Wow, I'm hooked after one episode!! I'm a retired builder/engineering designer and I see a lot of potential in this building. Even with your limited camera work I can see a flat ceiling above the first floor and no major cracks in the slab. Both good signs. Perhaps when you get some more light in there we can take a closer look. With your camera work that is. I know you didn't ask, but here is what I would do in the first 30 days. Start with a blank notebook of drawing paper and start with a basic floor and make a bunch of sketches based on what you want to do. Then hire a designer to come in and take the critical measurements of the interior of the building and draw a scaled plan of your ideas. Then take it to a local architect who is savvy to the local architectural control board, if there is one, and see if he/she thinks what they will think about your ideas. After that you can consider where to start your electrical and water and HVAC in the future. Just my 2 cents. Good luck and Greetings from Texas....John B. Remember the primary rule of big projects. The first 90% of any job takes 90% of the time. The last 10% takes the other 90% of the time. This rule also applies to estimated expenses.
@mrmrlee8 ай бұрын
That would be 180% of time🤣
@Catmoore608 ай бұрын
Exactly. Renovations/rebuilds working within an existing structure ALWAYS hit snags to be worked through. Unexpected water damage, roof hiccups, termites, faulty previous renovations…. My dad always said quadruple your estimated time to complete, and be prepared for your expenses to run 10x your original estimates. It doesn’t always cost that much, but old houses/buildings are money pits, so if you haven’t got that wherewithal when you start, best to walk away.

I enjoyed your video. I now live in London, but I lived in Johnston in 1978. I remember the building. There was a Western Auto nearby and some type of textiles factory close by as well. My brother and I used to climb the water tower, put pennies on the rail tracks, collect pecans and play in our neighbor’s barn that was full of peach collecting baskets. We lived in a 2 story house down from Main Street. A couple was going to adopt me and my brother, but we were a handful; I don’t believe they were ready for children. We were pulled out of school one afternoon by a social worker; no goodbyes, and we were gone. Not very dignified. This was the last time I lived with my brother as I would be adopted and he wouldn’t. However, I did enjoy the town as a child. I will watch your other videos. Hope you guys have a great restoration.

Two stores down below and two apartments above in one side of the building. It must’ve been a bank or a gold as a office was a walk in safe. The doors were stunning And inside were beautiful shelves and an area that was not covered by stucco and it was signed by the man who made the bank. It was beautiful and one of my favorite cafés in San Jose California was an old bank, but it had all of the amount of the bank. It had the center island for writing your deposit slips that had the marble floors that had the upstairs platform for, the boss to look down on everyone it was beautiful and it became an espresso café looking forward to seeing the completion of this project

Wow, what an adventure. I’m sure the residents will provide you with a history of the building and town. Good luck!

New to your channel, this came up in my KZbin feed probably because I've been watching old Mall videos. This is immensely cool, I'm immensely envious! I would love to tackle a project like that. We also live in Florida, having moved here from St Louis Missouri in 2001. We go back to visit at least twice a year, and try to stay off the interstate and take the back roads to sightsee. Every time we go through a small town I'll find some old abandoned building and say "we should buy that". Oh yeah, subbed. Definitely want to follow this build!

Me hoping that brick I’m seeing on those walls will be a keeper feature. I thought I was being brave, moving by myself to some place where I won’t know a soul, having just retired but…buying an entire bldg.? That’s gutsy. Can’t wait to see where you take this.

This is very exciting guys, and the plaster is a small deal. Love the doors and fireplace.

KZbin suggested this video to me, their AI knows me well! Can't wait to explore your channel and see what you do with this building. As a photographer, I look at it and think home upstairs and studio downstairs.

Well my man CONGRATS! In 1997 I bought a National Bank Bld and did a 100 point restoration. I turned it i to a cooking school and it became the little darling of the Networks. I had double vault doors. I put my soul there. Well it was no longer where the money was, so I aptly named it Torte Knox! God Bless... need some construction tips on those thick walls give me a holler
