If I would’ve only seen your videos sooner, as I just discovered y’all and grateful for that. I would’ve suggested sanding, both sides of the thicker part that wouldn’t go or fit in the accordion. That’s what I would’ve suggested is to sand on both sides of the thicker one to make it smaller and it would’ve just grabbed on but you guys figured it out .

Also the other thing you should have done because you remove some of the structural elements of the box and the cab would have been to reinforce the opening on both sides with quarter inch aluminum bar as part of your door frame. But in general you guys did a pretty good job trying to figure it out. For you guys working out your bugs on camera allowed other people to take what you did and modify it for their needs. Way to go. keep on building

You had a much better alternative. The gasket didn't fit the thicker portion. You could have easily obtained some thinner strips of metal and screwed them on around the pass through leaving just a half inch sticking out to fit the spring locks on

Kinda late to the party but I cut 2 matching 1/4" plywood that looks like a gasket. I used marine grade epoxy to seal the plywood. And bolted it to the inside box and inside cab and the accordion went right over and locked into place.

@arthurcooper4 жыл бұрын
So strange for me to watch... I bought a 17 foot u-haul around 2 months ago and I did the exact same thing you guys did. It even looks like we ordered the same accordion rubber and ran into the same problem on the box side with the thickness. This video came 8 weeks too late for me lol. I took out the middle seat entirely and then cut off the supports which let me make my door a little wider, but otherwise almost identical. Anyway, I highly recommend keeping the piece you cut out of the box -- made for a solid door with some re-working. Also, some automotive carpet and soundproofing on the exposed fiberglass in the cab has vastly improved driving in a noisy old u-haul. Good luck guys.
@project_today4 жыл бұрын
Wow that's insane! What a crazy coincidence... we were looking everywhere for some tips and advice for the passthrough, wish we could have given you a call! Haha do you like the Uhaul still???

@@project_today yeah, the box truck thing is still relatively uncommon, but I think it's a great choice. I'm still working on my build, but the square walls make building inside pretty straight forward. I just finished putting in a bunch of nice used cabinets from habitat for humanity I just mounted them on the wall. No advanced carpentry skills needed.

@project_today4 жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely! Ask away! We tried for a long time to unscrew the seat base, but eventually found out that we only needed to unscrew the seat itself from the metal holding it up. That method is far easier than unscrewing the base
@kristinab99654 жыл бұрын

@@project_today did you happen to get an accurate measurement on the distance between the front of the box and the back of the fiberglass cap on the back of the cab?
@bohicasnafufubar Жыл бұрын
I think you'd have been better off putting in a minivan seat for your folding seat. It would have been structurally designed and safer than your modified hinge system. Another way you could have approached the seat was take the seat to a fabricator and have them build a hinge system that can take a hard hit and not fold up like a deck of cards.

NO WAY!!! Another 2006 Uhaul!!! That’s awesome! And of course we can share that info... the truck walls were a little less than 1”! And the cab walls were very thin, probably closer to 1/4”. But we made all these cuts a while ago, so please don’t be upset if they’re wrong!
