This boat was on the other side of the dock when I lived on my boat. It was always so sad to see a strong and capable boat just being left to die. When I washed my boat, I always sprayed down the port side that faced me. So happy to see you are going to tackle this restoration. I'll be watching. Great luck!

You have the best idea of all the people awaiting new boats. This is always interesting to us as once a couple have sold there’s a lot of nothingness for us to see. I personally have stopped watching quite a few sailing channels as I prefer the restoring to building a new boat from a kit or even visits to factories such as sea wind, just isn’t my thing. Make sure you check/replace the oil in tne injector pump. Easy to check drain and refill. Use the same oil as in the engine 15-30 or 15-40. Dont use anything heavier or a mono grade oil. Will still lube the pumps internals if you do but a heavier grade oil can and will cause the engine to hunt for a while on startup. If there is some diesel in the pumps oil when you drain it thats not too bad a sign unless the entire cambox of the pump is full of diesel which is pointing to the plungers/elements being excessively worn.

I just turned 59 and its been my daily driver for the past 24 years. There's now 1.2 million miles on the clock. That old Cummins has never been opened. A few clutches, some brakes and more tires than I can count though. lol! I'm retiring this fall and Big Red's beginning to have a little trouble holding good oil pressure at idle, so its the end of the line for both of us. But, yeah, its hard to let go.

For a lot of people, I would say I hope you know what you're getting into, but you guys have rehabbed so many boats, I can't imagine this being something out of your league. At your age, I would have done the same thing! You can always put it on a ship as deck cargo to get it back here. Have your run the numbers on trying to bring it back through the canal? If you have the fuel range, that would be fun. But, even if you only flip it for what you put into it, you've had a boat to live on until the next one arrives! I'm excited for y'all.

OMG you got it for $100! Would you believe that after meeting you (Sierra) at our JF Publix we found a sailboat on Craigslist for $1!!!?? Now, we know that nothing comes for free but there are many boats out there that the owners can no longer take care for anymore, for many reasons. Many sailboats like this Camper and Nicholson were built strong and can outlast their original owners, which is our situation and gift! We’ve had her for a year and a half now and she’s still floating lol just on the other side of where you guys used to anchor in Jupiter, at Burt Reynolds Park! We are slowly updating her and bringing her back to life…..literally all because of you both! Thanks for all the inspiration. Thanks for sharing your journey. Here is our boat on her shakedown sail! You’ll see that she has an outboard engine instead of a proper engine and that’s why she was $1. We are close and anxious about getting her engine installed soon! Yes, we went out of the jupiter inlet! Luckily, it was one of those extra high tides! You never said what the condition of the bottom was...A bunch of my buddies and I brought 42 footer in 1960. it had a bad bottom and we couldn't get a space to pull it out and work on it, there was over a year waiting list, we kept pumping it out, but it went down one night in about 20 foot of water, we got it back up at low tide, and a warning from the Coast Guard. A couple of Months later we came down to work on it and it was gone. Turns out it went down again and the Coast Guard pulled it a couple of miles off shore and sank it. We had installed a brand new engine in it, so we went diving and pulled the engine. We was out quite a bit of money and a lot of disappointment. The rest of the boat was beautiful.

My wife and I just sold our trawler not long ago. We live in Stockton CA we're about 8 hours inland from San Francisco bay on the San Joaquin river. There's about 1500 miles of navigable water ways between the San Joaquin and Sacramento rivers it's fresh water as well there's lots of Marina's here on the San Joaquin and berthing is about a third less than the bay and that could be for a covered slip which is not common in the bay most are open if you got an open end tie somewhere around here it would be even cheaper than that. When I was restoring our trawler I was happy to have it under a covered slip it really helped. It's very easy to to navigate from here to San Francisco and back it's all deep water ship channels as Stockton CA is an inland sea port we also have a few good boat yards here.

Wish you guys luck. Don't toss the generator yet, if the engine runs it could be the AVR which controls the output voltage. I am surprised on two accounts, that you are able to insure the boat and that a yard will allow it in. Sometimes these boats end up abandoned then the yard pays to have it disposed.
