What a fabulous boat. We searched for our new forever boat for over a year and most of our fave's were Bob Perry designs. You have chosen a stunner. I cannot wait to see her under sail. As far as the black wood, many of these production boats had nooks and crannies where construction scraps could collect. Also, often cheap plywood was used for moulding floor pans and head drains etc. This wood is sacrificial and is often not removed after casting is completed. It just rots away due to moist air in the bilges and the fact that it is just cheap disposable ply and not proper marine ply. Nothing to worry about. One of the nicest boats on KZbin.

Teak Decks - leave them naked without oil and wash with salt water for the most comfort. Never brush or scrub with the grain always across. If you want to deep clean the most effective and basic in all cleaners is occalic acid - mis with water brush into deck, leave sit for 10+ minutes depending on how much you want to lighten the teak then wash off. At this point if you do choose to oil the teak it will look AMAZING like new yacht but you wont be able to walk barefoot on it unless you are above the 46 parralell. Oil traps heat from sun. As for the caulk - hard job but easy to do yourself read the teak Deck Systems info - use their 440 caulk and go to U Tube University for the hardcore how to tips and trick..

Well done brilliant and the number one thing you never do with teak is scrub it along the grain ALWAYS ACROSS THE GRAIN and don't oil it as it attracts the dirt and is messy Good luck guys

OHHHHH! I am so excited for you! You will have so much more room for Lula and any future kids you add to the family! That boat will be beautiful. You might want to look at removing the teak and just going with fiberglass and possibly something that will be soft and protect your feet from the heat. Teak gets super-hot and can burn the feet. With littles you probably don't want to invest that much money into teak only to have it burning your feet and the littles. Y'all will have to wear shoes at all times on the boat if you keep the teak decks. I can't imagine you two let alone the littles wearing shoes all the time to not burn your feet!

A great choice of vessel. I do not think you can go wrong there. The teak decks are best replaced rather than repaired, and many teak decks are just teak on top of fibreglass--comparatively easy to fix. I would replace the teak decks with High grade Airex PVC foam sandwich and on the top layers of glass, apply a good quality non-skid. Teak is an on-going problem best avoided, and foam decks are cooler in summer saving power, and help hold in warmth in winter. My $0.02.
