The Wire is an amazing show. The creative team was lead by an ex-journalist who had spent a lot of time with detectives, and an ex-detective who became a high school teacher, and it comes across as written by people who are angered by bad systems and set out to expose them. As a Brit, I feel like this show (and things like the way the cops closed ranks to protect someone who blinded a child) has done a lot to help me understand where the anger of the BLM movement came from, but also in how systems can encourage people to play number games instead of doing the real job that is needed. I wonder how some US folks don't become furious watching this as it feels like it's comprised of real anecdotes as much as telling it's own story. I hope you push through all five seasons, then you get to have fun conversations like who is the most evil person on the show. Levy, the lawyer for Barksdale etc to me feels worse than even Avon or Stringer - those guys feel institutionalised in finding their way in the lifestyle, they never had much hope of being anything else, but Levy is a parasite who enables them. There are other contenders who you'll meet later, I'm just putting the question in your mind!

Season 2 was necessary but definitely the weakest season. But, stay with it. 3-5 is legendary.
