Hey everyone back with Railroads Online! Today Hyce and I are going to build a hump yard in Railroads Online! I don't really know what a hump yard is but we're going to find out and setup one for humping our empty trains!

@@_some__guy_ I think it is that the switches are still how the original tracks were, and with the spline update they don't always work with the new rail laying tool. I have a switch at the bottom of a hill that joins two gravity lines into a flat, and every once in a while, I have to delete and replace the whole line set because it acts like there is something on the track that derails everything, or just makes it bounce backwards. I have raised that switch and section of track up like 3ft to try and fix the issue, and so far, it seems to be working better.

Garratt locomotives are articulated engines that are essentially two locomotives coupled by a single boiler+cab. My research didn't turn up any used in North America, mostly used in Brazil, South Africa, Australia, and Europe. They are identified by a + sign between the wheelsets, for example a 4-4-2+2-4-4 would be a Garratt type Double Atlantic

The way I’ve described them in past is that they’re like a single locomotive coupled between a tender and a tank with driven Jacobs bogeys

There is also the 4-8-2+2-8-4 monster locos of the Garratt class. Sometimes referred to as the double mountains, there's the carcass one near Hampton downs in New Zealand. The actual loco is the South African Class 4083 Beyer Garratt.

So what Hyce is doing is he's bringing it to public knowledge that there is such thing as a professional humper that humps all day long; and that sentence contextually is not inappropriate and has every right to remain in every public forum. Also, Hyce is also getting the younger generation to answer on those "What do you want to be when you grow up" questionnaires to answer "Best Humper this side of the Mississippi." And it'll be the teachers who get in trouble for trying to admonish them.

The Garratt articulated steam locomotive was built as a 4-6-2-2-6-4 with each of the sets of 6 being the driven wheels. These locomotives, sometimes referred to as beyer garratt’s could easily negotiate tight turns and put out lots of power.

The Great Locomotive chase was a Serious but very silly chase between two sets of spies running between North and South controlled Rails. And I mean some really silly hood winks like running the locomotives through tunnels but only one going through and the other having hood winked the other in the tunnel doubling back the other way. there was a lot of silly stories involving the event which is believed to have made General Burnside or Sherman (can't remember which union general off the top of my head) To rip up the rails through his tyraid through the south.

There are two movie versions of the Great Locomotive Chase, the Buster Keaton movie called "The General" which was a silent comedy about the engineer of the Western & Atlantic Railroad (W&ARR, now part of CSX) #3, "General"...and his love for the daughter of Robert E. Lee (something made up entirely for the film). Later, the Walt Disney Company did another adaptation focusing more on the Union Spies that stole the General, Andrew's Raiders, with the Conductor of the General, William Fuller, taking the role of an antagonist (but not villain, this was a time when nuance was allowed in depictions of the American Civil War) pursuing them. There is also a concert band piece inspired by the incident that you can find a performance of on KZbin entitled "The Great Locomotive Chase". Also know that, before it closed, the Texas Amusement Park, AstroWorld, had a small reproduction of the engine, The General, which my father used to be the Conductor for before he joined the US Air Force. Still have his hat somewhere. The incident itself involves the Union Spies, Andrew's Raiders, sneaking into the South to steal a train, with the intent of sabotaging and destroying the W&ARR, which was serving to ferry war supplies to the front (as well as continuing passenger and freight services). They stole the General during a routine stop for breakfast for crew and passengers near the town of Big Shanty (Now Kennesaw), Georgia, taking the train north. Conductor Fuller gave chase, initially on a hand car, but with the lead, the Raiders could occasionally stop, remove rails, and cut telegraph lines. Eventually, Fuller got to another engine, but it was derailed eventually due to sabotage. He got a faster engine, again derailed. Finally, he got the last train he'd use, the "Texas", which he had to run in reverse to try to catch his stolen train. The Raiders attempted to burn a couple bridges, but largely failed, finally caught just a few miles short of their destination, Chattanooga, as the General was out of fuel (she was a wood burner at the time, not sure if they changed it later). They were tried and found guilty of espionage, a number were executed before some escaped or were ransomed. Six of the Raiders were actually the first to receive the then-new United States Medal of Honor. So, suppose if someone wants something else to bash the US on, the highest military award was initially awarded for what could arguably be called domestic terrorism...

@valitain782
@valitain782 Жыл бұрын
I think. the gradient is different because in circle mode the gradient selected is what the end of the spline your placing will be and the length of track determines how long it takes to get there where as normal mode the gradient is set within a short distance and the rest is the grade selected. Hope this helps.

I bought this game a few episodes into this series and especially early on it has helped me figure out what to do and how to start out. Because I am not limited to 2 hours or so every few days of playing, eventually I progressed further than you, as expected. Just today I finally delivered a proper full train of oil barrels. And I know you have no rush getting to that point, it does feel good making just over 21K on a single train with 12 cars of oil barrels. I also made a good 20K delivering all the material to produce that many barrels in the first place. It was a very fun journey getting here so thank you and Hyce for making this series and bringing my attention to this game.

@Hyce - Andrews Raid. Look it up. Happened during the War of Northern Aggression. The Andrews Raid was a bunch of Northerns who snuck in and stole a locomotive (and some boxcars IIRC) to try to tear up track, burn bridges, etc. to cut the South's ability to ship by rail. They eventually were all caught and killed for being spies IIRC. (Getting old sucks, IIRC.) And Buster Keaton did the movie, with lots of artistic license of course. And the actual General has survived. It's in Atlanta now IIRC. It was up here at Spencer for a while.

@panzerjagertigerporsche
@panzerjagertigerporsche Жыл бұрын
The Great Train Chase of 1862 was an event where Northern spies stole a Southerner train named The General and a 3 box cars to transport troops to Northern lines. So the Southerners didn't realize anything was wrong at first until the actual crew of The General returned to find their train missing, so the driver and fireman went to a Confederate officer, got a small battalion of Confederate soldiers who then took a train engine named the Texas, which was backwards, and started chasing The General in reverse with about 12 men on the train itself until they came across torn up track that the Northern spies had sabotaged, the Confederates then left the Texas, went to a nearby station down the line and confiscated another steam loco that was facing in the same direction as The General and started chasing again. The Confederates finally started catching up to The General, so the Northerners started setting fire to the boxcars they had and releasing them every couple of miles to slow down the Confederates. Finally after a couple of hours, The General ran out of wood or coal, so the Northerners jumped off it and scattered, leaving the Confederates to find The General abandoned on the track. I can't remember exactly but either The General or Texas actually made it into preservation, but there were two places that were fighting over who gets to keep it. A town and some railroad corporation in which the locomotive ran on.

aww, the janky slope math shenanigan got cut out the reason (i believe) the slope did that is because it tries to make a smooth spline in the Z axis as well along the length of the spline since the bottom was only about 2m, it applied the slope to the short piece, making the top point greater than 10 degrees the longer 'middle' piece then tries to smooth it back to 10, which created the "wtf" bump

The "geniuses" at GE are morons. Yes if you use Higher Horse Power traction motors you can get the Same Horses as 6 but you don't have the same wear out or stress vectors. Yeah it's the same Horse power and Theoretical torque but because it's on 4 instead of 6 axles they reduce the effective tractive effort of what the locomotive can do. it also adds more wear to the motors over time then with 6.
