May I suggest that you leave a window (of some sort) in the door so that you do not have a blind spot when opening the door, such as when you get a knock after dark. I would paint the window trim orange to go with the orange on the RV.

I am a stained glass artist. You can't toss any stained glass panel in the window it needs to be made with lead came and renforced to maintain it's shape. I would still put a sheet of lexan over it just to protect it from road debris and the like.

YES! My wife and I thought a stained glass window with colors that complement the outside of your RV, glass that is obscured so it gives you your privacy yet let's in light. But we thought with a chrome frame around the window which would match all the other Chrome trim. ❤️❤️ Great job on the door. We are impressed!

I would take a piece of the old door into a paint shop and have them mix exterior paint that exactly matches the off white and repaint the door. Also, get a couple of pints of paint that exactly match Clemmie’s racing stripes and paint those in. Paint works wonders. The interior of the door looks fine in wood stain.

Looks great, but unfortunately I have my doubts as to the durability of the contact adhesive... Car companies use it to hold fabrics and trims in place for sure, but not panelwork. I would have gone with some form of Panel bond that comes in a caulking gun cartridge for that job...

I'm with others. Your gonna look in the sideview mirror and see it sail away! Suggestion from an old timer. Go ahead and countersink some short SS screws and plug the holes and seal them over. If you do it as meticulously as you have everything else, it will still look great and won't leak! Good Luck!
@keithstamper3648

Really nice job. However the contact adhesive will not hold up over time. Also, anyone wanting to enter your camper can easily pry the panels off with a screw driver. I would drill and contersink screws into the wood then fit wooden plugs. Once sanded smooth it will be fine and very strong.

The door is awesome, but I get why you're a bit dubious if it sticks out too much, in comparison to the rest of the RV. Top tip; If you use the existing stripes that are on the body of the RV, you can continue them onto the door itself, except you wouldn't use the RV colours of red and yellow necessarily. You could use a dark wood stain to continue the stripes, or maybe some aged metal effect that matches the stripe pattern, but also compliments the door itself. Either way, by continuing the stripes effect in what way you choose, you will blend the door in a bit better.

Also for the window, what about having a faux stained glass picture of Clementine or the new car painted on it? Or have a stained glass artist make one. Or - make a captains "window" with a wood design like your sunburst? Maybe set it up so it can open and close - for more ventilation and it can double as a window pass through - most new RV's have a pass though in the screen door but having one in the wood door sounds fabulous!. I love all your fun ideas.

To avoid screws showing in the face of the wood you could have used a modern automotive panel bond adhesive rather than contact cement. Panel bond is now used to attach body panels to vehicles and is super strong. Once dried if you ever tried to remove the wood it would likely be destroyed before it came loose. So a pretty permanent adhesive.

The window can be painted or modified to look better, so that's no big deal. Maybe you can find some imitation cedar or wood laminate to cover the door frame. The bottom line is that you did a good job building a solid frame with good bones it can be redone or changed whenever you want. It's as good a first attempt as any. When you get your next YT check you should seriously reconsider getting Clementine a nice power canopy. Maybe you don't like the aesthetics but if you mount it across the roof line it won't look bad & being able to lounge outside protected from the rain & sun is worth it. Clementine looks under-dressed without one. They're standard equipment on every classy RV.

I give you guys credit. You always go for it. No matter how big it is. You DYI as much as possible. That's sweat equity and experience you can't get. Such life lessons and you have a partner that has your back. Bravo!! 👊😎

The door looks solid and nice. I do have to say, I do agree, the yellow around would look good matching the orange-yellow stripes. Other than that it's amazing how you built a door from scratch. I've never seen that done. It gives hope to all the DIYers out there.
