So excited for my winter season this year, as a freshman last year I got a pb of 1.70 at the last season meet but I never got to jump at any winter meets. I was able to get 1.68 meters a few days ago off of short approach and 1.78 is my goal for winter season because that would put me in winter champs. Love the training videos jumpman

I feel the same way about not focusing too much on the technical aspects of the high jump rather the aspects of the run up and how the takeoff feels. You’re right that being faster and stronger will cause the form to come naturally so your body can actually hit this position “/“ at takeoff I improved my pr from 2.06 to 2.11 in one year’s time with this mindset as-well. My curve running got better in which caused me to not slow down into takeoff because I could handle the pressure. I see a lot of similarities between our jumping styles and feel that is one aspect I think you should look into. Loved the video and good luck jumping!

About 7 weeks out from a meniscus surgery. I should have heeded your advice from a comment many months ago telling me to pause training. A few weeks later, I tore my meniscus, and I missed all of championship season. Lots of PT and recovery time is needed. On a brighter note, watching these videos gives me hope that I'll be jumping soon enough. I can't wait to do some pre-season sprint training around September. Our school just got a new track so it'll feel beautiful to run on.

I like track although I don't do much but I can guess that flying or even scraping over the bar has to be the most satisfying feeling ever ha

No way, a clearance when you don't feel the bar below you is amazing.

Slowly work into jumping. Gotta take baby steps. I couldnt handle max jumping twice a week from the get go. And even now after an extended break i have to work into it again.

Ik this is a very late comment, but I have two questions that would really help me out: first, when I approach, I can never kick my right leg up to my butt when planting (I'm a left foot jumper). I also feel that I have very little air time on my plant step, is that the way it should be? Or should I hop into my plant so I can kick my right leg up and drive better? Second question is kinda dumb but I've never jumped in spikes at all, how big of a difference do they make in regards to jump height versus like regular tennis shoes?

Hey odd question but have you ever high jumped in javelin spikes? They have the same spike layout and I recently saw someone use them in a meet.
@matehj
@matehj 3 ай бұрын
No, because it would mean buying a pair haha. Would love to try it but I assume they're heavy as. A normal size 11 mens hj spike is around like 300 grams I think.

Practicing doing it without the bar up. Build the habbit. You'll also learn that it makes you go higher.

Could be slow pull through also, Weak hip flexors? idk, could be psoas muscle weakness or tightness. Something I've dealt with. I know Chris Korfist has also to say about that. anyway, fan of the vids keep going!
