Hey Sally, I'm a silent viewer but the thoughts you expressed about your parents really resonated with me and so I'm leaving a comment. It's such a blessing to have parents who've sacrificed so much to give you a better life, and the fruits you are seeing now are a result of that so don't feel guilty but be proud! You doing so so well and I'm sure your parents are super proud. Sending virtual hugs ☺️

I've never heard anyone articulate this kind of guilt so well. I get emotional when I succeed for the same reason: that my parents worked so hard for me to have a corporate job that affords a lifestyle they didn't have at my age. Thank you for sharing this. I think we have to remember that our parents are proud of us. Our achievements are theirs. Congrats on your home 🎇

You are not alone. I, too, experience the same sense of guilt when things go well or I do things for myself. I can't explain it, where it came from or how it even started. You should be proud of all your hard work, long hours, late nights and sleep deprived days from busy season. You should be able to enjoy the rewards from your hard work. I am sure your parents are so proud of you! Congratulations on buying your first home! I wish you both much love and happiness as you start the new chapters in your lives! Hugs!

I got so emotional hearing you voice your guilt and thoughts. As the eldest child of immigrants, I also experience this sense of guilt of “doing well” and finding my job “stressful” behind a screen, compared to my parents who have do really strenuous labour work. I don’t think these feelings will ever go away but maybe we’ll learn to be happy for our own achievements regardless!! You work SOO hard and deserve the best future and if it means one of your goals is being a homeowner, then you deserve every right to be able to achieve that and be happy❤️❤️ Bit of a ramble, but I’m always rooting for you! BIGGEST congrats 🎉

Bye brb crying but you should be so so proud of yourself, and I’m so sure your parents are so so proud of you. This is what makes them proud!! That their hard work paid off and your hard work paid off too. Totally normal to have these feelings. Your parents grew up in a different time where they didn’t have as many opportunities as you, but that doesn’t discredit that you also work really hard (just in a different way). It’s still a home that you have worked hard for; you put in those hours working as an accountant, as well as late nights and weekends into your KZbin career where you make a significant difference in thousands of lives. Remember that you will be sharing many experiences with Paul and your parents in it! ❤️❤️❤️ you’re doing your absolute BEST! Congratulations on being a homeowner - you deserve it the most!

The imposter syndrome and roller coaster of emotions you felt during your initial home buying journey is definitely valid. I was in the same position as you exactly a year ago when I started my home buying journey with my boyfriend. I was also in the busiest season of my work, and when we kept losing out on offers, both my mom and my boyfriend's parents offered to help. There was an immense guilt for me personally because my mom doesn't own a home and for her to give what she had for me to be happy was...something else. On top of that, I also have this weird relationship with money that I never want to be indebted to anyone and kind of had a "make it on your own" pride I had. Part of me never wanted to even buy a home feeling the guilt I had. But, when we got our offer approved, my mom was so happy for me because this was what she wanted: for me to succeed in life and have the things she couldn't have. It's a weird feeling as a child of an immigrant to do better for yourself but trust me when I say that your parents are probably thrilled for you. Just make sure you don't change your relationship with them as you move :) So happy for you Sally. Being a homeowner is so rewarding (but also makes you feel broke LOL). Congrats!

I think that you sharing your feelings was a precious thing ❤️ we all struggle with different things and it’s important to acknowledge and process them instead of always saying: “there’s someone who is in a worst situation than me” because that’s unfortunately true, but I’ve learned that it doesn’t help us solve our problems. I felt a deep connection with what you said✨

Thank you so much for sharing such a vulnerable moment with us. I know it couldn’t have been easy. As someone who also comes from an immigrant parent background, all I can say is that you deserve it. I know what it’s like watching your parents wake up super early and work and then come home after long day but just think of it this way: this is exactly what they worked so hard for. I’m not sure how much your parents were able to help you with your education but I’m sure in their eyes every sacrifice they made was worth it to see their child become so successful. Especially in this inflated economy. As sweet as it that you care so much, there is no stronger love than between parents and their children and I don’t think your parents regretted it one bit if it means that you’ll be doing well

Made me cry, almost. As Asians, family really is the most important to us, they are our foundation regardless. But eventually, we need to leave our nest and spread our wings because the life we live is ultimately ours. But leaving our family doesn’t mean not caring for them anymore, instead, once we have loved and cared for our own selves, the more we can actually give and share more love to our family and others! ❤😊

Sally, I usually don’t leave comments but I resonated so much with your guilt. As a Korean American “1.5 gen” and only daughter of immigrants, I struggle so much with the same feelings that you expressed so well. It’s so hard. I never feel completely “happy” when I do things for myself like go on vacations or make big purchases or even think about moving away from my family… and in a way I have resentment towards them for these feelings and the “American childhood” I never had. I have such complex emotions about it. Not sure if this will ever go away, but thank you so much for sharing.

Congratulations. Some questions I hope you could share your insight on your home buying experience during these times. How did you weigh the risk? 1) What were your thoughts about buying a house during the peak of the housing bubble (today is 5/17/2022)? 2) Any thoughts about negative house equity if the market decides to take a nose dive in the near future? How did that factor into your decision? 3)Did you decide to go with a Adjustable Rate Mortgage or Fixed? Again, congratulations to you both for purchasing a home in these times.

Ok second comment This is for the first part of the video where u talk about ur parents. Warning, long story coming up: When I was five, I came to England from South Korea with my two baby sisters and my parents. I never knew how hard it was then, because I was so young. But know I’m older I can relate so much. So so much. So far my family has never lived in our own house, it’s always been rented. It’s ok, but sometimes I just feel, I wouldn’t call it guilt, but I just feel… basically what u said. I feel I should be sorry to them? That I’m not always thankful even though we moved half across the world they still loved us and just stayed with us. All the time. And I just wanted to say, how I could relate so much. I pick up things that my sisters don’t, which give me a lot of stress, but it makes me shudder to think what my parents went thru. Leaving their whole family to live in a strange country that was on the other side of the world. And all I wanted to say was I really felt u there. Lol I feel like crying now 😭 That’s a lot longer than expected but if u read thru it all thank you. Sally, even if I don’t always watch or comment on ur vlogs as soon as they come out, I’ll still support u even if I have no idea who I am. Don’t worry I’m not some creepy middle aged man, I’m just a South Korean teen now living in England for years. U r an inspiration, honestly
