We Built a Barn! How to Build a Barn from a VersaTube Kit

Do It Yourself Barn Build: This video is about how we built a beautiful, long-lasting steel barn from a VersaTube Kit. We’ve had a dream of building a little backyard farm, where we can learn to work together and become more self-reliant. But when we started pricing things, it was out of our budget. So, we decided to do it ourself - which was a big leap for us because we hadn’t ever built anything before. It took us all summer - in the Arizona heat - to do, but we did it! And we are really happy how it came together. It was a very empowering experience using our own hands and ingenuity to build something like this. We didn't have construction experience before building this barn, so if we could do it, you can too. Good luck!

Love this, we’re looking for a metal building for our horses. I’m wondering how did you find your contractor to do your site work and pour your concrete? Did you add electrical/plumbing?

Wow! We made a 30x40 garage/working area similar to this. It was all precut we just had to put it together. It was two guys and myself and trust me it was not easy we often seem like the three stooges with all the fighting and mistakes that we had. But it was done and it’s looking really good.

Does it have any drainage system? Might have been nice to build in drains in the animal areas for easy hosing-out.

You are right. After the build we wished we had done more for drainage and cleaning out of the pens.

question, how do you prevent water seepage/pentation underneath the barn support beams that are attached to the concrete? Seems to me water could easily flow underneath the metal tubes

How did you plan out your barn? Set goals based on what your needs were and the needs of your animals? That part makes sense, but what doesn't is all the additional pieces required. I'm a little fresh to building things

Hi. We made our barn 16 ft wide because that was the length of the cattle panels I was planning on using. We then had a fencing company install the doors and cattle panels.

Hows the water intrusion in the fully enclosed areas? Any water getting in under the walls or trim?

We have had no issues with water. With the steep roof life we are going to start harvesting the rain water that will flow off of it. That’s the next project. 😁
