Thats dissapointing about the drink tray. I was hoping you could actually serve drinks on it. But it looks like trash. The Droid Depot is supposed to be chaotic though. Kind of how I imagined it would be from the movies. I think they did good with the atmosphere for both Savi's and the depot. Lightsaber building should be mysterious and cerimonial while building a droid should be like an insane flea market with parts everywhere.

Just a heads up, the droids don't actually interact with each other. They do interact in the park due to frequencies being sent out in certain areas, and the separate frequencies are staggered to make it seem like they are talking to each other. Personality chips will make them behave differently depending on what section of the park you are in as well, like the Resistance chip will make the droid sound nervous in the First Order area while it will be excited in the Resistance area and vice versa. Just wanted to put the info out there so you don't buy multiple droids thinking they will talk to each other at home when they will not.
@warknox11235 жыл бұрын
My wife's BB unit and my R unit respond to each other at home. I would not call it full on talking, but when sitting next to each other they do alternately make their talking noises without controller input. I am not sure where people keep getting the info that they do not respond to each other outside of GE.

The Dan-O Channel did a livestream where he tested it out with his two droids at home. When it comes to stuff like that, cast members are only friendly and helpful for a few minutes After the attraction opens and only for a few guests. After like the 10th guest their attitudes change and their patience go out the door, why? Because they have to service several hundred to thousand guests, all of which ask the same questions and often times multiple times because they either don't pay attention or its too loud. You have better luck getting excellent customer service from a Gamestop Employee.

When he started putting it together, I immediately thought, "Oh it all just snaps together? That's pretty lame." But then he had to use the screwdriver to attach it, which is a nice touch. Actually gives the sense you're actually assembling it. For 100 bucks, it seems like a decent experience, considering it would probably cost the same amount of money or more to buy a toy droid outside of the park. The remote did indeed look incredibly toyish, but thats probably because it needs to be simple enough for kids to use. Having all the pieces just go by on the conveyor was probably my favorite part, though.

I kinda liked the contrast between the two building experiences. To me it was like how in Star Wars almost anybody can have a droid, so the building process is more chaotic and crowded and I guess “public”. But building the lightsaber is more personal and private, it’s hidden in a corner already and in Star Wars not just anybody can go build a lightsaber. It captured the difference between the general Star Wars public and the Force Sensitive orders if that makes sense

I think your video and review mirrors my experience almost exactly. The custom saber build was literally "an experience." The cast members did a great job of acting, they were incredibly helpful with questions and instructions. The entire process was fun and very Disney-like. The droid build on the other hand, was a free for all. Even though an appointment was required at the time (I think they are now taking walk-ins), the cast members were either absent, distracted, or in such a hurry that they may have not even been there. It lead to increased build times (and therefore increased wait times) and people just helping each other out. It's already a slow process when you're inundated with choices/colors/parts and then to have to figure all the steps on your own was overwhelming for some. During my experience, the CMs didn't even point out the screwdrivers and so people were incredibly confused about how to get the arms to stay put. Thankfully, I'd watched a KZbin video in advance and knew what to expect. Lastly, a lot of the parts were somewhat ill-fitting, especially the two chest pieces. It took me a while to find a matching set that didn't have one or both popping outward instead of resting flat. The droid itself is totally worth $99 to me. I would skip on the personality chip; the original sounds are more to my liking than any of the chips, but that's a totally subjective thing. They are fun and exactly the kind of little robot I always wanted when I was a kid.

@KurNorock4 жыл бұрын
You must not have done RC for a very long time. These days you can have thousands of RC cars and planes going at the same time. The number is virtually limitless because each transmitter and receiver are bound by a signature, or code, transmitted within the frequency. So even if there is another car sharing the same frequency, it doesn't matter because it doesn't have the same binding code.

You guys are such a cute couple. I am a native Floridian that lives in North Carolina now and I miss Disney so much. We go back every year. But I am so excited for Galaxy’s Edge thanks to Peter you look so excited and happy to give people the info they need.

Honestly I would totally buy one of these and I’m not even a Star Wars nerd. I just remember in 2nd grade more than anything I wanted the red R2 droid obiwan had and asked Santa for it all year but I could never find anything bigger than a small action figure, damn I wish I could’ve grown up 10 years later

I have watched numerous build-a-droid videos and this one sticks out. You really take your time finding the right parts. That R3-unit looks gorgeous.

Tell me about it! My ex and I tried for a second child and ended up with triplets. And though I love them dearly, I probably could have afforded that life sized R-2 unit by now.

I think it's worth it just for the experience of letting you inner child out for a bit alone! The fact that you get a pretty cool toy to display is cool too though!! lol

We got early access to Galaxy Edge in florida, we bought the droid and we were really disappointed. It's cool but once you leave Galaxys edge it doesnt really beeps or talk. I would love to have it bluetooth to my phone and an App so we can control it with our phones and if they do it, maybe a translator too.

Literally I want an all black Droid. When you said "I wish there was green" I feel the same way. But I like the look of black droids too

I like mine, those tiny wheels have a hell of a time getting anywhere on anything but a perfect surface, but it was fun. I did a black and orange R2 style unit. Glad I came to disney land in late august there were no significant lines anywhere. Checked out the sabers too but didn't buy one as I have much higher quality VV and saberforge stuff at home

Now I’ve got a life size Bb-8 that follows voice commands and can follow you. It was from Walmart on clearance for $100. Aside from the customization options, it’s better than the bb units you can get here in every way

I'm glad you bought the stickers to show how they look. I was a bit underwhelmed by the color choices of the bodies and legs, but the stickers provide a wider variety. The green against the black is a nice stark contrast.

$99 is actually pretty good for the small custom units for what they are, but for $25,000 for the life-size one you can basically build your own from scratch three or four times over. The reason why the turnkey life-size unit is so expensive is because they're custom milled from billet aluminum parts for a high level of detail and use proprietary electronics that have an R&D markup on them, while if you make one yourself you can use cheaper, easier to cut materials and easily available off-the-shelf gearmotors and electronics. A bare-bones wood-framed polyethylene covered build with hacked drill motors for drive and dome control, a flat original trilogy R5-style dome, some Pololu 25A ESCs (you'll need one for each motor), a cheap hobbyking radio system some Turnigy batteries and some cheap wheels from Harbor Freight would probably run you at most a few hundred. Detail work can be done on a 3D printer. Sound and light control isn't much of an upcharge, you can implement that with an Arduino, an SD card shield, a speaker and some LEDs. You'd have to program it yourself, though. As to why the small ones are a good deal, it's due to high-volume production. The life-size ones are built to order while the small toy-grade units are mass-produced in the hundreds of thousands.
