That’s almost a small river… That is absolutely gold find… It’s a sandy bottom creek You clean the sides of the creek, remove the trees that fallen on it… you put spikes on both sides, attach a rope and you can put inner tubes and still float on the creek while the water goes past you
@NorthofNowhere.6 ай бұрын
appreciate that man! We felt the same way when we saw it for the first time. Still hard to believe that we got it. When we first got it, I did some research on the differences between brooks, streams, creeks, and rivers, because this would definitely be considered a river in many places. It feels like one. It flows into a larger body of water (Grass River) which then goes to Torch Lake, which is why it's considered a creek. It's the perfect spot for setting up some tubes and floating. You two are braver than I am. I've been looking at properties in Northern Michigan and the U.P. Most of the homes are in need of a great deal of work--floor to ceiling and sometimes the basement or crawl space as well. It seems like the majority of A-Frame homes I've looked at are stuck in the 60's or 70's. Lord knows what you'll find when you try and replace the dark, fake wood paneling with sheet rock.

My great aunt (my grandma's sister) lived in an A frame on the Mississippi River when I was kid. In February I bought a 950ish sq foot 1 bedroom A-Frame with 8 acres on a large lake in East Texas and it has the same lay-out and I'm doing the same thing, bedroom and bathroom upstairs and I'm going to rip it out to vault the ceiling and put my bedroom in the back of the house, put the bathroom back in the front and the area in the front will be my living room, I'm a single guy, my 3 kids are grown and out of the house so I don't need a dining room, I have one in the house I live in now and it's just a waste of space, I eat in my living room in front of my t.v. so why waste the space. The back of my house faces the lake and I'd like to wake up looking at the lake plus there's a deck back there if I want to eat by or hang out looking at the lake then I'll just go out there through my bedroom. Every time I go down to work on it all the childhood memories of going to Aunt Roni's house for week every summer come back, I call it my happy place, I hope to be done with it by Christmas so I can move down there after the 1st of year, I retired from the military in 2010 and will hit my 15 year mark (minimum years for retirement) in November of this year and I'm going to take it and move from Missouri to Texas and enjoy my retirement.

If all goes well after my student visa (sounds weird coming from an 'old' guy) is over I hope to be able to get an immigrant worker visa and stay officially in the US. All I want in the future is to find a plot like that and build my own home (A-frame or a similar tiny home), then make a living of that using recycling materials and offering off-grid solutions (solar, rain water, etc ...). In any case, you just earned a subscriber and I am looking forward to see what you're making of it.

Hopefully you bought it to live in and not rent as an air bnb. Air bnb has crippled the upper peninsula for natives and renters thanks to greedy people trying to make fast money.

Congrats, but just to clarify you guys are solidly in troll territory, which is SOUTHERN Michigan. Northern Southern Michigan if you like but definitely not Northern.

are you from the UP?

@@NorthofNowhere. It is considered northern Michigan. It is northern lower peninsula. Upper Peninsula is a whole other place, possibly shouldn’t even be in Michigan, since it is joined by land nowhere in Michigan.😂

“Up north” could be NE or North or really any where you drive away from metro Detroit to go relax for a weekend. :-)

Wrong! I grew up in Harrisville which is Northern lower peninsula. I now live in Metro Detroit which is southern Michigan. Guessing you’re a yooper. I have family in Menominee.

Buying / building an A-frame is like marrying Britney Spears. You know you shouldn't do it, but you might do it anyway.

Buying an A frame for s rental is the only reason to own one. They are a crap use of space. Viausly very appealing but until you spend alot of time in one there great. I built a gambrel cabin. 20' wide I custom built it my self and the upstairs in that is bad enough. How ever you can still stand up and be 6' in 85% of the up stairs.

They certainly are not the best use of space, but you can make the most of it if you're intentional about it. I did almost all of the work myself on the remodel and the complexity that all of the angles add cannot be understated.

I completely disagree. A-frames are the PERFECT first/last home. They are simple to build, cheaper to build because they require less materials to build, which is a huge deal now because of deforresting and when you get alot of bad weather such as snow/ice and rain they are easier to maintain.
