how much did you think most people earn before watching the video? €2000 net isn’t exactly a “low” income: they don’t make you rich, but it’s actually pretty average in most of Europe, and you don't have to inherit any flat to live decently.
