Several years ago I met a young family who had a very shy child. They wanted to get her a pet to help her out with her shyness. So I suggested a couple of baby chicks. So they went to the feed store and talked to the clerk and came home with 3 chick's. The best thing that ever happened to that child. She still has them and they are her best friends and she loves sharing her chicken stories. Which helped her shyness around people.

They are so light they barely even notice being moved around like that. It looks really rough and mean but they literally weight a couple ounces. Its why various birds who have nests really high up have their babies chuck themselves out of nests and are fine when they land.

Here in louisiana, we have a lot of hot days with no real winter. When i put chicks in my brooder, i plug my heatlamp into the thermostat for my seed starting heat mats, and place the probe just under their substrate. Works like a charm. No guessing.

We usually turn it on at night and leave it off during the day. But when we build a barn, we’ll include a chick brooder room and consider doing something like that.

My daughter and I have had to move from our farm into another state and into the town, we miss all of our animals/family members (I was a terrible farmer, always wanting to keep everyone 😂) We miss our chickens terribly. I'll put my two cents in and say that the white peacock should be isolated. There likely is a disease or virus that he and his (sadly) deceased siblings have contracted, and he probably developed the antibodies to not be affected. It's unfortunate, but in my opinion, it is better to have one isolated peacock than a dead flock. Also, I personally do not know if you have any exotic vets nearby or if they would do a checkup on him, but if you can, I definitely recommend it. Best of luck with the peacock!
