I work in a retirement home. Winning the incubator would be a great project for the residents. We have places that will take the chicks on farms to raise. But the residents would love the whole process of hatching the eggs and seeing the chicks. This would be an activity that would enrich their lives. Thanks for the opportunity for a chance to win the incubator!

To be honest, when it gets to that point in the hatch and they are struggling to get out, you may as well try, if you do nothing they'll die anyway. I used to hatch game birds, and the hardest loses were the 'perfect' ones that died in shell. Unfortunately as with any birth, getting into the world is difficult and not all complete the journey.

The Moran eggs have more difficulty hatching because the shell's are thicker. Fewer babies hatch because of that. Watch the videos by "A Chick Called Albert" by a wonderful gentleman named Alwyn out of the Netherlands. He does riveting videos on the whole hatching process and assisting chicks in trouble. More humidity or taking a very soft paint brush and softening the membrane can also really help them. Great job Jake! So happy to see this video. Looking forward to the emu eggs hatching next!

I am very old, and have had many, many years of poultry raising experience. My personal experience has been it is never wise, no matter how expensive the egg or rare the breed to assist Mother Nature. Any time I intervened went poorly or even disastrously. Those who survived never were assets to the flock, and often were detriments. But again, that is only my perspective, and in life, often I have been wrong. lol Best of luck. Keep learning, keep the love of the farm! Ruth

Thank you for this video, it is super helpful! Also one thing I have learned is that if you take a damp paper towel and dab the white membrane that is under the shell under the thicker white membrane, it will display all the blood vessels and let you know if the baby is ready to come out or not. Many times helping a hatchling too early will cause it to bleed to death so this trick allows you to see all the blood vessels.

Gorgeous birds, they laying their entire life, approximately 8-10 years, & they are from the Westphalia region of Germany where my ancestors lived. It’s reported there are less than 1,500 of them left in Germany, so I’d like to not only raise awareness of them, but increase their chances of not becoming extinct. Thank you for your project also. I'm from Oregon. I'll have some hatchlings from the community college in a few weeks. It has been years since I last had chicks. My kids and I will enjoy tending them and hatching any future fertilized eggs. Thank you for the video with the emergency only assistance advice.

I have been raising chickens for a little while now and I have found when there is a humidity issue, I give a drop of water to the beak of the chicks to help give them that last little boost of energy. This helps while they struggle to hatch. I am in USA and actually in Missouri.

I am thinking about trying to get one. I would like to hatch turkeys, chickens and maybe some fowl. I love the way you explain all these. Thank you for the information.

Oh man. I wish I'd seen your video 10 days ago when my eggs were hatching in my homemade incubator. Only 1 hatched and 4 failed. But when I opened the failures to see what happened, they were fully formed and had a very small amount of yolksak left to absorb. So even though they were on day 25 I think I might have given up too soon. It was my first time incubating. I'm learning and excited to try again with my mixed flock of chickens here in the good ol' USA

I'd love give this same project a try with my chickens, if I got an incubator. I live in PR and ever since hurricane Maria my daughter and I have a chicken coup/coop. I started watching your videos to re-educate myself (my gramps raised chickens long ago) and it became a habit after that. We have saved up so much on eggs with these girls but they are getting up there and hatching some of their eggs would be an amazing thing, because even our rooster is very tame and big like the General. I can't wait to see how those chicks develop and what they lay. ❤

Another great video put out by you and you family. I have a mystic maran beautifully tempered rooster, he has beautiful hens that give lots of eggs. We went to purchase chicks and then thought , geeze we have a rooster and hens, why not hatch our own eggs. I have been researching Incubators and of course why not take a chance to win this one. Thanks so much, I live your videos

My husband and I bought our first home in December. We're working on getting our own homestead started and we would hatch out a "barnyard mix" of chickens from a local farmer. With love from Idaho, USA.
