This trail should only be open during the dry season.

If you hiked this trail in January, you did so during the rainy season. That was not advisable. I am glad to see that you had the sense to stay put and wait for the level and speed of water in the streams to go down. It also looks as if you had appropriate equipment. Still, people should not hike this trail during the rainy season. It is too dangerous. The ground is very slippery. Some individuals have fallen to their death because of this.
