Ayy, another great take! I wholeheartedly agree that this song is a dialogue between Sleep and Vessel! You guys are so funny when it comes to your disagreements xD My take isn't too far from Dave's here, just a tad more of a deeper dive into the interpretation of the lyrics themselves. Lyric dissection time!: Trapped under the surface of your words There is a new intention New whispers that once could not be heard Catching your *attention*- (Ah yes, Vessel. Back at it.... Again. But wait! A new intention? Still infatuated by the ever-looming thralls of Sleep, but now he's making DIFFERENT promises to her this time? And she's actually listening??? Another note: a lot of the lyrics say 'intention' in the fourth line, but I actually have always heard 'attention'. It also seems to fit better this way, does it not?) Wait, talking with razors on your tongue Just to provoke my combat New weapons to snap those final strings Just to watch me fall back - (Vessel has such a way with words; when I make fanart, I tend to lean HEAVILY on his lyrics simply because they're so visually rich! Sleep is doing what she does best: being the toxic narcissistic deity that she is. Trying to get a reaction out of him by spitting sharp words that cut deep, his attention fueling her. Seems they THRIVE - she definitely does, at least - in this destructive relationship. She's using new tactics on him, amused at the way he just keeps falling back and still getting back up to her. Vessel is a toy for Sleep's amusement) Do you like that? (Do you like that? No) Do you like that? (Do you like that?) - (There she is! Sleep herself; now she's asking him in the background with the deeper/ whisper tone 'Do you like that? No'. THIS is her new weapon that she's using to snap his final strings - provoking Vessel by answering for him, always trying to be the one in control here. All the while, he's giving her the same response, keeping them locked in an interrogative limbo) Push down into membranes and layers Creating a slow dissection I stumble into your tar trap An addition to your collection - (Oop, pack your bags, ladies and gentlemen. Sleep's got him. Vessel admits that her harsh words are actually doing him damage, and he's slipping right into her bait like cheese on a mouse trap. And he freaking LIKES THAT. He knows she's done this several times before, and he's just another victim) Do you like that? x4 - (Vessel chanting in prayer, imploring and offering himself to her) Fall into your eyes like a grave (all that is inside, all your anger) Bury me to the sound of your name, oh (all your disgust, all your resentment) Fall into your eyes like a grave (all your pain, all your pain) Bury me to the sound of your name - (Sleep's lines in parentheses give me chills here! Even as he's begging her to take him again, to bury him into her very soul and engulf him in her presence, Sleep is STILL trying to provoke him! She's relishing on his negative emotions; the more she can get out of him, the better!) All your pain (fall into your eyes like a grave) All your pain (bury me to the sound of your name) All your pain (fall into your eyes like a grave) All your pain - (Look at that, line switch! Now Vessel is the one talking about Sleep's pain, and Sleep is falling into Vessel's grasp as he sinks into hers; it's almost like it's driven by some HOLY FORCE beyond their control? *wink wink*) (Do you like that?) (Do you like that?) (Do you like that? No) x2 - (Sleep always has to have the final say here, the wench) Now, Sussi, I won't lie... This song took me a minute to adjust to. I did NOT like that... initially. Until I actually listened to the lyrics and realized the genius that is Vessel weaving his words so effortlessly. That line about "razors on your tongue" to "provoke my combat" had my jaw DROP when I first paid attention to it. "Stumble into your tar trap, an addition to your collection"... fucking Shakespeare out here spitting these bars! Over all, I think I'll place it at 22 for me! Can't wait until I get to Alkaline!!!

Another song that I got to listen to for the first time. It's not a favourite but lyrically it's very clever. I do have to mention that, I recently came across a video on tiktok, I can link if you wish. It's a clip of a pre-recorded conversation between Sleep and Vessel (or at least that's what people believe) It was played in Sleep Tokens USA tour, it gives a little bit of insite to their ''relationship'' if you will. And I can hear Vessels voice full of emotion during it. This song reminded be of the tiktok clip I saw. Ranking wise, as it's my first listen and i'll need more time, I'm gonna have to put it at 24 for now... I'm shifting a few things around so by the end of the third album nothing will be where I originally placed them except number 1 and 2... I already know what songs will be placed there... but then again knowng me... it'll shift

I actually did hear that conversation - it does clear things up. I think me and Sussan looked for an transcript and we went through that, but this was a while ago. Since doing these dives, I am sure it would have a different colour to it now. - Dave

It appears to be a real struggle for you trying to rank these songs. Which is why I personally can't. My favourite Sleep Token song is which ever one I'm listening to at the time 😂! It's interesting that in Like That is the lyric, "Fall into your eyes like a grave" and in a pre-Sleep Token song is the lyric, "Your eyes are graves to me and I'm falling in" It's these sort of similarities that lead me to think that some of Vessel's story is told in his previous musical projects.
