We Banjo 3 - Open The Road - Official Audio

This tune was written while sitting on a beach on the island of Okinawa in Japan. It came straight from head to paper-no instrument in hand-which always brings out a different type of tune. When we got into the studio, we found ourselves playing it over and over and over while we got it tight, and during this repetition the idea for this undulating track came out, giving the tune time and space to explore. We recorded this live all together in one room. It’s a track that nicely captures a moment in time, and the real beauty is that every time we play this one at a show, it’s completely different.
We brought our great friend Ryan Molloy in on piano and keyboards to add some of his sparkly magic. - David Howley

Absolutely great track. It brings back memories for me of how we used to play some sets in Rent-A-Crowd back in the mid 80s. (Fergal, ask Eileen Ivers about them.) We'd start Maid Behind the Bar very slow in G, and gradually speed it up, tearing into full speed in its regular key of D. Also, some shades of Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill exploring a tune there. Very well done.

Absolutely mesmerized by this tune. It's gorgeous! My fiddle player and I call these "the worm in the ear" tune....can't get it out of our heads. I am learning it to bring to our sessions~. Thank you for creating it!!!
