That’s a thing about the Sonic franchise I always dislike: so many characters with awesome designs end being so underutilized due to either the low quality of the games they’re introduced in or the decent quality of spinoff games that people hardly play/acknowledge (like Blaze the Cat, Jet the Hawk, Sticks the Badger, and - to an extent - Cream and Cheese)

Metal Sonic from Sonic CD and Sonic Heroes is the one everyone remembers, but there have been like seven different Sonic robots in the games over the years (and at least of them were mass produced). I assume the creators just wanted to make their own contribution to Sonic's lineup of evil robot clones instead of using one of the existing ones.

I think Vegeta was definitely an inspiration when Sega made Shadow. 10:22 Sonic and Shadow are evenly matched in terms of speed. Also, no he’s not a robot. That’s a whole other can of worms in his game’s mess of a plot. 26:38 I doubt Dr. Babble is saying anything specific. The voice clips he has in this show are reused occasionally, so they’re likely just stock sound effects. 40:10 Rusty’s character arc here actually mimics Omega, the last of the E-Series. 1:21:00 And here we have Chaos Sonic. The most annoying version of Metal Sonic. As for the reason he looks so different from Metal? He wasn’t created by Dr. Eggman, but by the Chaos Council. They didn’t just make Sonic fight himself physically, but mentally. He’s just as annoying as Eggman/Chaos Council finds Sonic to be.
