Really good video! The tractor never seemed to be loaded and ran the baler really well.

Tractor handled it like a dream! Actually, having never run a round baler before, it was a pleasant experience to not have the surging of a square baler

I had a Hesston 5545 round baler, which made a 4x5 bale. Bought it used, used it for ten years, and sold it for the same price I paid for it. Those are good balers. Very simple, not much can go wrong with them, and parts are readily available. They are not a "fast" baler, as it takes time to stop and tie a bale. But as you said, the advantage is that you are not pressed to get them out of the field the way you do with a square bale. One thing I had to do with my baler was cut all the belts the same length. I had to replace a couple of the belts and the remainder of the belts were stretched. Took the old belts off and cut them to the same length as the new ones. And yes, you need to address the loose chain. What I did with my control box was to attach a magnetic base from one of those nut and bolt trays. This allowed me to set the controller on the top of the fender when I was baling and easily remove it when not in use.

@lkj0822g Thanks for the tips! I'm definitely going to address the chain and I really like the idea of the parts tray magnet 🤜

I started with a bale spear, after my 1st season went to a bale hugger. Look on marketplace, makes stacking so much easier. I ran lines from rear remotes to front loader, just unplug when I need rear remotes. I use it on my Kubota L2850 so you could too. Anyway great purchase!!

Thanks for the tip! I will look into them. Right now I am using pallet forks and flipping the bales on end and stacking 3 high. The video coming out this weekend will show my attempt at stacking 😆 Do you stack on end or on the round side with the hugger?
@TheTriangle4Ай бұрын
@@SkylineAcresVA on the flat end, less distortion that way. Plus we wrap ours so stacking on flat keeps the wrap in place better. To sell them either need a barn or wrap imho.

@@TheTriangle4 👍 I figured that's what you were doing. And you are 💯 correct about storing to sell.

I was looking into this model of baler because of its low horsepower requirement. Would love to see a tips and tricks video when you get some more bales though it

Definitely more to come on the baler! Thanks for watching!

We bought one for 500 at auction. Parts are a problem!! They have not made Hesston in 40 years. Parts are only available from junk yards. Also, you need to watch that the bale is rolling evenly in the machine as you go along. It was cheap, What did you give?

I wonder if you're thinking of a different model. I was able to get on Agco's website, and practically every part is available. I just bought a new twine knife for it. I don't know the year ranges of the Hesston, but the Case 8420, which is the same baler, looks like it was made from 1988-2000. Mine has a serial number that starts with 04 (not sure if that's indicative of the year)

You need to address the gathering wheels at the front of the baler, They pick up all the loose hay which hasn’t been rowed up and turn the excess hay back into the rows of hay.🇬🇧🇮🇪.
@SkylineAcresVAАй бұрын
@michaellynskey7124 it's next on the list. I had explained that in the video but I took it out during editing. Most 530's I see, the rubber has come off and they are expensive! People just leave them off! I'm going to try the sidewall of an old tire bolted on there, or something similar.
