They only similarly is that their true relationship is a secret, but it is a different situation since Nick is actually communicating his feelings and not leaving Charlie in the dark about his doubts in his sexuality. Like Charlie told Ben, "If you are still figuring out your sexuality, fine I would've been there for you, dont you think I of all people would've understood..." And this is what Nick is doing right, letting Charlie know that he is confused, scared and not ready to come out yet.

In defense of Tao…. 1. Charlie has already told Tao that he knows Nick is straight because Nick told him. So in Tao’s mind, Nick is definitely straight. 2. In the books we know that Charlie went through hell the past term with the bullying he was experiencing and Tao was there to see it first hand and how terrible it was for Charlie. He wants to protect Charlie from another ‘lad’ from that type of group. 3. With Elle now at Higgs heir friend group has been broken by 25% at school. Charlie getting close to Nick will take Charlie away from him too. Tao is a really good friend and wants to protect Charlie from getting emotionally hurt again.

I usually pass on teen dramas on Netflix (I'm not in that demographic, as I am closer in age to Nick's mom - Olivia Coleman). But I had just watched ROCKET MAN (Kit Connor played the teenage Elton John) and I figured I'd give it a shot. I was HOOKED after the first episode! It's refreshing to watch a LGBTQ+ show that's wholesome and doesn't rely on half naked guys obsessing over nonsense. I can't wait until season 2 begins! When I was in high school (over 40 years ago,) I wish I would've been as brave as Charlie to be out and proud! BTW Love you guys channel! Your reactions are priceless; Keep up the GREAT work fellas!

With regard to the scene in episode 1 where Elle gets into trouble for using her phone during lunch. I have watched pretty well every Heartstopper reaction posted to KZbin but no reactor has picked up on the fact that at the start of the scene the first thing that the teacher says is "lunch is finishing in 5 minutes girls " I have always taken this to be a warning that it is time to put away their phones

21:01 actually in the comics it’s mentioned a couple times (and in the solitaire novel it’s stated by tori) that Charlie is very popular and well liked at this point. He was bullied very harshly the year prior but after the bullying stopped he slowly become very well liked because everyone knew who he was and he’s really cool and nice so everyone naturally just loves him. They changed it in the show to be that he and his friend group are outcasts. But in the comics he’s very popular and especially by the time you reach the “nick and charlie novella” part of the timeline charlie is si popular that he is chosen as head boy.

For example in the first episode of the show-when Charlie’s about to go into the locker room, but before he enters, he hears things like “does he even like sports everyone knows he’s gay” etc. In the comics those quotes are said too, but someone also says “like I know he’s popular, everyone loves him, but can he even play?” So very early on in the comics it’s established that charlie is popular even though people are still stupid teenagers when it comes to his sexuality.

Almost every reaction I have seen for Heartstopper misinterprets the relationship between Tao and Elle. You need to remember they were best friends before she transitioned when she was still a boy ,Tao is very possessive of the entire friend group. His feelings for Elle in the early episodes are the same as for Charlie and Isaac. It not till episode 5 that Elle realises she has romantic feelings for Tao and episode 8 that Tao comes to the same realisation
